Chapter 34 Thirty-Four
"What should we do?" Danica asked, looking at Mason, who was having trouble controlling his temper. "We have to help her."
"Let me think for a minute," Mason said, keeping his eyes fixed on the wolves in front of them.
"Alpha, better hurry up; they're starting to move in," Chris warned.
"There isn't any time!" Danica snarled, beginning to move forward.
She didn't bother looking to see if Mason and Chris were following as she barreled forward, drawing the deranged wolves attention to her. She didn't have a plan in place for what she was doing, but she would just figure it out as she went.
"HEY!" She called, drawing the ones that hadn't turned her away from the woman.
"DANICA!" Mason roared, making his way toward her.
Danica had been so concerned with saving the woman that she hadn't considered exactly what danger she had just put herself in, not to mention not stopping to wonder why exactly a woman would be standing in the middle of a field in the middle of the night right off of packlands to begin with.
Turning, the woman flashed Danica a broad smile and revealed her glowing red eyes.
"BRING HER TO ME!" She ordered the pack of deranged wolves, who were almost on top of Danica.
Feeling her heart quicken, Danica fixed her stance so she was ready for battle instead of standing defenseless as the wolves began to jump on her. Using her hands, she grabbed one and threw it off of her just as it snapped at her face. Too distracted by that one, she didn't have enough time to stop the two wolves that had clamped down on her arms so they could begin dragging her towards the female rogue.
"Let go!" Danica growled, thrashing.
Mason and Chris, who had tried to come help were now busy fighting off the other deranged wolves that had decided to hold them back.
"What good children you are!" The female rogue cooed as the two wolves delivered Danica to her.
"What the hell do you want?" Danica asked as the female rogue knelt down to look at her.
"I just wanted to get a look at the Cove pack's soon-to-be Luna," the female rogue laughed, grabbing Danica by her hair and lifting.
Grabbing ahold of the rogue's hands, Danica tried to claw herself free as she felt her feet begin to lift off the ground.
"LET HER GO!" She heard Mason yell from wherever he was fighting with his deranged pack members.
"Oh, look, your little alpha is trying to save you," the female rogue laughed. "Too bad he won't have that opportunity."
Opening her mouth, the female rogue allowed her canines to begin to grow until they potruded out of her mouth. Giving a sinister growl, she moved her head forward, clamping down on Danica's shoulder.
Letting out a scream, Danica could feel her consciousness beginning to fade once more as the dark being began to wake, and she seemed to be pissed.
Pushing hard, she took full control instantly, reaching out and wrapping a hand around the woman's throat and squeezing, forcing the woman to let go.
"What is this?" The female rogue garbled, her eyes flashing.
The dark being let out a laugh as she snapped the female rogue's wrist, instantly freeing herself, before squaring off with the woman, who looked shocked.
"What the hell are you?" She demanded, narrowing her eyes at the being.
"Someone you shouldn't have messed with," the being said sweetly, lunging forward and sinking her teeth into the female rogue's throat.
"LET GO!" She wailed as the being bit down hard, ripping through her skin.
Letting go, she watched with delight as the female rogue fell to the ground, grabbing her neck to try to stop the blood that was freely flowing. A shiver of pleasure at watching her prey die ran through the being as her bloodlust grew. Turning, she attempted to find her next victim as Danica watched on, unable to do a thing to stop her.
Moving forward, she being headed to the two deranged wolves that had captured Danica and taken her to the female rogue, ready to rip them to shreds.
"DANICA NO!" Mason called. He had managed to knock out the wolves that were holding him back and was running towards her. "THEY ARE OUR PACK MATES; DON'T HURT THEM!"
"Not my pack," the being growled with Danica's voice, sending a shiver through Danica.
"Chris, help me!" Mason yelled to his beta, who had also subdued his opponents. "IF WE DON'T STOP HER, SHE IS GOING TO DO SOMETHING SHE REGRETS!"
Nodding Chris surged forward, grabbing hold of Danica from behind. Laughing, the being easily broke Chris' grip on her, freeing herself and turning around.
"Don't get in my way," the being growled. "Otherwise, I will kill you as well."
"You'll have to kill me then," Chris said, moving forward to try to grab Danica again.
Grabbing ahold of Chris, Danica heaved and threw him to the side as she continued to move forward.
"Danica, you have to fight it," Mason begged as he reached out and grabbed Danica's cheeks. "Don't let this thing consume you."
"Let go," the being growled as Mason's warmth began affecting it and Danica. "They must pay for hurting me."
"Stop..." Mason said, leaning forward and placing his lips on Danica's.
A surge of electricity and warmth raced from his lips and into Danica's body, starting from her head and traveling all the way to her toes.
She could feel the being slipping as the electricity continued to surge until finally it shrank away into slumber once more, allowing Danica to have control once again.
Pulling away, she locked her eyes with Mason's. "Thank you." She whispered just as pain engulfed her from where the female rogue had bitten her.
So distracted by stopping the dark Danica from doing something she would regret Mason and Chris had failed to notice the deep bite mark marring Danica's shoulder. Blood had already soaked half of her shirt and was still flowing freely.
"Chris, go get backup to help you return these wolves to their confinement." Mason ordered, scooping Danica into his arms and cradling her against his chest. "I'm taking her to get this wound treated."
Nodding Chris began to run towards the training grounds as Mason began running behind him.
So lost in pain, Danica allowed herself to begin to drift.
