Chapter 71 Hearts of vemon
Isla’s POV.
Panic rippled through my chest as my phone buzzed violently beside my bed.
The day was just beginning.
My eyes flared open as I gripped the blanket on me, knuckles almost turning white.
“What the hell!” I said, swinging my legs forcefully on the mattress.
My eyes were still covered from sleep, my body felt so numb.
I had cried my eyes out last night and didn’t know how I fell asleep.
Who was blowing up my phone so early?
My hand reached for it.
A chill ran through my bones as I tapped on it.
“What the heck? Are you really….”
Another buzz came in. It was Josie.
“Hey?” I said, rubbing my sleepy eyes.
“Have you seen the news?” Her voice was trembling.
“What news? Oh… it just popped up on my feed. I haven’t read it.”
“Why do you sound like the world is coming to an end? It’s just normal news…”
“This is far from normal, sis. I suggest you read it yourself.”
“Okay okay, can you stop panicking. I’ll get back to you.”
The phone went dead.
Why’s she acting weird, it’s not like this is the first time.
There was always news about me on the internet. It's not a new thing.
My name was always in people’s mouth.
I tapped on the feed, my stomach dropped.
“Ohh, my goodness! This is surely a big one. Did they really?”
Shot out of bed.
News: Isla Romano, wife of Dante Romano caught with her husband’s brother acting intimately.
“Ooh, God. There’s never a moment of peace in my life.”
I rushed to the bathroom to get ready for the fire that would happen today.
After almost an hour of pounding in my thoughts and taking my bath, I finally headed downstairs.
The moment I opened the door, all eyes were on me.
Servants didn’t stop looking, some whispered, while some twisted their mouths soundlessly.
I almost wished for the ground to open and swallow me whole.
If their eyes were real knives, I would’ve been pierced into a thousand pieces.
A notification popped on my phone, I tapped on it.
Dante: meet me in the car, now.
Hmmm. Here comes the devil himself.
This would be a really big topic today, my enemies finally had their chance.
When I got to the car, he was already seated inside, waiting for me.
My hand found the door handle and I stepped inside.
His eyes followed me inside, it didn’t flicker for even a second.
What was he up to?
“You saw the news.” He said, reaching for my hands.
“Yes,” I hissed.
My hand pushed his hand away as I adjusted for balance.
“You created the problem. You’re supposed to solve them.”
A smile tugged at his face. “That means you’re officially mine, Isla.”
“Yours in body, not at heart, Dante.”
The look on his face turned pale. “You still won’t look at me, honey.”
“When I look at you, I feel disgusted.”
“You must really hate me so much then. But I like it when you hate me. Because you don’t get to resist me.”
“Dream on,” I turned my face to the other side.
“Mmm, mmm,” his driver coughed slightly.
“Stop acting stupid and drive. Birds of the same feather.” I said, voice cold.
“Looks like you want to get to the company on foot,” Dante interrupted.
When we got to the company, I couldn’t believe my eyes.
So many reporters stood at the entrance with cameras as guards tried to keep them in check.
“What in the name of goodness is this?” I said, as we stopped half way.
“Take the private entrance,” Dante said to the driver.
The car turned toward the entrance, reporters who noticed what happened, tried to bypass, but were stopped.
“Oh my god,” I whispered to myself.
His assistant stood at the elevator entrance when we arrived.
“Sir,” he said as we walked inside.
“What’s the situation inside?” He asked, as he gripped his hand on mine.
“The board is calling for an emergency meeting. They’re so furious.”
“Hmm,” he snorted. “Why are they being impatient already?”
All eyes were on me as we walked toward the boardroom, his hand on mine.
Who knows how they might’ve ripped me apart in their hearts.
The board members were already seated, some argued, some sat quietly, some gritted their teeth.
Their eyes flickered to us as the door opened.
“What is she doing here?” A board member said, pointing at me.
Dante didn’t say anything, his cold stare alone said it all.
“You saw the news,” Mr. Rossi, one of the eldest of them all said as he cleared his throat.
“If I hadn’t you wouldn’t be here,” Dante cut him off.
The room went silent, even if you dropped a pin, you could hear the sound.
He pulled a seat for me at his side, and then sat at the head of the long table.
“We’re holding a press by noon.”
“We can’t wait till noon, the company’s stock is at stake. I suggest we make our decisions now.” Mr. Gideon said.
“Are you teaching me what to do?” Dante said, voice icy.
“We have the right of opinion. We’re part of this company,” Mrs. Voss said, standing.
“I don’t mind stripping you of your powers, Mrs. Voss.”
She sat back speechless.
“Get the press ready now.” Dante said, grabbing my hand to leave.
“I suggest she resigns from the company. We don’t need any more scandals.” A voice said from behind.
“Marco,” Dante said, “Strip him off every right he has and kick him out.”
“You didn’t need to go that far. I can resign and come back when everything settles.” I said, sipping wine on the couch.
“All you need to do is walk behind me. I’ll take care of everything.”
My phone vibrated, his eyes locked on mine.
“Who’s that?” He asked.
The screen flared white. Damian.
“Your brother,” I said.
“Don’t answer,” he said, taking the phone and tossing it on the couch.
“Why?”
“Because you don’t need him when I’m here.”
