Chapter 89: The Impossible Surgery
Joseph's sharp eyes glanced at Mia, then landed on Ava and paused for a moment.
Ava's expression was calm, showing no emotion.
"Dr. Wilson, this surgery has already been assigned to Dr. Davis."
Mia bit her lip, quickly composed herself, and smiled slowly. "Joseph, why don't you take a look at my surgical plan first? Mr. Myers has reviewed it and made some modifications. He said there's no problem with it."
Joseph raised an eyebrow. "Barry thinks it's fine?"
"Yes." Mia smiled confidently.
Joseph flipped through it, couldn't help raising his eyebrows, then looked at Ava.
Mia said gently to Ava, "Dr. Davis just got out of the hospital and should rest more. Joseph, why don't you let me handle this surgery? Besides, I've already prepared a surgical plan. Wouldn't it be more reliable to give it to me?"
Ava smiled faintly, her eyes scanning Mia's surgical plan a few times. She raised an eyebrow slightly and asked, "Where does your confidence come from?"
"Dr. Davis, are you questioning my surgical plan?"
"Obviously, yes."
Mia gritted her teeth in anger. "Dr. Davis, you haven't even seen the patient. How can you be sure there's a problem with my surgical plan?"
Ava held up the patient's medical records. "The patient's tumor is already in the late stage, and the heart's major blood vessels show adhesion. Surgical removal is difficult, and the post-operative quality of life is very low."
"But given the patient's current condition, removal is the fastest way to save their life."
"That's based on early to mid-stage tumors. Your plan isn't suitable for critically ill, elderly patients." Ava said without any expression.
Mia was furious. "I don't agree with what you're saying. The patient is already in critical condition..."
Ava sighed lightly and stopped arguing with her. "Let's have a consultation."
"When?"
"Now."
Mia sneered. A consultation? She didn't even have a surgical plan, so how could she discuss it? She was just asking for trouble. Mia was naturally happy to oblige.
"Perfect. Mr. Myers is also very interested in this surgery, so let's have him judge." Mia already wore a victorious smile.
Ava had no objection.
In the conference room, several cardiac surgeons saw Barry there and gathered around to ask for advice. Mia stood beside Barry, arm in arm with him, chatting and laughing.
Hearing that Ava and Mia were competing for the same surgery again, many doctors walking past the conference room couldn't help but peek inside.
At the front of the U-shaped conference table, Mia stood in front of the screen and confidently presented her surgical plan and treatment process for the patient.
"Alright, this is my surgical plan. I believe this is the best way to save the patient's life."
After Mia finished, everyone nodded in agreement. Mia looked at Ava triumphantly, full of challenge.
Ava's hands rested on the table, her whole demeanor calm and composed, eyes lowered, as if thinking about something.
It was Ava's turn now, and everyone's curious gazes turned to her.
Mia held her chin high. Ava hadn't attended yesterday's consultation discussion and hadn't even seen the patient. Just from reading the medical records, Mia was sure she couldn't come up with a surgical plan.
So she became more and more smug, convinced that Ava couldn't compete with her no matter what.
Under everyone's gaze, Ava slowly stood up. She walked unhurriedly to the large screen at the front.
Mia smiled mockingly. "Dr. Davis said she doesn't agree with my surgical plan, so Dr. Davis must have a better one, right? Let's hear it."
Mia said this on purpose, and everyone looked at Ava. She wanted to embarrass Ava.
Ava just glanced at her lightly, her cool voice spreading clearly as she explained her surgical plan and insights, and could fluently answer the sharp questions raised by Barry and other doctors.
After Ava finished, the room fell silent.
"I heard you just read the patient's medical records. When did you come up with this plan?" Barry asked.
Ava raised her eyebrows slightly. "Just now."
Barry couldn't help but nod, a long-lost appreciation in his shrewd eyes.
Mia looked at this scene in panic, her hands clenched tightly, forcing a smile. "Dr. Davis, your plan is safe for the patient's current condition, but currently only Cynthia has completed this technique on record. You..."
Ava calmly twirled the pen in her hand, her serious brow furrowing. "Since I'm proposing it, I can complete it. This is a plan to protect the patient. If we follow your surgical plan, accidents can easily occur during surgery, and even if the surgery succeeds, the patient will face significant health risks afterward."
"I stand by my surgical plan." Ava said firmly, and several doctors nodded in agreement.
Mia gritted her back teeth and sneered. "Dr. Davis, I'm not doubting your ability, but this technique has only been completed by Cynthia so far. Are you really confident?"
"Yes, this technique has only been recorded by Cynthia. Dr. Davis, we don't believe you can complete it. If you can't, the risk is too great." Several doctors nodded in agreement.
"I believe in Dr. Davis's surgical plan. Dr. Wilson's plan can't ensure the patient's quality of life afterward, and it has a high recurrence rate." Thora always had one hundred percent trust in Ava and firmly spoke up for her.
"No doctor can guarantee no recurrence after surgery. Dr. White, can you guarantee that patients won't have any recurrence after every surgery you perform?" Mia snorted and refuted Thora's words. "The patient is in critical condition right now. Isn't saving their life the priority?"
Ava: "Saving lives is certainly important, but we need to use the right method."
Mia: "Dr. Davis's method is certainly good, but you don't have the skill and can't complete it, right?"
Ava: "You're not me, so how do you know I can't complete it?"
"Whether you can complete it or not, I'm sorry to say, Dr. Davis, I've already reached an agreement with the patient's family to use my surgical plan." Mia gritted her teeth hard and had to pull out her trump card prepared in advance.
Who told Ava to still be hospitalized yesterday? Mia smiled triumphantly.
Ava calmly raised an eyebrow. "Fine, then we'll see at this afternoon's public surgery."
Everyone knew that this was a critical moment for these two competing for the position of cardiac surgery director. If Mia really completed such a major surgery perfectly, then Ava would have no chance at all.
Mia thought of exactly this point. Even without much confidence, she had to take the risk and was determined to secure this surgery.
Ava's expression was calm. She didn't say much more, took her things and left the conference room. Ava wasn't trying to compete with Mia for this surgery; she was just worried about the patient. Ava wanted to go to the ward to check on the patient's condition when a consistently serious voice sounded behind her.
"Wait."
Barry called out to Ava. Ava turned around and saw Barry walking toward her.
"Do you need something else?"
