Chapter 89: The Seer’s Vision
The tension had only deepened since the healer’s revelation. The weight of Isla’s pregnancy, the uncertainty about her bloodline, and the ever-present threat of Vincent had created a storm of thoughts that no one could escape. As Isla sat in the quiet of the room, reflecting on the words the healer had shared, a strange, unsettling feeling crept over her. Something was shifting inside of her, something she couldn't fully grasp, but she knew that it was no longer just about her anymore, it was about the future.
At that moment, the door creaked open, and Lucia stepped in, her face drawn with worry. Her eyes locked on Isla, a silent question in the air between them.
“Isla,” Lucia began softly, “there’s someone here. A seer. She’s… come with answers, perhaps more than we expected.”
Isla stood quickly, heart pounding. “A seer? I thought we were done with this… the cryptic answers, the mysteries. What could she possibly know?”
Lucia glanced over her shoulder, a flicker of doubt in her eyes. “I’m not sure. But Rohen believes she might have insight into your bloodline, and we need to understand what’s happening to you and the child. She claims to know things about the past, about the golden-eyed wolves.”
Isla felt the hairs on the back of her neck rise. “I don’t want anyone poking into my past, Lucia. I’ve had enough of secrets.”
Lucia stepped closer, her voice gentle. “Isla, we need to know what we’re up against. For you, for your child. If this is about your lineage, we can’t afford to ignore it.”
Rohen entered then, his expression serious. “She’s here. She insists that she can help, but you’ll have to trust her, Isla. I know it’s hard, but we can’t do this alone.”
Isla hesitated, her eyes scanning the faces of those around her. They were all there, concerned, yet no one had the answers they so desperately needed. Finally, with a deep sigh, she nodded. “Fine. Bring her in.”
The room fell silent as the seer entered, her presence like a dark cloud that seemed to shift with every movement. She was cloaked in flowing robes, her silver hair cascading down her back like moonlight. Her eyes, however, were what held Isla’s attention, pale, almost translucent, and glowing faintly in the dim light.
“You’ve been waiting,” the seer’s voice echoed in the room, soft but piercing. “You’ve felt the change, haven’t you?”
Isla stiffened. “What do you know about me?”
The seer smiled faintly, her eyes narrowing as she studied Isla with an unsettling intensity. “More than you realize. Your bloodline is ancient, bound to forces far beyond your comprehension. It has awakened in you, but it is also… changing you.”
Isla felt her pulse quicken. “What do you mean, changing?”
The seer stepped closer, reaching out a delicate hand, her fingers brushing the air just above Isla’s belly. “The child inside you carries the potential of a power you cannot yet grasp. But be warned… the blood you carry will not be easily tamed. It will demand something in return.”
Isla recoiled slightly. “What do you mean by ‘demand something in return’?”
The seer’s gaze softened. “The child will grow strong. Stronger than even you know. But the cost will not be without consequence.”
A chill ran down Isla’s spine. “What cost?”
The seer paused, her eyes flickering toward the door where Rohen, Lucia, and the others stood. “There are dark forces at play, Isla. Forces that have been watching your bloodline for centuries. Vincent is not the only one who seeks you out. Others… more dangerous, more ancient, have begun to stir.”
Rohen took a step forward. “How can we protect the baby and Isla, if this power is truly awakening inside her?”
The seer turned her gaze to him, her eyes sharp with a knowing look. “There is no protection against what is coming. But there are those who might help. The key lies in understanding your blood, Isla, and what it’s tied to. The child must be born and you both must be trained. Only then will you be able to control what lies within you.”
Before Isla could ask another question, Raven entered, her voice low but determined. “I’ll go with you. I’ll help search for more answers about the bloodline. If this is truly what I think it is, then I’ll make sure we find what’s necessary to protect Isla and her child.”
Silas stood behind her, his expression conflicted but resolute. “I’ll go with Raven. The old texts might hold the key to what the seer spoke of. We need to uncover every piece of this puzzle if we’re going to survive what’s coming. Even though our last trip did prove fruitful we weren’t able to access the interior before it all came down on us.”
The seer nodded slowly, as though approving of their commitment. “Very well. But remember, this journey will not be easy. The bloodline you seek to understand is powerful, and those who wish to control it will stop at nothing to possess it. Proceed with caution.”
As the group began to prepare for their search, Isla felt a sense of unease settle deeper within her. She had never felt more out of control in her life, but the pull of destiny was undeniable. The lines of fate had already been drawn. There was no turning back now.
The days that followed were filled with tension and uncertainty. Raven and Silas left on their quest to find more answers about Isla’s bloodline, while the rest of the group remained behind to fortify the fortress and prepare for whatever might come.
As night fell, Isla found herself walking alone in the garden again, the weight of everything pressing heavily on her chest. Her thoughts kept drifting back to the seer’s words, and a lingering feeling of dread settled over her. She was no longer just carrying a child. She was carrying something much more dangerous.
“Isla,” a familiar voice called, pulling her from her thoughts.
She turned to see Rohen standing at the edge of the garden, his silhouette framed by the moonlight.
“Are you alright?” he asked quietly, his gaze softer than she had seen it before.
Isla hesitated, but then shook her head. “No, not really. I don’t know what to do with all of this.”
Rohen stepped closer, his expression unreadable. “You don’t have to have all the answers. You don’t have to face it alone.”
She met his gaze, her heart heavy with the weight of her burden. “I wish I didn’t have to face any of this at all.”
He reached out, his hand gently resting on her shoulder. “But you will and I’ll be here, we all will, no matter what.”
Isla looked into his eyes, feeling the weight of his words, and for a moment, she allowed herself to believe that maybe, just maybe, they could survive whatever was to come.
But as she looked out at the horizon, she couldn’t shake the feeling that the storm was just recoiling. The darkness was closing in and soon, it would be impossible to outrun.
