Chapter 218 Ava Stands Her Ground

Chapter 218 Ava Stands Her Ground

"Are you calling me a liar?" Ursa's face turned cold as she asked in a suppressed voice.

Cordelia exchanged a glance with her husband Parker. Parker gave her a look, and she seemed to gain confidence to continue.

"I had no idea Joshua got married. But Ursa, you really should be more careful about judging people. I wonder which prestigious family this lady is from - I've never heard of her?"

Cordelia raised her chin and looked at Ava with disdain.

"I'm not from any prestigious family," Ava said, her gaze calm and direct.

Cordelia sneered. "So you're from some nobody family? Ursa, what were you thinking, letting Joshua marry such an unsuitable wife? Aren't you afraid of being laughed at?

Ursa, I'm telling you, you should talk to Joshua and get him to divorce her quickly. Otherwise, when you take her out, you'll be the ones embarrassed."

"Whether others mock me is my own concern," Ava said, her expression still calm. She listened to Cordelia's taunts as if they were trivial jokes, letting them wash right over her.

"You should worry about yourself instead."

"What should I worry about?"

"You constantly mock and ridicule others. You're mean-spirited and rude. You don't act like a proper lady at all. You should consider whether you're embarrassing Parker," Ava said in a flat tone.

"You! Who are you to criticize me?" Cordelia angrily pointed at Ava and rushed toward her.

Ava smiled slightly. "Then how is what I do any of your business?"

Her tone remained cool and elegant as always.

It sounded harmless, but her casual manner was enough to infuriate anyone.

After a pause, Ava added, "But Cordelia, you're really strange. You don't like people talking about you, so why do you love talking about others so much?"

"I'm an elder - you won't even let me speak?" Cordelia had never been treated like this. Who did this woman think she was, talking to her like that? Was she crazy?

"You are an elder, that's true. But Cordelia, when it comes to my elders, my mother-in-law comes first, and you come second. My mother-in-law hasn't said a single bad word about me, so why do you keep making snide remarks?"

"It's because Ursa is too easy-going and never disciplines you, letting you run wild. That's why I need to teach you a lesson!"

"Yes, you're right," Ava nodded. "My mother-in-law's temper isn't as fierce and rude as yours.

Running wild - you're right about that too. After all, it proves my husband spoils me. Otherwise, I wouldn't dare to run wild, would I? So in that sense, running wild is actually my privilege."

"You..." Cordelia was so angry she stamped her foot. "You woman are just too much. You really are from a nobody family - you have no manners at all."

"You keep mocking me, but my mother-in-law and husband both accept me. Are you questioning my mother-in-law's and Joshua's judgment?" Ava's tone grew sharper.

Ava knew exactly what Cordelia was up to. She was Joshua's wife - bullying her was the same as slapping Joshua in the face.

There was no way Ava would let herself be bullied.

She stood there quietly while Cordelia clutched her chest in anger, pointing at Ava as tears streamed down her face. "Dad, did you see that? This woman is just too much. If she dares to talk back to me today, she'll dare to talk back to you tomorrow.

Dad, please stand up for me."

Parker stepped forward to support his wife, glaring at Ava with both anger and shock in his eyes.

This was definitely someone who refused to be at a disadvantage. Every word she said not only defended herself but also protected Ursa and Joshua.

And she showed no emotion, casually making Cordelia this angry.

Cordelia was known for being domineering - even women her own age would be torn apart by her attacks.

Yet Ava had the upper hand from the very first sentence.

Parker narrowed his eyes and said sternly, "Ursa really should discipline your daughter-in-law properly."

Ursa was feeling quite excited at that moment. She knew Ava would retaliate when provoked, but she never expected her to be this strong, actually making Cordelia cry.

Ursa couldn't help but think more highly of Ava. Because Parker's family was the senior branch, even she had been suppressed by this woman for many years. Today, Ava had finally given her a satisfying revenge, and she felt great.

Hearing Parker say this, she replied bluntly, "Parker, I don't think my daughter-in-law said anything wrong. What exactly do you want me to discipline her for?"

Parker's cheeks puffed up in anger. He turned to look at Victor, who had been silent the whole time. "Dad..."

"Both of you get out," Victor said sternly.

Cordelia had never been one to accept losses. Right now she was furious - being humiliated by a younger person like this, how could she let it go?

"Let go of me. I'm going to beat this disrespectful bitch to death."

She shook off Parker's hand and rushed forward. Parker's grip loosened and he couldn't hold her back.

She raised her hand and swung it at Ava's face.

Ava's eyes turned cold. Just as she was about to dodge, she stopped herself. Almost in the next instant, there was a sharp crack echoed through the room.

Ava took Cordelia's slap squarely on the face. Then her body staggered backward and slammed hard into the wall behind her. The pain made her furrow her brow.

"Ava!"

Both Ursa and Victor's hearts sank with alarm.

Ursa was just about to rush over to help her when a heavy thud rang out.

Something large suddenly flew through the air. Cups on the table fell everywhere, crashing loudly.

Ursa froze for a moment, staring blankly at Cordelia wailing on the floor by the coffee table. Her mouth hung open, and it took her a moment to snap out of her shock. She slowly turned to look at the man whose entire presence radiated murderous fury.
