Chapter 9 — Suspicion

Eloisa came home with her crumpled face. She roamed her eyes inside the mansion to look for her husband, but she found nothing. She quickly grabs her phone from her handbag and called him.

"Hon, I thought you're not going to the office today and I will take charge in the meantime? But where are you? I just got home!” she said with a pissed on her face.

While talking to her husband, she didn't notice that Greta was inside too playing with Austin. Eloisa heard a noise upstairs so when her house staff passed by holding a tray of snacks for two, she asked her.

“Hey, do we have a visitor here?” she said, and her staff nodded.

She was confused since no one came into her house except the people who were part of their family. She took the tray from her and offer to bring it upstairs.

"Let me. Anyway, who came here to visit Austin?” she asked her staff again.

She scratches her head trying to remember the name of the guest until she finally recalled.

“Ah, her name was Greta Stone. She told me that she was Sir Kent's brother's wife, so I let her in!” she mumbled.

After hearing it, Eloisa rushes upstairs to check her son in his room. While in the hallway, she heard their laughter.

"How dare she come and acted like this is her home?” she gritted her teeth in anger.

At last, she was in front of Austin's door. She knocked and the door instantly creaked open. Greta herself opened it.

“Hi, I'm sorry if I didn't tell you to come. Austin invites me to play so I ended up here!” Lucy or Greta said but she knew how Eloisa hated it when she was around since she resembled her husband's past mistress.

She took a deep breath and set a fake smile on her.

"It's okay. I'm glad you came. I want someone to talk to. Can we go downstairs? Just the two of us?” she requested, and Greta accepted it.

“Sure. So Austin, let's play again on my next visit?” she asked her son, and the five-year-old healthy boy jump in excitement.

"Sure, Aunt Greta. Can I visit your house too? Mom, please can I sleep there?” he said while begging for Eloisa.

She shifted her eyes at him and set a fierce look which made Austin shut his mouth.

“Soon, baby. You will. Shall we?” Eloisa said while turning glances at Lucy.

Lucy waved her hands to Austin and embrace him again before leaving him in his room.

"See you later, buddy!” she mumbled, and the little boy looks sad after. Seems like he didn't want his aunt Greta to go yet.

She followed Eloisa downstairs. She waited, sitting on the couch while Eloisa made tea for both of them. She spread her vision around the house and it's her first time coming here. Back then when she came back to take her son back, they already in the airport, and she failed to come in time. It's the worst moment in her life. But now, she came back with new hope and courage to take everything back to normal again. She wants her life back.

“Did you wait long?” Eloisa asked her as she came back with a tray in her hands.

Greta shook her head and told her she's fine.

She slowly put the tray on the table and serves Greta her tea.

"Thanks!” she said and took a little sip on it.

Eloisa smiled and sat on the couch too which is on Greta's front.

She can't believe how she manages to be so elegant and sophisticated in her simple plain t-shirt and skinny jeans while wearing stiletto heels? Even she can't pull it off. Greta noticed how Eloisa stared at her, so she was the one who breaks the ice between them.

"Your son was cute, and he resembled his father so much, but I still can't find any little resemblance to you, I wonder why?” she sarcastically told Eloisa.

She laughed at Greta but deep inside she felt humiliated by her.

“Maybe my love for Kent we're head over heels that's why!” she replied and laughed again.

Greta just shrugged her shoulders and smiled back.

Eloisa suddenly set a serious face. She changed the topic.

"You know what, you look like my old friend but sadly she died two months ago." She told her while putting on a sad face this time.

Lucy secretly clenched her fist to contain herself from a nervous breakdown. Every time she remembers that day when a man wearing a bonnet shoot her legs and shoulders and the worst part was, he buried her alive.

"Oh? Well, I feel bad for her. I wish I had a twin sister though. Many said I have many faces, but I am the original." She said trying to act confident and calm.

Eloisa heard her shivering voice while answering her. Even her face hides it, she can't hide it in her voice and body gestures. She started to fix her hair and fidgeting her hands. She started to look pale too.

