Chapter 268: Emily's Affair
Emily looked at Kismet's twisted expression, feeling a surge of disgust. She had once felt a trace of sympathy for this woman, but now, even that was gone.
But she also felt relieved.
Finally, Kismet had dropped the act. Emily was tired of watching her perform every day. She much preferred this kind of honest conversation.
"Ms. Vaughn, let me give you some advice too. Stop harassing me, and stop pestering Charles. Otherwise, don't blame me for not being polite."
"Are you threatening me?"
"Not threatening. Warning. If you dare hurt my family or my children, I'll make you pay the price."
At the mention of children, Kismet's expression grew even more contorted. "Children? Emily, do you really think your children will stay by your side? Great-uncle has already said he'll keep all three children at Windsor Manor, with me raising them! From now on, they'll be my children!"
"In your dreams. My children will always be my children. No one can take them away from me."
Kismet laughed mockingly. "Really? Then we'll see about that. Let's see who gets the last laugh."
With that, she turned to leave.
"Wait." Emily called out.
Kismet turned back. "What? Something else?"
Emily walked up to her, looking directly into her eyes, speaking each word clearly: "Kismet, listen carefully. Charles loves me deeply. He's the one who can't leave me, not the other way around. Last night, he was the one who publicly announced me as his fiancée. All of this was his initiative. So please get it straight—I'm not clinging to him, he's clinging to me."
She paused, then continued: "Also, I don't care about the Windsor family's opinions. All I care about is Charles's heart. As long as his heart is with me, I won't leave him. As for you..."
Emily smiled slightly, her smile carrying a hint of mockery: "You'll always be just an assistant, someone whose unrequited love will never be returned. Kismet, you're truly pitiful."
"You!" Kismet trembled with rage, raising her hand to slap Emily.
But Emily was faster, grabbing her wrist.
"Ms. Vaughn, this is my company. Please mind your behavior. Otherwise, I don't mind having security throw you out."
Kismet glared at Emily with hatred in her eyes. But she knew that getting physical here wouldn't benefit her.
She jerked her hand away from Emily's grip, saying through gritted teeth: "Emily, you just wait! I won't let you get away with this!"
Kismet was shaking with anger and about to turn and leave when suddenly a soft "thud" came from the inner room, like something had fallen to the floor.
Her ears immediately perked up, suspicion flashing in her eyes.
Kismet spun around, staring at the door to the inner room. "What was that sound? Emily, is someone in there?"
Emily of course knew it was Emma who had accidentally made the noise. But what business was that of Kismet's? Besides, Emma really disliked Kismet now. It was better not to let Emma see her, to avoid affecting the child's mood.
"My office, whether there's anyone here or not, what's it to you?"
"Is Charles in there?"
Emily was amused by Kismet's wild imagination. A thought suddenly struck her—she had an idea. She didn't say anything, just looked at the door with hesitation.
She really wanted to hear what Kismet would guess.
Kismet seemed convinced that Charles was in the inner room, eavesdropping on their conversation. This had to be Emily's scheme!
She was deliberately provoking her, making her say harsh things, so Charles would be disappointed in her and completely abandon her.
No way!
She couldn't let Charles misunderstand her. She had to explain things to Charles!
Kismet shouted toward the inner room: "Charles, come out! I know you're in there! Don't listen to Emily's nonsense! She's deliberately trying to anger me, to make you misunderstand me!"
There was no response from the inner room.
Emily maintained that subtle expression, neither confirming nor denying.
Kismet became even more certain. She walked to the door of the inner room, reaching out to push it open: "Charles, come out! Let's talk this through!"
Just then, Kismet's phone suddenly rang.
She impatiently pulled out her phone, saw it was the secretary from Windsor Group's executive office, frowned, but still answered.
"What is it?" Her tone was harsh.
A cautious voice came from the other end: "Ms. Vaughn, Mr. Windsor just returned to his office. He says there are important documents that need your immediate attention."
Kismet froze: "What did you say? Mr. Windsor is at the office?"
"Yes, Mr. Windsor came back five minutes ago and is now waiting for you in his office."
Kismet's expression changed instantly. She hung up the phone, turned to look at Emily, her eyes filled with shock and anger.
Charles was at the office?
Then who was in the inner room?
Looking at Emily's "guilty" appearance, she suddenly understood something.
Kismet seemed to have caught something incriminating. A triumphant smile appeared on her face: "Emily, you wouldn't happen to be hiding a man in there, would you? The moment Charles isn't at Windsor Group, you can't control your urges and you're here having an affair behind his back!"
Emily deliberately put on a stern face: "Ms. Vaughn, please watch your language. My office is not a place for your wild accusations."
Kismet sneered coldly: "Whether they're wild accusations or not, let me go in and see for myself!"
With that, she tried to rush inside.
Emily immediately blocked her way: "Stop! This is my office. Without my permission, no one can go in!"
Kismet became even more convinced there was someone inside: "What? Feeling guilty? Emily, you really are having an affair! I'm going to tell Charles, let him see your true colors!"
Emily laughed inwardly but maintained her serious expression: "Kismet, stop talking nonsense! There's nothing in there!"
Kismet pressed aggressively: "If there's nothing, then why won't you let me go in and see? Emily, you're hiding a man in there! You shameless woman, seducing Charles on one hand while cheating on the other! I'm going to expose you! Let everyone know your true nature!"
Emily deliberately acted nervous: "You... don't talk nonsense!"
Seeing Emily's "nervous" reaction, Kismet became even more triumphant: "If you let me in now, I might still give you some face. Otherwise, I'll shout it out loud and let everyone in the company know that their boss is having an affair in her office!"
Emily bit her lip, looking troubled: "You... don't go too far!"
