Chapter 57 Suspicion

Chapter 57 Suspicion
Christian’s Point of View

My father usually isn’t bothered about what I do or what happens to me, partly because he knows I could take care of myself, and also maybe because he expects nothing from me.

I was the useless son who solely depended on his wealthy father for everything.

Just like my mother, he is obsessed with Xavier. He is always trying to get my brother to notice him, always desperate to be part of his life, even though Xavier has rejected him countless times.

It used to bother me a lot how I became invisible to my own parents, and how everything was taken away from me, ever since that green-eyed bastard came into our lives, wet, cold, and miserable with his mother.

But the older I became, the more used to it I got, and eventually, I stopped complaining, stopped craving for attention or validation.

I stopped desperately trying to look good for both mother and father…so I just became the black sheep of the family.

The one who always causes trouble.

But one thing remained constant in all those years, and that was my strong hatred for Xavier.

I drummed my hands on the edge of the car door, trying to piece together why my father was calling me out of the blue.

It can’t be that he misses me? A small laugh escaped me, as if.

The car stopped, and I got out of the car, even before the chauffeur could get out. I met with some of Father’s security teams at the edge of the building, and they followed me inside, escorting me in.

Father was on a table, partly covered with untouched food, and the wine glass in front of him was half filled with clear liquid…probably champagne? He was speaking to his assistant, the one who was stiff and hardly spoke.

“Good evening, father.” I pulled back one of the chairs, and his grey eyes lifted slightly, glancing at me from over his glasses. “Is this a date?”

“Christian, I’m surprised you came out without causing any trouble for me.” He handed her the iPad and dismissed her. She took about three steps from the table, maintaining her position, like a bodyguard.

“You didn’t give me a choice,” I muttered as I grabbed the bottle of wine. Without even bothering to reach for a cup, I fixed the whole bottle to my mouth, and Father grimaced. “So, what are we talking about?”

“Can you behave yourself even for one second?” He asked in disappointment.

“Well, you should expect this much from me.”

“You must be wondering why I called you here—” I interrupted him almost immediately.

“If you’re trying to get me to talk to Xavier for you, I’m going to barf.” I dropped the bottle on the table, I picked up a fork, and stabbed cleanly through the steak. “Hmm… this is so good. The chef deserves a raise.”

“Where were you yesterday?” He asked suddenly, and I stopped chewing for a minute, my eyes met his, and I noticed the seriousness overlapping the irritation in them.
“Since when have you been interested in my movement?” I wondered, forcing myself to swallow.

“I saw you checked into the hotel,” he continued, and he snapped his fingers; his personal assistant stepped forward again, holding a file in her hands. “And you checked in with a boy in your school.”

My heart skipped a beat in my chest.

“And, so what?” I cocked my head to the side. “What if I go somewhere with my friend?”

“And that somewhere is a hotel?” He asked curiously. “You spent time in the penthouse and bought so many things.”

“We were playing video games.” I retorted sharply, and he cocked his head to the side. Meanwhile, I tried to remain as calm as possible.

Lana was right, taking her to a hotel, especially one that my father owns, is very risky.

“You didn’t have friends.” He drawled again.

“Lucky for me, I made some.”

He picked up the glass of wine and took a small sip, moving the drink in his mouth, as if he was trying to savor the taste.

“And the money?” He raised a brow. “You spent thirteen million over the night.”

I smirked.
“Are you getting broke?” I asked curiously. “Since when do you care about how much money I spend?”

“I was bored, and my friend needed my help, so I paid his debt off,” I explained, leaning back in the chair, my eyes studying my father’s reaction; his face remained unexpressive by the way. “I can’t believe there would be a day you would call me in here for just thirteen million, that a price of one of the bags in mom’s collection.”

He sucked in a deep breath.
“You know if you’re gay, you can talk to me.” He said, and the corner of my lips raised into a small smirk. “I was thinking about the reason you suddenly broke up with Veronica… and now, I think I know why.”

“I’m not gay,” I repeated. “Just because I’m a little too close to someone doesn’t make me gay. Xavier stays in a dorm room with two other boys. Does that make him gay?”
I moved my chair, standing up.
“Things between Veronica and me didn’t work out because she cheated on me,” I answered. “And she is not my type.”

“Do you realize that you can’t just break off your relationship with her?” He asked curiously. “She is not just another relationship; this is supposed to be a political engagement, between her family and ours.”

He confessed, and now I understand why my mother wanted me to get with her desperately.

“To secure your future, she comes from a long lineage of pure blood in the royal family.” He expressed firmly, his eyes not once leaving mine. “This might be the last time I will help you. So, whatever misunderstandings and differences you have, you'd better straighten them out.”

“Since she is so perfect, why not allow your perfect son to be engaged to her?” I asked curiously.

“I would have done that if I could, but Veronica especially wants you.” He confessed. “You know how much she likes you.”
“No, father,” I confessed. “It’s over between Veronica and me.”
