Chapter 59 Chapter 0059
•NADIA•
"I will show him who I am," I muttered under my breath as I headed to the council hall. "His time as Alpha will be over soon."
I couldn't believe the audacity Mason had to humiliate me and my father in front of Liam and that useless junk he called his fiancé.
Worse, he had been defending Cassandra as if he knew her more than me. He cared for her more than me because of the stupid bond they shared.
I stopped at the corridor leading to the main doors when my cell phone rang in my pocket. I rolled my eyes as I pulled it out.
I then answered the call and pressed the phone to my ear when I saw my father’s name on the screen.
"Father, can we talk later?" I said, looking around the corridor. "I am meeting Elder Draven."
"This can't wait, Nadia," he answered, his voice sounding impatient. "We will be in danger if Mason lets Jane go. He will want to know what happened when you made it. He will know the truth."
"You need to calm down, Father," I answered. "I have a plan, and Mason won't find anything. We should let him waste his time and money."
"Are you sure?" He asked. "Elder Fenrik will side with him and that would be a problem. We need to find another way to distract him."
"Do you trust me?"
He was quiet for a moment before he answered. "What's your plan?"
"You will see," I answered with a smirk as I headed to the front doors. "I will call you." I hung up the call and slipped my cell phone back into my pocket.
I was sure that while Mason was busy thinking about what I meant when I said he should rethink our marriage, it would be too late.
Once the elders side with me, his entire position will be questioned and I will be recognized as the rightful Alpha.
Everything that Mason and his father had taken from my family would be mine.
When I walked in, I found Elder Draven sitting alone around the wooden table. He was looking at the map that they were discussing with Mason.
But I didn't want to bother myself with those details. They sounded rather pointless right now. My priority was to be the Alpha.
“Luna,” he said when he lifted his head and saw me approaching the table. “To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit? I trust all is well at the school?”
I smiled at him as I sat on the chair beside him. “Elder Draven, thank you for seeing me. The school is functioning. But my visit isn’t about the school or the students, but rather the interest of our pack.”
He folded the map and shoved it on the far end of the table as he turned his attention fully to me.
"I am speaking about my husband," I answered. "While his recovery was a blessing, I fear that the Alpha is no longer himself. He makes poor decisions and his mind has been—" I paused and sniffed. "He's not himself."
"Well," he cleared his throat. "The Alpha has been through a lot, Luna. He almost lost his life and we are still trying to find out what happened to him. We only need to give him time to heal and regain his normal self."
"But his mind, Elder," I sighed, my voice dropping into a whisper. "I'm afraid that whatever they gave him has messed with his senses or memories. He screams Cassandra’s name at night, and has mistaken me for her once."
"Oh, Luna," he muttered, shifting in his chair. "I never thought it was that bad."
"The pack needs a strong, clear-headed Alpha, especially now, with whispers of rogue activity on our borders," I answered. "We can't rely on the Alpha to protect us and our borders."
I watched him carefully, noting the subtle tightening around his mouth. He was a traditionalist, a stickler for order and strength.
"I will speak with the elders, Luna," he finally answered as he met my eyes. "We have to reach a conclusion on this matter before the Alpha’s mental state worsens. We aren't sure if the poison had permanent disruptions in his mind or not, but we can't gamble with our pack's safety."
"I truly believe that my husband is still inside there, but I couldn't sit and say nothing," I said as I rubbed my forehead and sniffed. I wanted him to see how distressed I was. "He scares me."
"We will find a way forward, Luna," he answered. "If there's a way to help the Alpha, then we will help him."
I closed my eyes and breathed before blurting out the words that had been on my mind while I was on my way to the council hall.
"The Alpha has asked for Jane and Liam to be executed."
