Chapter 68 In my own willingness.
Isla’s POV.
“Don’t you dare!” I said, forcefully pulling away from his grip.
What was he going to do? Force himself on me?
Not if I submit, unless it’s on my terms.
“Why pretend you don’t want this, Isla?”
You think you can manipulate me like before? Never.
I clutched my hands to my towel.
“You think I want you? Never! I won’t be played by anyone anymore, Dante.”
He moved closer again, I almost lost my composure.
“I’ll get the divorce papers ready by evening. You don’t have a choice, quit resisting me.”
“And who said I don’t?”
His eyes flared wide at me, he twitched his lips at the corner.
“Ohh? I’m all ears, sweetheart.”
I tried to open my mouth but my throat went dry.
“I don’t care about what you do anyway, just know that I don’t love you anymore. I won’t submit to your wills.”
His hand reached for my cheek but I pushed it away.
“You can run, but can’t hide from me, Isla.”
He turned to leave.
“What I regret most in my life was letting myself fall for your beautiful lies in disguise of love.”
“Do you really hate me that much?”
“I don’t hate you. I hate myself. For trusting those cold eyes even when I knew the outcome.”
He turned to me, there was a flicker of warmth in his eyes, but then it turned cold.
“I admit that I lied to you. I had judged you before getting to know who you are. But I had also pleaded for a second chance to make it up to you, Isla.”
I folded my hands into a fist by my side.
“You think just asking and playing a victim would make me forgive you? No!”
“What can I do to get your forgiveness then? Tell me, I’m willing to pay the price. Of course apart from leaving me, because that’s a no for me.”
No, you can’t use me and still want to have me, that’s not possible.
“I’ve been lied to all my life. My life is just a chess piece in everyone’s game! I appreciate all that you’ve done for me, but lying to me? Making me believe we’re destined for each other when you clearly denied me from the beginning? I won’t forgive you!”
He walked toward the door without saying another word.
“I’ll send the divorce papers to you this evening. I expect you to sign it before tomorrow morning. You’re mine. I get to decide what you do and what you don’t.”
My legs already bent on the floor before my body could control it.
He wasn’t here to apologize, he was here to exercise power?
Tears stung in my eyes, I tried to hold it back.
I couldn’t cry or think about anything else.
Why must he push me this hard?
My body curled together as cold flared across my skin.
After a moment of fighting in my head, I finally got myself together.
I didn’t really have a choice, and I guess he’ll keep pushing if I don’t sign the divorce paper.
“No matter how he persuades me, I won’t forgive him,” I muttered to myself.
My words remain even if he’s still persisted.
Why would my body still react to him, when my heart burned so much hatred for him?
“Stupid body! Always betraying me.”
My hands reached for the tv remote. The room was quiet, my mind was in total chaos.
I needed something to cheer me up a little.
Dante shouldn’t be the reason my life remained miserable.
There was a knock on the door.
“What now? Having a moment of peace here is a crime.”
I walked to open the door.
“Hello Mrs,” Dante’s assistant said, tugging a smile on his face.
“Quit giving me that creepy face of yours. What do you want?”
“Mrs, he said I should pass these papers to you. He said you know what to do.”
He’s certainly an impatient one. It hasn’t been three hours since he left, and he already prepared it.
I pulled the book from his hand and turned to go inside.
He cleared his throat. “Ma’am.”
“Is there anything else you need?”
“He said you should get it signed in my presence.”
“What did you say?”
He stepped back, feet shaking. I could feel heat flushed his skin.
“Go tell him I’ll return the book myself.”
“Ma’am please, don’t put me in a hard spot.”
“What do you mean? My words aren’t words? You all are really turning against me?”
“No Mrs, I’m just following…”
“That’s what you mean! Nobody ever takes me or my words seriously in this house!”
My hands pulled the paper apart.
You’ve really calculated me so well, Dante. You’ve got a really nice trick up your sleeves.
I grabbed the pen he was holding and signed my name on it.
“Ma’am, boss didn’t really mean to lie to you. He just wasn’t sure on how to approach you. Can you consider his feelings too…”
“You sure love him more than your life. I see how devoted you’re to him. Why don’t you love him in my place?”
“Ma’am. Can you give him another chance to make it up to you…”
My heart sank. I didn’t get my eyes off his ranting lips.
My hand almost landed in his face, I held it mid-air, he stepped back.
“Get out!” I yelled.
He panicked. Nobody had ever seen me in such a bad mood, I can’t even believe I would react that way.
Why should I give him a chance? Did anyone ever give me a chance?
