"Is she alright?" I asked Alena's nanny over the phone since Dante and I were both working.
"Alena's fine, ma'am," she answered. "She has had her breakfast and is now drawing. I will communicate with you if anything happens."
"Thank you, Mandy." I hung up the call as we headed inside the hospital and went to clock in.
Dante and I made Alena stay home for a week before she could return to school. We wanted to be sure that she was alright while we were still waiting for her scan results.
"I have a possible 12-hour surgery today, so I might not see you until dinner," Dante informed me while we were in the reception area.
"Oh no, that's too bad," I groaned as I looked at him. "I thought I would have my lunch buddy today."
"Don't worry, I will see you during dinner," he said as he leaned forward and kissed my cheek. "And I was thinking we should both take a day off tomorrow and go somewhere. We need a little break, don't you think?"
"You mean we should skip work?" I chuckled as I looked at him and couldn't believe the peace he had brought into my life.
"Would that be a problem?" He asked, kissing my lips this time. He didn't even care that we were at work and people were gawking at us. "I saw the numbers last night, you've reached your two thousand and two hundredth patient."
I rolled my eyes and chuckled. "Are we focusing on the numbers again? I thought we won't look at them until they are three thousand."
"I like looking at them so I can boast about my genius doctor," he answered, nibbling my earlobe and I chuckled. "Who else can boast about you if not me?"
"Enough boasting," I said as I pulled away from him and walked down the corridor. "We must get to work and your surgery is waiting, Dr. Lark."
He grabbed my wrist and pulled me inside the storage room, and closed the door.
