Chapter 52 Father.
Isla’s POV.
It’s been over a year since I got married. And I’ve come to understand something. Love isn’t enough.
And not being loved by someone you call your partner is hell.
That's why my mother didn’t have a good married life.
My father had called me last night, to confirm if I had made up my mind about what we had talked about the last time we spoke.
“Isla,” he started, voice icy. Like they had always been.
“What do I owe you this time?” I answered, squeezing my hand on the mattress.
I hated seeing his name on my screen. He was either after something or threatening me.
“I hadn’t gotten a response from you. I called to remind you. My patient is running out, Isla.”
I clenched my phone so hard, my k ink Les turned white.
Why the hell does he keep pestering and pushing me so hard?
“Is this why you called me in the middle of the night, father?”
“Little brat! You dare to talk to me like that. I see you’ve grown wings.”
I gave a deep sigh, rubbing my sleepy eyes so hard.
I was almost half asleep when my phone buzzed.
I lit my screen, there it was. His name is written boldly on it.
“You don’t get to order me around because I am your daughter. It’s time you stop playing these little dirty sneaky games with me.”
“Don’t forget I still have your siblings here with me.” He threatened.
“That’s all you’ve got, old man. Threats. What can you offer other than using your leverage.”
“I’ve also got something for you too. What about telling you a little secret?”
My legs moved toward the window.
The last time I visited home, I had added spy cameras to the gifts I had prepared for my siblings.
And had also prepared little notes on where to place them.
Josie had them placed on the flowers in his office, under the table, in the living room, in his room, and in the shower room.
It was really difficult for them to hide them perfectly without drawing his attention.
But it was a success. Ever since then, I had access to whatever he was planning.
His conversations, the password to his secret vault, and every movement he had at home.
He wouldn’t be the only one who had access to our lives.
He shouldn’t be the only one controlling our lives, I could play tricks on him too.
I needed leverage over him too. Something that would bring him down.
I wasn’t in a hurry, I would break him slowly, make him lose everything he thought he had.
My heart slammed on my rib cage.
I’ll make him think he held all the power, I’ll make him think he had the most perfect plan, make his dreams come through.
Then dismantle them piece by piece, I’ll watch him fall from something to nothing.
While he was busy with women, parties, and friends, while he was making threats, my siblings and I were plotting our revenge.
“Hmm. What tricks are you playing now?” He snorted.
“Guess the little secret I have for you father?”
I could feel how hard his heart pondered even while he pretended my words couldn’t get to him.
I’ve decided that from now on, I’ll keep giving him surprises until the day my revenge is fully executed.
“Quit wasting my time. Don’t think having some dirt on me will scare me.”
I admit that he was a strong opponent, and defeating him would be hard, but even if it cost me my life, I wouldn’t stop.
“How would you feel if you woke up tomorrow morning and the first thing you saw on the internet was the news of your tax invasion and money laundering?”
He gave a cold laugh. “That’s all you’ve got? Hahaha. You’re so funny, Isla.”
The sound of his laughter made my stomach twist. It was so disgusting.
He was always a proud person, I knew him for that.
Every time he acted like he owned everything, like he had the power and right over us, my heart ached.
“Why do you even think they would believe your little lies? Nobody would take your words seriously.”
“Sounds funny right?” I smirked.
I howled with laughter. “Hahaha.”
“Why are you laughing? At your own jokes right?” He cut me off.
“I think it’s time I get things straight with you. To you, it sounds funny and stupid.”
“It’s good you know that.”
“Mmm. Let’s see if you can handle what I have for you.”
I clicked on the send button. “I have all the evidence I need to pull your legs right here.”
“I just sent you a tip. Why don’t you check your phone and see if I still sounded funny.”
“Don’t you dare, Isla!” He growled, grunting his teeth.
A smile left my lips, as the look on my eyes sharpened.
“Oh, father. I didn’t mean to get you angry. I… I… hahaha.” My voice broke.
“Don’t get exhausted already. You have more surprises on the way.”
“You think you can scare me? You’re just an ignorant kid who…”
I didn’t let him finish his words. I ended the call without a second thought.
My body jolted as I let out a deep breath, like I’d been holding it for a decade.
My chest rose and fell, I clutched my hand on them as if that would stable it.
The air on my lungs flared hot. The ground suddenly felt too cold even when I had my footwear on.
I could feel heat curling down my thighs. Body vibrating.
It took me so much courage to fight back and I wouldn’t stop now.
I had my siblings to save, my mother’s heritage wouldn’t go to waste.
I slowly sat on the floor, wrapping my arms around myself.
“I can’t lose.” I whispered to myself. “Staying strong was the only option I had.”
No matter what happens I will not let him win.
I want him to have a taste his medicine.
