Chapter 220 A Heart-to-Heart Talk
Chapter 220 A Heart-to-Heart Talk
"Why?" Joshua's eyes turned cold.
Ava pressed her lips together. She knew Joshua was angry. Just now there were outsiders present, and after he dealt with them, it was her turn.
With Joshua's intelligence, since he saw what happened, he must have figured it out. He was asking her just to make her admit her mistake herself.
Joshua kept his eyes on her. Seeing the woman like this, his heart ached and he was angry at the same time.
"Joshua, please don't be angry, okay?" Ava's voice was soft.
Joshua said nothing, and his hands didn't stop what they were doing.
Ava blinked. "Because Mom said they've been too arrogant, relying on their seniority, and even Mom has suffered a lot of grievances.
Joshua, you know what? Today Mom said she would protect me, so naturally I have to protect her too. Dad's not by her side, it's not easy for Mom being alone, but I still have you.
Look, when I got bullied, you immediately got revenge for me, didn't you?
Come on, don't be angry anymore, okay?"
Ava snuggled into Joshua's arms, leaning against his chest, looking up at him with a gentle smile that was a bit flattering, acting incredibly sweet.
Joshua's expression didn't soften. "You're pretty smart, aren't you? Should I praise you for your self-sacrificing spirit?"
"Go ahead and praise me, I'm listening."
Ava's little face was all smiles, but her eyes were still red and there were handprints on her face. She looked really pitiful.
A hint of helplessness flashed in Joshua's eyes.
"Ava, I'm really trying to have a serious talk with you about this."
Ava nodded repeatedly like a good student. "I'm listening very seriously."
"I can't stand to see you suffer even a little bit, you know that?"
Ava felt clear about it in her heart. Of course she knew.
"But didn't you hit back for me? You saw it yourself, Cordelia was scared to death in the end."
"Plus, they started it. I was being nice and greeting her, and she just started attacking me out of nowhere. She said I had no manners, that I was beneath notice, that I would embarrass you. Have I ever embarrassed you when you took me out?"
"No."
"Right? So I was really angry. What right did she have to say those things about me? So I talked back, wasn't that right?"
"It was."
"Right, right? And she still wouldn't back down after I talked back. She kept pointing at me and cursing, and even talked about Mom. It was absolutely unbearable. I said a few things, and when she couldn't win the argument, she tried to hit me. Since that's how it was, I just went along with it.
Mom said Grandpa wants you brothers to get along, but obviously our constant backing down only makes them more arrogant. You know me, I've never been someone who's willing to fight fire with fire. I married you, I'm part of the Thomas family too, so shouldn't I make these arrogant people in the Thomas family get lost? It'll be more peaceful in the future, right?"
She really did have a point for everything.
But...
"Is that what we're talking about here?"
"Yes, yes it is."
He really had no way to deal with Ava.
"Ava, you may deal with them, but you must never put yourself in harm's way. Do you understand?"
"I admit this method was a case of fighting fire with fire, but it worked, didn't it? They can't blame me either. If they don't provoke me, I definitely won't deliberately go after them."
That's just how Ava was. If others didn't provoke her, everything was fine.
But if they did provoke her, she definitely wasn't someone who would just take it.
Joshua rubbed his temples. "Fine, I know you're capable. You're the most capable. I can't outsmart you, and I can't out-argue you either."
Joshua reached out to pull Ava's hands away, but ended up being held even tighter.
"Let go of me."
"No, please don't be angry, okay?" Ava held onto Joshua tightly.
After several attempts to push her away, Joshua couldn't shake off Ava, and he couldn't bring himself to use force on her.
Finally, Joshua sighed helplessly. "Do you know you were wrong?"
Ava nodded. "I know, I know. Next time if they try to hit me, I'll dodge."
She seemed to really get it.
But also seemed not to.
Joshua raised his hand to rub his throbbing temples. "If anyone dares to hit you again, I'll make sure she's carried out. You're not allowed to let yourself suffer even the slightest grievance. If something happens, tell me and I'll handle it for you, understand?"
Ava looked completely obedient. "That won't really work. This time was an accident. I can handle the other stuff myself. You're so busy with work, how could I bother you with these trivial matters?"
Joshua said, "Ava, I'm your husband. Your matters are the most important matters to me. No matter how busy I am, I can handle them."
Ava stubbornly shook her head. "No, you don't know how much scheming goes on between women. Just today I ran into a whole bunch of it. I want to handle it myself."
Joshua clenched his jaw. "Fine, you're the most capable. I can't control you."
