Chapter 29 Twenty-Nine
It was midday by the time Danica found herself breaking from all her swirling thoughts. It was the day of the full moon, and she was well aware of what was to come later. As so much had gone on recently, she had no time to truly consider the pain that she was going to have to go through once again.
Now that the time was here, it was all she could think of. Top that with a possible war breaking out, all the rogue attacks, and the outbreak, and she had a mess inside her head.
They had still not fully determined what Mason's infected pack members were carrying, but instead of getting better, they all seemed to be worsening. On top of that, even more pack members had begun to show signs of having the illness as well. Where originally the abandoned building had only held about ten deranged wolves, it now housed up to thirty.
Mason had spent most of the morning making phone calls and doing paperwork, allowing Danica to be by herself. She had tried to pay attention to everything that he had going on, but in the end it had become a bit too much, and she had turned to all her own worries.
Despite her promise to herself that she would strengthen up for both Mason and the pact, she still found herself falling short. The first sign of something serious was that Danica had completely shut down. What kind of Luna was that? One thing was for sure: it wasn't the type of Luna that should be running a pack.
Laughing mockingly at herself, Danica attempted to clear her mind. She had all the time in the world to wallow in self-loathing, but at the moment she needed to mentally prepare for her change, or rather, her nonchange.
Earlier in the day, she had begun to feel the same signs of illness. Her body had begun to ache, followed by her head, then the cold sweats and chills. Now, as she lay on Mason's bed, staring up at the roof, she could feel a splitting headache starting.
"How are you feeling over there?" Mason's soothing voice came through Danica's pain-filled consciousness. "Sorry to have kept you waiting."
"Been better," Danica muttered, pinching the bridge of her nose.
"Do you want to go ahead and take the medicine that Ash made for you?"
Danica could hear the sound of a chair scraping against the floor as Mason got up from his seat and began making his way over to her.
"Not right now," Danica responded.
"Don't be stubborn," Mason sighed, appearing above Danica.
"But if I were to take it now, would there be any left when the time for change came?" Danica asked, squeezing her eyes shut as a stab of pain shot through her head.
As the minutes passed, the headache became worse. She couldn't quite remember if it was this painful the last time, but she knew that it was already starting to become unbearable.
"There is plenty for now and then," Mason said, sitting down beside Danica. "You don't have to sit here and endure all by yourself."
"It really isn't that bad," Danica lied as another stab overtook her. "This is nothing compared to the change itself."
Danica could hear Mason huffing beside her and immediately found herself picturing exactly what his face looked like at that moment. It was probably pouty, and his eyes were probably darkening, and...
Something warm suddenly touched her lips with feather-soft quickness, followed by another touch, but this time she could make out Mason's lips.
As they pressed harder against hers, she could feel her body and heart responding to him instantly. Her mouth opened, allowing him better access, and her arms reached up and around his neck. The actions were so against what Danica herself thought that it made her picture herself as someone entirely different.
"Mason," Danica murmured against his lips as the kiss deepened once more. "We shouldn't..."
One thing was absolutely certain in that moment: every bit of pain or suffering she felt flew out the window instantly. The comfort and warmth she was receiving from her mate was like the best drug in the world.
Everything around her slipped away, and all she could focus on was the essence of the man who was kissing her.
The longer she allowed it to go on, the more intense it began to become. First, it was the simple feeling of her sliding further up the bed as pressure began to form above her body. Then there was a warm heaviness as tingles began running across her skin. It was only when those warm tingles ventured towards her breast that she began to regain consciousness and grasp what was going on.
Although the feeling wasn't unpleasant and every fiber of her being was screaming at her to allow it to go forward, her mind was screaming no. Her traitorous body, however, continued to urge Mason forward, allowing his hand to softly caress and cup her flesh.
A moan escaped her as his hand began to gently start kneading. The sensation was completely foreign and wonderful to Danica.
Pushing his body closer to hers allowed Danica to feel the hardness of him against her thigh as his gentle kneading began to pick up intensity.
"Mason," Danica huffed, pulling her mouth away and turning her head. Her breath was coming out embarrassingly rough. "We can't..."
Lost in lust Mason didn't seem to hear her words at all as his mouth found her neck. He began to kiss and nip at it, starting with her jaw and working down to her collarbone. As he hit one particular place on her neck, she could feel pleasurable tingles shoot through her entire body.
What exactly was that? She found herself wondering as Mason traveled past it for a moment, only to come back to it. As he placed his mouth against it again, the tingles shot through Danica, making her core throb with anticipation.
"Mas..." She tried to huff as she felt a sharp tooth lightly graze her skin. "Wha..."
She was trying her best to comprehend exactly what was going on, but the feel of Mason and the sensations he was giving her were intense. If she didn't do something soon, then things would escalate to a point she didn't want, and she wasn't entirely sure she was ready for that.
Opening her mouth to speak, she felt a sharp pierce as pleasure exploded throughout her entire being. Whatever Mason had just done had sent her into a frenzy that she had never experienced before, and her whole world was fading.
