Chapter 30 CHAPTER 30
ZARA

There was a knock at my door and I told the person to come in. Fred came in with a file in his hand.

“Ma, I need you to sign these documents to complete the transaction between us and the artist. They are coming with the painting and I need to go and see them.” Fred explained and I saw the files in his hand.

“Okay. Let me have it” I said and Fred gave me the files. I signed them and gave it back to him.

“So how are you going to get there? I noticed you didn't bring your car?” I asked him.

“I will take the taxi” He replied and I frowned at his reply.

“They will charge you a high fee.” I said and calmed my tone a bit because I sounded angry. “Is it not close to a two hour drive?” I asked him and he nodded.

“It's ma.”

“Take my car key and go with my car.” I told him and he hesitated at first.

“Thank you so much ma.” Fred said and I gave her the car key.

“You are welcome.” I said and dismissed him before he would got there late.

I actually stayed in the office for a long time before deciding it's time to go home. It's already past 10pm and soon, the city will become dry and the blood sucking demon will be out to steal people's belongings today.

My phone rang as I made my way towards my car. I checked the caller ID and realised it was the same contact number I saw in the letter. I picked it up and pressed the phone to my ear.

“Hello” I said to the phone and unlocked my car door. I placed my back in first and sat down without turning on the engine.

“Hello, am I speaking with Miss Zara?” I heard the female voice ask over the phone.

“Yes.” I replied. “Oh, I just received your reply and sent you a message. I wasn't aware that you already replied to me.” I said with an apologetic face even though they can't see me right now.

“No ma’am. We should be the one apologising for disturbing you. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.” I heard her say it and I smiled . I was the one who informed them about my wedding.

“Thank you. I appreciate the kind words.” I said and put the phone on speaker before driving out.

“But the problem is, we would love to see you before the wedding. We don't wish to reach out to any other person except you. Our president will be back in a month and I am afraid she will be pissed if she realised we haven't signed any contract with you yet.” The girl said in a pleading tone.

I think I understand her perfectly. It's all because of the fact that she is an employee and her fate might actually depend on me. I guess I have to create time for them.

“Oh, I understand. I think I will love to create time tomorrow and see you.” I said and I could picture her face as she replied with enthusiasm.

“Thank you so much Ma’am. We will forward the address to you and you are free to come with your lawyer.” She said and I ended the call.

I turned on the music and continued to listen to music. I will do my research about the company before going tomorrow.

When I got home, Father and mother were in the sitting room watching a movie. I walked in and stopped in front of them to greet them.

“Father. Good evening” I said and he finally looked up as if he didn't notice my presence in the first place.

“So it's true what your mother told me? You are now going to disobey her because she is not your mother right?” Father asked and I swallowed.

“Honey, I told you to let her be. She is angry because of what happened. I am sure that when she wakes up tomorrow, she will feel better.” Agnes said and if a third party should be here, they will think I am the one treating her badly because she is not my mother.

At first, I didn't want to talk but seeing the way she is acting as if she is doing me a favour, I think I need to set the boundary now.

“She was never my mother in the first place. Why make it sound like she is doing me a favour?” I asked Father and his emotions changed immediately.

Father stood up and slapped me across the face. I didn't cry. I didn't run away either. In fact, I was expecting another one.

He knew I had an accident last night. He knew I just got discharged today and yet he hit me. He fucking hit me.

“What did you say?” He asked and I took a step back.

Agnes looked at me confidently, thinking she won, that is one thing I will never let her have.

“I said she doesn't deserve to be called my mother. She never was and she never will.” Father raised his hand again to slap me but Agnes held his hand and shed Crocodile tears.

“You…you are going to hurt her. She is still my child.” Agnes said and I laughed like a maniac.

“Anyone would definitely think you pity me but you are the worst woman I would ever come across. That is why I am glad you are not my daughter.,” I said with venom in my tone.

“Each time I remember a woman like you is not my mother, my joy always knew no bounds. I think I love the fact that you are…” I couldn't complete my statement because father hit my face for the second time today and my face becomes blurry
