Chapter 219 Stirring Up Trouble at the Training Camp
Charles didn't want to waste any more words with her, but then he worried that if she went back like this, she might say things to Ollie that shouldn't be said. Rather than let that happen, it would be better to keep Kismet by his side, giving her some unimportant tasks to do—essentially keeping her under surveillance.
For some reason, he always felt that seeing Kismet this time, something seemed different about her compared to before.
He said to Kismet, "Since you're so eager to find something to do, help me with one thing. That ruby necklace from the auction seems like it hasn't been delivered yet. Could you make the trip to pick it up? Once you get it back, just put it directly in my office."
Kismet's heart stirred, and her face immediately broke into a smile. "Of course, Charles. I'll go right away."
Of course, the necklace hadn't been delivered because she had already picked it up long ago and kept it for herself, specifically to prevent Charles from giving it to Emily before she left for training camp.
Now that Charles was asking her to retrieve it, it was perfect for her plans.
After leaving Windsor Group, Kismet didn't go to the auction house. Instead, she drove around downtown, leisurely had a cup of coffee, and only then strolled back to Windsor Group.
"Charles, I'm so sorry. I went to the auction house and they said the paperwork for that necklace isn't complete yet—they need a few more days before it can be released," Kismet said while carefully watching Charles' expression, afraid he might see through her lie. "I told them several times that you were the one requesting it, but they refused to make an exception, saying procedures can't be bypassed."
Charles looked up, his brow furrowing almost imperceptibly.
He'd bought plenty of items from auctions before, and the auction house had always been able to complete transfer procedures the same day. Why would it take several days this time? But seeing Kismet's earnest expression, and considering that auction houses occasionally did have procedural delays, he didn't think much of it and simply nodded. "Got it. Pick it up once the paperwork is ready."
"Of course, Charles. I'll let you know as soon as I hear anything." Kismet secretly breathed a sigh of relief, though her face maintained its obedient smile as she left the office.
The moment she stepped out of Windsor Tower, she pulled that pigeon blood ruby necklace from her bag and carefully fastened it around her neck. The cool gems against her skin made her heart burn with inexplicable satisfaction.
She pulled out her phone and dialed the training camp security. "This is Kismet. I need to visit the training camp this afternoon to bring Zoey some things. Could you register me for entry?"
The guard on the other end immediately responded respectfully, "Ms. Vaughn, don't worry. We'll register you right away."
Everyone knew that Kismet had once trained at the camp and was personally mentored by Ollie, giving her an elevated status there. There were even rumors that Kismet would be Charles' future wife, so all the instructors treated her with respect. Since Zoey used to be her follower, no one would dare stop Kismet from visiting her.
Her car smoothly entered the training camp, and Kismet parked directly under the women's dormitory. As soon as she got out, she saw Zoey hurrying over with an eager expression. "Kismet, what brings you here?"
She had benefited plenty from following Kismet around before, so naturally, she was especially enthusiastic seeing her now.
But this enthusiasm didn't last long. Zoey's smile crumpled as she complained bitterly, "Kismet, you have no idea how annoying Emily is! Ever since she arrived, Sean's had all his attention on her and won't even look at me! Last time I brought him soup, he immediately gave it to someone else, but he's constantly fussing over Emily—it's driving me crazy!"
Kismet casually raised her hand to adjust her collar, letting the ruby necklace catch the sunlight with a brilliant sparkle. Her tone carried a note of shared suffering. "I understand how you feel. Charles used to be very attentive to me, too, but the moment Emily showed up, I became invisible to him. Look at this necklace, Charles specifically bid on it at the auction. At the time, I even mentioned how the color suited me, and I thought he was buying it for me, but now..."
She deliberately left the sentence hanging, looking at Zoey with wounded eyes. Any reasonable person would assume Emily had stolen Kismet's necklace.
Zoey's gaze was immediately drawn to the necklace, her eyes widening.
Such an expensive necklace should only be worn by someone of Kismet's status. What right did Emily, that homewrecker, have to it?
It was clear Emily was a bitch, stealing Kismet's man outside and stealing her man inside the training camp.
She just couldn't behave herself anywhere!
Hearing Zoey's harsh words about Emily, Kismet's eyes flashed with secret delight. It seemed Zoey disliked Emily, too, which would make things much easier.
She didn't need to target Emily directly—Zoey could do some of that work for her.
Kismet immediately put on a pitiful expression, raising her hand to dab at the corner of her eye, her voice catching slightly. "Zoey, you finally understand. Charles used to tell me wherever he was going, and he'd always think of me first when he had something nice. But ever since Emily appeared, I've become nothing to him. At this auction, I clearly told him I loved this necklace, and he smiled and said he'd consider it, but now..."
She deliberately paused, her fingertips stroking the edge of the necklace, her voice full of hurt. "Sometimes I wonder if I did something wrong to make Charles change his heart."
These vulnerable words immediately struck Zoey's own pain. Wasn't she in the same situation, pouring her heart out for Sean, only to be upstaged by Emily?
Zoey immediately thumped her chest. "Kismet, this isn't your fault at all! It's all Emily's doing! Don't worry, I know plenty of people at this training camp. I'll definitely teach her a lesson and make sure she fails her evaluation so she'll get out of here! She can't be allowed to keep clinging to Mr. Windsor, and she can't steal my Sean!"
This was exactly what Kismet wanted to hear. She gently patted Zoey's shoulder. "Thank you. Just don't be too impulsive and give people ammunition against you. After all, Emily is someone Charles cares about now—if he found out, he might blame you." While saying this, she deliberately emphasized that Charles cared about Emily, both appearing magnanimous while further stoking Zoey's jealousy.
Zoey was indeed provoked, gritting her teeth. "Don't worry, Kismet. I know what I'm doing!"
Kismet was secretly elated, though her face still showed concern. "Just promise me you won't provoke her. She..."
"Kismet, don't worry about it. I've got this handled."
Seeing the vicious look in Zoey's eyes, Kismet knew she'd found the right person.
