Chapter 225 I Despise You
"You're going to deny it? Charles, I truly despise you! That ruby necklace—wasn't it something you bought for Kismet? You two grew up together, and the Windsor family elders are all hoping you'll end up together! So why are you even here, bothering with me? Go find your precious Kismet!"
Charles finally understood—Emily had misunderstood about the necklace.
His jealousy was instantly replaced by panic. He quickly pulled out the elegant jewelry box from his pocket, opened it, and held the ruby necklace out to Emily. "Emily, you've got it all wrong! I bought this necklace specifically for you. Kismet only came to the auction with me because I wanted her opinion as a consultant..."
Before he could finish explaining, Emily looked at the necklace, and her anger only intensified.
Wasn't this the same one Kismet had been wearing? Was Charles now giving her someone else's cast-offs, something another woman had already worn? She swept the jewelry box away with her hand, sending the necklace crashing to the floor. The sound of precious stones hitting the ground echoed harshly in the small room.
"Charles, I told you I don't care! If you want to give gifts, give them to Kismet. Don't try to placate me with something another woman has already touched!"
Charles stared at the necklace on the floor, then at Emily's red-rimmed eyes and furious expression, his heart sinking. He'd never seen Emily this angry—angry enough to throw away a gift he'd carefully chosen for her.
A thought flashed through his mind: something else must have happened between Emily and Kismet that he didn't know about.
"Emily, I'm sorry. I didn't think this through properly. Tell me, what else did Kismet say to you? Don't be angry, whatever it is, we'll handle it together, okay?"
"I don't want to talk to you!" Emily turned away, unable to look at him. "I just want to be alone right now. Charles, leave!"
Her mind was still filled with images of Kismet's smug bragging. She had no patience for Charles's explanations.
Seeing her resolute rejection, Charles knew that pressing the issue would only make things worse. He could only say helplessly, "Then get some rest. Call me if you need anything—anytime."
After speaking, he took one last long look at Emily before picking up his jacket and quietly leaving the room.
Once outside the training camp, Charles immediately pulled out his phone. "Nathan, I want you to investigate Kismet immediately! Starting from when she picked up the necklace at the auction house—I want every minute of her movements tracked. Who did she see, what did she say, and what she said and did to Emily at this training camp. I want every word reported back to me! I want results before dawn!"
Nathan was startled by Charles's tone and quickly agreed. "Yes, Mr. Windsor. I'll start investigating immediately and have a full report before sunrise!"
After hanging up, Charles sat in his car, gripping the steering wheel tightly. He stared in the direction of the training camp, his eyes full of regret and anger.
He never imagined that his moment of carelessness would allow Kismet to hurt Emily. If he hadn't been worried enough to drive to the training camp in the middle of the night, who knew how much more Emily would have suffered.
Within hours, Nathan called back. "Mr. Windsor, I've found everything. After taking the necklace from the auction house, Kismet didn't return directly to the Windsor Group. Instead, she went to the training camp first, wore the necklace to see Mrs. Windsor, and told her that you had specifically bought it for her. She even mentioned how you two grew up together and that the Windsor family elders approved of her, deliberately trying to provoke Mrs. Windsor. Additionally, we discovered she secretly paid Zoey to deliberately target Mrs. Windsor during wilderness training—she even wanted Zoey to arrange an 'accident' in the forest."
Nathan's words cut into Charles's heart like knives. He'd thought Kismet had simply acted impulsively, but she'd actually plotted deliberately—using the necklace he'd bought for Emily to show off, and even planning to harm Emily!
"I see. Very well. Kismet certainly has some nerve pulling these stunts. She's gone too far."
Kismet was someone Ollie had personally groomed, having worked closely with him for years. Would she really dare to act this way on her own initiative? More likely, Ollie had given his tacit approval or even direct orders.
Ollie had always disapproved of his relationship with Emily and had repeatedly tried to push him toward Kismet. This incident was probably Ollie's way of trying to drive Emily away and force Charles to comply with his arrangements.
Years of suppressed rage exploded in Charles's chest.
As his great-uncle, Ollie had been interfering in his life for years under the guise of being an elder—meddling in everything from company decisions to personal relationships. Charles had endured it time and again, but this time Ollie had targeted Emily and even tried to harm her. That was absolutely unforgivable!
"Nathan, keep watching Kismet for now, but don't tip our hand. Starting today, I also want you to secretly compile a list of Ollie's faction within the company, along with evidence of how he's abused his position to misappropriate company resources over the years. The more detailed, the better."
Nathan paused, realizing Charles's intent, and felt a shock of understanding. "Mr. Windsor, are you planning to..."
"It's time. Ollie has been hanging over my head for too long. I've had enough. This time, he hurt Emily, so he can't blame me for not showing family ties. This revolution needs to begin."
Though Nathan was shocked, he immediately agreed. "Yes, Mr. Windsor. I understand exactly what needs to be done. I won't disappoint you."
Having worked with Charles for years, he'd long been frustrated with Ollie's tyrannical behavior. Now that Charles had finally decided to fight back, Nathan would give his full support.
After hanging up, Charles gazed toward the training camp.
If he hadn't been so careless, giving Ollie the opportunity to strike, Emily wouldn't have suffered so much. He silently vowed that this time he would not only completely break free from Ollie's control but also make Kismet pay for her actions and give Emily and the children a secure future.
Meanwhile, inside the training camp, Sean found Zoey.
"Zoey, I'm warning you—stay away from Emily from now on. Don't you dare give her any more trouble, or I won't be so polite about it!"
Seeing Sean's fury, Zoey felt intimidated. She'd had feelings for Sean for years and had always obeyed him. She wouldn't dare defy him now.
Besides, the Martin family held considerable influence in political circles—she couldn't afford to offend them.
"Sean, I understand. I'll never do it again. Please don't be angry, okay?"
Sean gave her a cold look. "You'd better mean it. If I hear about you doing anything harmful to Emily again, you know what the consequences will be."
With that, he turned and walked away, leaving Zoey standing alone, her face grim with resentment. Though unwilling to back down, she could only obey and wouldn't dare trouble Emily again.
(I highly recommend a captivating book that I couldn't put down for three days and nights. It's incredibly engaging and a must-read. The title of the book is "Single Mom: My Ex Loved Me" and the author's name is Harper. You can find it by searching in the search bar.
