Chapter 19 His Indulgence Toward Ava
"Mia, was she just provoking us?" Lyra stomped her feet in anger.
The more excellent Ava used to be, the more they hated her.
Who would have thought that even after being expelled back then, she could still get into the hospital. Just with that face of hers, she seemed to steal everyone's attention without doing anything.
How could she not be jealous?
Mia stared hard at Ava's retreating figure, irritably snapping at Lyra's endless chatter, "Enough, stop talking. You're driving me crazy."
"Are you really willing to let this waste stay at the hospital and work with us?"
Of course not. Did Ava deserve it?
She didn't deserve it at all.
If she wanted to stay at the hospital, she'd have to ask for her permission first.
......
On her first day at work, Ava didn't have much to handle. She saw a few patients and organized some medical records. Joseph had invited her to dinner at his house, but Ava declined—she had to pick up the two kids from school at 4:30 in the afternoon.
Leaving the hospital, Ava put on her coat and came to the parking lot. Just as she took out her keys from her bag and was about to get in the car, she suddenly heard footsteps behind her.
Ava frowned slightly, calmly stopped, and sighed, "Is Ms. Wilson planning to haunt me?"
Mia dropped the pretense and sneered coldly, "The one haunting people is Ms. Davis, isn't it?"
Ava turned her head, looking at Mia with a calm expression, "What do you want to say?"
"Ms. Davis left for five years, so why come back? Are you hoping to rekindle your old romance with Joshua?"
Whether it was saving Victor yesterday or starting at the hospital today, it all gave her a strong sense of crisis.
"Is that any of your business?" Ava laughed coldly. "What are you afraid of? Afraid I'll steal your Joshua?"
"You can't steal him away. Our two families have already started discussing the engagement date. Ava, the woman by Joshua's side is destined to be me."
"Good." Ava responded lightly, looking at Mia thoughtfully, her delicate face carrying a smile that didn't reach her eyes.
"Then what's the point of you coming to tell me all this today?"
"Don't get close to Joshua anymore, don't appear at the Thomas Villa again. Go back to where you belong." Mia lifted her head proudly.
Ava crossed her arms, leaning slightly against the car, looking at Mia lazily, momentarily speechless, finding her somewhat amusing.
"In the end, aren't you still afraid I'll steal your Joshua? Don't worry..."
Ava paused, straightened up, leaned in closer to Mia with a bright smile, "I definitely will compete with you for him."
"You!" The smile on Mia's face collapsed instantly.
Ava raised her eyebrows with a hint of mockery.
Just then, a Rolls-Royce drove over and stopped smoothly.
Both Ava and Mia turned their heads. Ava looked at the car, finding it familiar. The next moment, a tall figure stepped out with a cold, imposing presence.
It was Joshua.
Joshua seemed to sense her gaze, looked up, and his deep eyes met hers directly.
"Joshua, you're here."
Mia walked over in her high heels. The face that had been full of hatred now wore a sweet smile as she approached Joshua's side, intimately linking her arm through his. Looking up at him, she said gently and shyly, "Joshua, I'm so happy you came to pick me up from work."
"What are you two doing?"
"I was just chatting with Ms. Davis. Oh, Joshua, do you know? Ms. Davis also joined the hospital. We're colleagues now. But after Ms. Davis was expelled from the academy back then, she didn't continue studying medicine, right? Getting into the hospital now must have taken quite some effort."
Mia's voice was soft as she talked to Joshua about Ava, sounding as if she cared about Ava.
Others might not hear it, but Ava could.
Wasn't she implying that if she could get into the hospital without studying medicine, she must have used improper connections?
She really couldn't wait to slander her in front of everyone, using her words to ruin her reputation.
Ava didn't speak, a cold smile playing at the corner of her mouth, turning a deaf ear to Mia's words.
"Ms. Davis..."
She had expected Ava to fiercely refute her, but instead Ava chose to ignore her completely. That look in her eyes—Mia knew it all too well—was clearly disdain. A sense of humiliation welled up inside her.
Ava didn't linger. She got in the car smoothly, closed the door, backed out of the parking space, and drove away quickly, all in one fluid motion.
The smile on Mia's face became even harder to maintain. She lowered her head and bit her lower lip gently, slowly turning back to look at Joshua, only to find him staring thoughtfully at Ava's departing car.
Mia ground her teeth in resentment, immediately putting on a wronged and vulnerable expression, calling out softly, "Joshua, Ms. Davis she..."
Joshua withdrew his gaze, somewhat helplessly, saying lightly, "That's just her temper. Just don't be like her."
Mia's heart sank. His words seemed to be advising her, but why did she detect a hint of indulgence toward Ava in his tone?
And this hint of indulgence might not even be something he himself had noticed.
Mia held back her anger, at this moment wishing she could drive after Ava and run her over.
"Let's go."
Mia nodded gently, her expression still showing melancholy and grievance, "Okay."
......
"Mommy, we missed you so much."
Ava smiled warmly, immediately pulling the two children into her arms. "Babies, Mommy missed you too. How was it? Did you have fun at school today? Tell me, did anything interesting happen at kindergarten today?"
"It was fun, Mommy. During nap time today, a classmate wet the bed and cried. I saw it and I comforted him."
"Really? How did Cleo comfort the classmate?"
"Cleo told him that he's only five years old, so wetting his pants isn't embarrassing. After all, not everyone is like me—I've never wet my pants. But I don't know why, the more I comforted him, the redder his face got, and then he ran away. He didn't seem happy at all. Why is that?" Cleo tilted her little head in confusion.
