Chapter 56 I will make you beg!

Chapter 56 I will make you beg!
Isla’s POV.

“Is breakfast served?” I asked, walking toward the dining.
The mansion was a little quiet. Unlike before.
Servants kept turning when I walked past. The air felt a little different.
To me, it was the beginning of my revenge. After so many doubts, I finally stepped up against my father.
He was already seated in the dining area when I arrived.
Breakfast was already served.
“Is there a celebration at home today?” I asked, moving toward a seat.
“No madam,” the butler answered, smiling.
He didn’t say anything, but there was this warmth on his face.
Why’s everyone acting strange? I pinched my thighs.
“Why are there so many dishes today?”
She paused, looked at me, then at my husband.
“I prepared them according to Sir’s request.”
Sir’s request? I murmured. What was he up to this morning?
My hands found a fork, and I started digging in.
“Did you see the news?” He asked, finally moving toward a seat.
I didn’t respond. Yes I did. That was me doing Justice right there, fucker.
My head nodded once.
“Did you do that?” He digs into the food.
My hands stilled, eyes sharpened. My heart sank.
I cleared my throat. “You think I'm the one behind it?” I chuckled.
“Who knows. My instinct says you did.”
Hmmm. Your instinct. Well well, yes I did. I let out a sigh.
“You wanted us to discuss something today,” I said, moving my hand toward a glass of water.
I signaled for the butler. “I don’t like shrimps. Allergies.”
She nodded. “Sorry ma’am… I didn’t know.”
“I don’t eat people. I’m just telling you.”
He looked up at me, eyes warm. He pulled his hand towards the plate of shrimps and pushed them aside.
“You’ve never said you didn’t like them before, we’ve always had them. How didn’t I notice you didn’t…”
“That was because you never paid close attention to me.” I cut him off.
He clutched his fist. His mouth moved, but nothing came out.
“You don’t have to worry about that. It doesn’t matter anymore.”
“What do you mean…? I admit I hadn’t paid much attention to you… but I promise. From now on, I’ll make it up to you…”
My hand squeezed the fork, until my knuckles turned white.
“Late affection is cheaper than grass.”
I stood, drowning a cup of milk. “I’m leaving.”
He stood, pushing his chair aside. “Isla.”
The warmth that came from his voice was the same one he had always used for Lucia that I never got.
I looked up at him. My lungs flared warm, blood flushing so fast.
“What?”
“Can you give me another chance to make it up to you?”
Make it up to me? Too late! I already gave up on you the moment you decided to choose her over me.
Now that I was finally living the life I had always wanted, now that everything seemed to be going accordingly, I didn’t want anyone to destroy it.
I hesitated for a moment too long, then walked away.
“I can’t give you chances anymore.”
I could feel his pulse pounding so hard. I could feel his desperation.
That was how I felt when I needed him to see me, want me, or at least look toward my direction.
But he didn’t, every time I tried to convince myself that maybe, just maybe, someday he would look at me, he would notice me.
Even when my world was at the brink of collapsing, even when I felt like maybe he was just being distant.
But I was wrong all along. If he really did care about me, if he really had a slight affection toward me, he wouldn’t wait… he would.
Tears almost dropped on my cheeks, but I held them back.
Why would I cry for someone who didn’t care.
He didn’t love or feel anything for me. He’s just guilty.
Guilty that his brother would take me away from me.
He was scared of losing a trophy he never wanted.
He had never been rejected before. He couldn’t stand being rejected by me.

Damian was already at the office when I arrived.
He walked out of the office when he saw me approaching.
My heart thudded, eyes brightened.
There was this joy that came in my heart whenever I saw him.
He opened the door. A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.
“You keep giving me surprises, sweetheart.”
He opened his arms as I closed the distance between us.
“Good morning,” a smile slipped from my face.
“What surprises?”
“I saw the news. God! You did a great job right there.”
“I needed to put him in his place for once.”
“Looks like someone is already stepping up for herself.”
He always knew how to make his words sound sweet.
“It's gonna be a whole episode of dramas for him today.”
I smirked. “He should be ready for more. This is just the beginning. When I’m done with him, he’d regret ever messing with me.”
“Go girl. You don’t need to worry about anything. I’ll always be right there, backing you up.”
