Chapter 130 You Are the Best
"Refuse? Then why did you give him your contact information?"
Ava was so angry she gritted her teeth. "His grandmother is my patient. Doesn't she need to come back for follow-ups? And for follow-ups, doesn't she need to contact me, her attending doctor? What's wrong with adding contact information? If I don't give him my contact info, how is he supposed to reach me as his grandmother's attending doctor? Send a message through thin air?"
"You always have your reasons, don't you." Joshua was furious.
"Not as much as you do. You're the best, okay?" Ava was rarely this angry.
Ava pushed Joshua away and walked ahead without paying attention to him.
Joshua gritted his teeth and took two deep breaths. He never knew what to do with Ava.
"...I'm sorry."
"I don't accept it."
Joshua said, "It's my fault."
Ava crossed her arms and turned her head away. "I wouldn't dare. You have such a temper, yelling at me without getting the facts straight. When I say a few words back, suddenly it's my fault."
Ava couldn't be bothered with him and walked straight ahead.
Joshua quickly followed, completely losing his earlier arrogance, even being a bit careful as he grabbed her arm. "How about you hit me to let off steam, as long as you're not angry anymore."
Ava didn't expect that Joshua, who was always so high and mighty, would actually say something like this. That humble and careful tone made Ava's heart skip a beat.
The anger stuck in her chest immediately lessened quite a bit. She didn't say anything and just let him hold her hand as they walked forward.
Ava walked into Cleo's hospital room. Cleo was still sleeping, holding her favorite doll. Ursa sat beside her with her head propped on her hand, her eyelids trembling, but she still didn't dare close them.
Ava's heart softened. She walked over quietly and gently patted Ursa's shoulder, saying softly, "You should go back and rest. I'll stay here."
Ursa moved her tired body slightly and didn't argue with Ava. Her eyes fell on Joshua behind them, and she let out a soft sigh. "I'll head back first. You take good care of them. Don't worry about Finn, Dad's got him."
Ursa instructed.
Joshua said, "I know."
Ava sat down in the chair beside the hospital bed and gently stroked Cleo's little face.
Cleo's injuries had been healing well these past few days. In a few more days she could be discharged, but the psychological damage worried Ava deeply.
She felt both guilty and heartbroken. Cleo was still so young, yet she had experienced such a terrible thing. What a huge blow it must be to her little body and mind.
It was all her fault for not protecting her well enough.
Joshua noticed Ava's low mood and tightened his hand on her shoulder a bit. "Don't worry. Cleo's current condition is temporary. As long as she cooperates with psychological treatment, she'll get better soon."
Ava knew this, but she was still scared. Psychological issues take time to heal even for adults, let alone a child.
"Grandpa hired a psychologist for Cleo."
Ava nodded slightly. "Yes, I know. I heard her name is Thea. I hope she can cure Cleo."
Cleo was discharged five days later.
The early autumn sunlight felt warm on the body, no longer scorching hot, coating everything in a golden glow. It was a rare beautiful day.
Cleo, who had been hospitalized for more than ten days, was obviously tired of hospital life. She was very happy to be discharged, her pretty little face showing a long-lost smile.
"Mommy, Cleo." Finn happily rushed over and grabbed Cleo's hand.
Cleo didn't resist, but looking at Finn, she didn't show much emotion either.
"Mommy, why won't Cleo talk to me?"
Ava squatted down and gently ruffled Finn's hair. "Finn, Cleo's heart is hurt, so she doesn't want to talk. Finn needs to take extra good care of Cleo, okay?"
"Okay." Finn held Cleo's hand and nodded seriously. "Don't worry, Mommy. We'll help Cleo get better together."
Ava's nose tingled. "Okay."
Walking out of the hospital, Joshua's car had just pulled up. Joshua's tall, strong figure got out of the car. Looking at the mother and two children, his handsome face wore a smile as he walked over and took the things from Ava's hands. "Let's go."
"Okay."
Since Cleo was being discharged today, the Thomas family wanted Ava to bring Finn and Cleo to the Thomas Villa for dinner. This was reasonable, and Ava didn't refuse.
They arrived at the Thomas Villa.
Cleo was obviously new to this place. Everything felt unfamiliar to her, and her bright big eyes looked around curiously.
After entering the house, Victor saw Ava and Joshua return with Finn and Cleo and immediately showed a loving smile. "You're back."
Joshua said, "Yes."
Ava said, "Grandpa."
Finn said, "Hello, Great-grandpa."
Cleo still wouldn't speak.
Victor then lifted Finn and Cleo onto his lap, his aged face showing a smile he couldn't hide. Suddenly having two great-grandchildren, Victor was naturally overjoyed.
"Bring the gifts I prepared."
Victor instructed, and the butler immediately brought out the gifts Victor had prepared in advance and handed them to Ava.
"Ms. Davis, this is a small token from Mr. Victor Thomas for you, Mr. Finn Thomas, and Mrs. Cleo Thomas."
Ava looked in surprise at the several share transfer documents being handed to her. "Grandpa, these are too valuable. I can't accept them."
"Ava, you keep them. These are gifts for you and the children. If you don't accept them, you're not giving me face." Victor wouldn't let Ava refuse.
Ava was in a difficult position. These weren't just ordinary little gifts.
Five percent shares for Finn, five percent shares for Cleo, ten percent shares for her—holding these transfer documents in her hands, she could feel their heavy weight.
"Just take them. If you don't, he'll find every way possible to give them to you anyway." Joshua stood beside Ava and said.
Ava could only accept them.
"By the way, Ava, let me introduce someone to you in a bit." Victor was just saying this when a clear and gentle voice came through. "Grandpa."
Victor smiled pleasantly. "Look, Thea, come here."
Ava looked up, and a tall figure came into view.
Thea wore a suit dress, had a pretty face with light makeup that wasn't too heavy, and her smile was appropriate and polite. Every movement revealed nobility and elegance, mixed with a bit of girlish liveliness.
This person must be Thea from the Ellis family—the one Ava had heard about from almost everyone!
"Thea, long time no see." Victor smiled kindly. "Ava, this is Thea. She's Joshua's good friend who grew up with him, and she's also the psychologist treating Cleo."
Victor's tone of introduction was full of affection.
Clearly this person was quite loved by Victor.
Ava wore a faint smile as she greeted Thea. "Ms. Ellis, hello."
Thea's face showed an appropriate and gentle smile. "You must be Ms. Davis. Grandpa mentions you often. I finally get to meet you in person today. You're really beautiful. Ms. Davis, I'll just call you Ava directly, and you can just call me Thea."
Thea bent down and gently ruffled Finn and Cleo's hair. "You must be Finn and Cleo. You're so cute."
"Hello, Auntie." Finn politely greeted her.
"Hello there."
Cleo didn't like strangers touching her now. As soon as she was touched, her little face scrunched up and tears immediately fell. She wanted Ava to hold her.
Ava bent down to pick up Cleo, but Cleo had grown and gotten heavier, so she couldn't hold her for long. Joshua reached out and took Cleo from Ava's hands. "Let me hold her."
Cleo didn't resist Joshua much and stayed obediently in his arms.
Seeing this, Thea wasn't too embarrassed and continued smiling gently. "Ava, these are some small gifts I prepared for you and the two little ones. Please don't think they're not good enough."
A servant took the exquisite gift box from Thea's hands. Inside were a pair of delicate gold bracelets and a piece of full-color jade.
The gold bracelets were exquisitely crafted, inlaid with gems that sparkled brilliantly, incredibly beautiful.
The jade was crystal clear, flawless, and clearly very expensive.