"I wish she's still alive so that I can introduce her to you. Her name was Lucy. She's my best friend." She added and act like she felt bad for her friend.

"Fake girl!” Lucy told to herself.

She will never forget how she betrayed her by marrying Kent and taking her son with a fake adoption contract.

"Smile and rejoice today Eloisa because your time is almost up!” She told herself while listening to her drama.

Lucy checked her wristwatch and it's almost three in the afternoon, so she decided to leave.

“Come back anytime you want, Greta. You're always welcome here!” Eloisa said while waving at her at the gate.

Lucy saw Austin running outside the mansion but if she went down for him, maybe Eloisa will get suspicious of her actions, so she ignored it and drive outside the private place.

She wanted to hold back the tears that were on the brink of her eyes already and ready to fall but she couldn't. Her son needed her. She can feel how Eloisa treated Austin like a stranger and not her son. She quickly dried her tears with tissue paper after arriving at their mansion.

Eloisa POV

"Follow her!” I quickly called Brian and his friends to do a task for me.

I had a bad feeling about this woman Greta Stone. I know she's hiding a very great secret.

“Find out where she came from? Everything about her, I need to know, understand!” I added before I turned off my phone.

If she's not Lucy, I won't still be at peace because of her face. I made my way to my room and opened my secret cabinet where I hid all the extra phones I used during my other transaction at Kent's dad and Brian. All the documents of our fake marriage and adoption papers were sealed here. He didn't know anything except his dad. Of course, I'm not a fool to be married to someone I didn't even love. This is all my dad's plan and to get my inheritance from him, I will marry the son of his business partner Alexander, Kent, and Gale's father.

Gale was my first love and not Kent. But because Lucy Mason was my rival at school, I made her pitiful in front of everyone. I laughed while putting the lock back to my secret cabinet.

Kent POV

We both sat outside the school campus. It's weekends so students had no classes. I took a sigh and lit one cigarette after giving him one stick too.

"So how are you? I never heard about you since we left." I told him as my eyes shifted towards his.

He looks pale and trembling as I will hurt him.

"Oh, look at me, my business is still there and so am I. I started to get busy since you left. " Gregory told me but I don't believe him.

After we left I know Lucy and Gregory had seen each other by chance. Maybe she asks him about me.

"Can I ask you something? Did you meet with Lucy?” I simply said.

I saw in the peripheral of my eyes that he twitched after hearing Lucy's name.

"What? Lucy? Yes, once but I lost contact with her after she went to prison." He told me and I quickly grab his shirt towards me.

"How come? Tell me what did you and Eloisa did to her? Haven't you heard about her again after she got discharged this year? Tell me!” I was now in my range.

Gregory looks surprised at what I did. He's only the one who can save her, but he let her go to prison. He's my friend but he betrayed me too. He holds my hands and struggling to take them from his clothes.

“Kent, relax. I'm just fooled by her. I'm so sorry. I don't know where Lucy is either. I saw her the first day they discharged her, but she ran away from me. That's all I know!” he explained to me, but I won't believe him.

I pushed him away and spit on him.

"How dare you keep a secret from me! I'm the one who helps you and your mom! Not Eloisa!” I said and his eyes widened in shock.

“What did you say? You are the one who put the money in my bank account?” he said, and I nod my head.

Gregory can't believe that he was been fooled by Eloisa too.

I came closer and ask him once again.

"I ask you one last time. What happened to Lucy?” I told him trying to control my anger. My jaw keeps tightening while clenching my fist.

Gregory took a deep breath and told me the truth.

“Don't be shocked. Lucy died two months ago. Her body was found inside a muddy hole in Tagaytay. Police reported that she was buried alive by her abductor! It's my fault. I didn't stop her that day!” He cupped his head and cries out.

About me, I feel like my heart was stabbed many times by a sharp knife.

She died without mercy. I kneeled on my feet on the ground and let out my loud cries as the rain started to fall on us.
