Chapter 61 Promotion to Director
"Not at all, we just care about Mommy's matters."
Ava shook her head and smiled helplessly, "Alright, I know you two are the smartest."
"Of course, who told us we're Mommy's kids?"
Ava chuckled, "Hurry up and go in, don't be late."
"Bye, Mommy."
"Don't forget."
"..."
At the hospital, Ava was in a good mood today, her steps much lighter. Plus, she'd put on a bit of light makeup this morning, making her look full of energy and especially beautiful, practically glowing.
Although she'd put on some makeup today, Ava didn't think they needed to keep staring at her like that.
And those looks carried a strange scrutiny, with constant whispers reaching her ears and pointing fingers catching her eye.
Ava's smooth brow furrowed slightly. When entering the elevator, a young nurse even bumped into her. Not only did she not apologize, but she also viciously rolled her eyes at Ava.
This baseless hostility made a hint of darkness flash across Ava's calm face.
As soon as she returned to the office, several cold snorts rang in her ears, as if they had huge complaints against her. Ava was even more confused. Only Thora came forward when she saw her and gave her a big hug.
Ava was at a loss.
"Ava, congratulations."
Ava blinked, slowly speaking, her cool voice carrying some doubt, "Congratulations for what?"
"You don't know? Mr. Miller personally announced it. The old director retired, and you've been promoted to Director of Cardiac Surgery. Ava, you're definitely the youngest director in our department's history."
Ava raised an eyebrow slightly, a flash of surprise crossing her face, but no other emotion. This news wasn't particularly exciting for her. She just smiled faintly, "That is something to be happy about."
"Ava, why aren't you excited?" Thora knew Ava had a cool personality and was always calm.
But the director position was something so many people fought desperately for with envy and couldn't reach, and she was only 28 years old. She'd become director at such a young age - how could she not be excited or happy at all?
If it were Thora, if she could become director before forty, she'd probably be happy for three days and nights straight.
"It was expected." Ava changed into her clothes, answering unhurriedly.
When Ava first joined the hospital, Joseph had offered her the director position, but Ava had refused.
She was only twenty-eight this year. Coming in and immediately taking the position from someone who'd been director for over a decade - first, it wasn't appropriate, and second, it would be hard to gain respect.
But now that the position was vacant, naturally she wouldn't refuse it and hand it over to someone else.
"How ridiculous, 'expected' - clearly got it through connections."
"With connections, of course it's different. Her connection is Mr. Miller himself - that's quite something."
"Unlike us who've worked ourselves to death for the hospital all these years, can't compare to someone who's been here three months. Having connections really is different."
"What are you all jealous about? You've all seen Dr. Davis's surgical skills. Can't you see her surgery success rate for yourselves?"
Thora put her hands on her hips, her chubby face full of anger. She just couldn't stand these people's sarcasm. If they had the ability, they should go become director themselves.
Ava gently held Thora's arm, frowning slightly, "Forget it."
The time spent arguing with them would be better spent seeing a few more patients.
She'd taken the position fully prepared to be mocked and ridiculed, and of course, she was ready to accept their challenges at any time.
She would use her actions to prove to everyone how laughable their disdain, sarcasm, and contempt were.
Some were happy, some were upset. Mia had stayed in the hospital room for two days, originally thinking it would earn Joshua's sympathy, but except for the day she woke up, Joshua hadn't appeared again. She already resented Ava enough, and now hearing this news, she was so angry she almost jumped out of bed, wishing she could rush over, grab Ava by the hair, and ask if she was worthy!
"Ava promoted to director? Who announced it?" Mia gripped the bedsheet tightly with one hand and clutched her chest with the other, suppressing her rage, her face twisted - that expression looked even more uncomfortable than constipation.
"Who else could it be? She's so capable, she has connections with Mr. Miller." Lyra spoke sarcastically, practically grinding her teeth, speaking viciously.
"What?" Mia narrowed her eyes, strong disbelief surging in them.
How did Ava manage to get connected with Joseph, and he even directly promoted her to director? Joseph had never done anything this exceptional before.
Lyra looked at Dean, who was pouring water for Mia, "Dr. Palmer, didn't you say you'd do anything for Mia, spare no effort? Now this woman Ava has become director, Mia is so upset she could die, and you're still doing nothing?"
Lyra stamped her feet in anger.
"Dr. Palmer, are you taking this matter seriously?" Mia didn't take the water Dean handed her, her eyes full of tears, looking pitiful.
Seeing this, Dean's heart tightened, his eyes behind the rimless glasses showing nothing but concern.
"Mia, of course I take your matters to heart, but these past few days that stupid woman Thora has been giving me a hard time..."
"Fine, Dr. Palmer, you should go. I know I'm making things difficult for you. I'm not worth you doing all this for me." Mia's pretty face was covered in tears, that fragile and heartbroken look making her even more pitiful.
