Chapter 180: The Ending
Chapter 180: The Ending
The Montgomery Group.
Astrid narrowed her eyes slightly, forcing herself to stay calm as she asked softly, "Has he been like this every day lately?"
"I'm asking you a question. Answer me." Calista was already getting angry.
"No, no, Mr. Montgomery just started a new project abroad. Because of the time difference, he's been working late every night. Today, he just left early to go home." Jeffrey sensed something was off and quickly explained.
"What do you mean?" Astrid thought she'd misheard, yet hoped she hadn't.
"Mr. Montgomery went home." Jeffrey was even more confused.
Usually, Silas loved showing off their relationship. He'd been too busy lately to do that, but surely things hadn't gotten bad between him and Astrid so quickly?
Otherwise, why would Astrid ask such a question?
But since Astrid didn't say anything, he couldn't ask directly.
"You're lying. We just came from the villa, and Mr. Montgomery never went home." Calista knew Astrid was hurting right now.
Jeffrey was Silas's secretary, so of course, he'd cover for him. These men were all the same as Dean.
While Astrid was too upset to speak, Calista would interrogate him for her.
"What?" Jeffrey was confused again. That's what Silas told him when he left. As an employee, he couldn't read minds - he had no idea what was really going on.
The atmosphere became increasingly tense.
Just as Jeffrey felt like Astrid and Calista were about to tear him apart, someone entered the office.
Silas was still wearing the same black custom suit from this morning. He held a ring in his hand and, without saying anything, dropped to one knee.
His long, narrow eyes sparkled like stars as he looked at Astrid, his voice rich and deep like a cello.
"Astrid, marry me."
Everyone, including Astrid, was shocked.
They were already married with a marriage certificate. What was he doing now?
Despite her confusion, Astrid felt sweetness in her heart. After all, when they got their marriage certificate, they hadn't had a proper proposal or wedding like normal couples.
So aside from their families, almost no one knew they were married.
The office door was wide open, and everyone from the secretarial area and people who'd come upstairs on business were watching.
Calista nudged the stunned Astrid with her shoulder. "In front of all these people - he's serious, right? We can trust this, can't we?"
"Astrid, please marry me." Not getting her answer, Silas's voice carried a hint of emotion and humility. His eyes fixed on Astrid as if she'd run away the moment he blinked.
"Yes." Tears welling in her eyes, Astrid spoke the word.
Warm applause erupted from outside the office.
Silas slipped the ring on Astrid's finger and pulled her into his arms. With so many people watching, she shyly tried to hide against him.
Just then, Silas's phone rang. After reading the message, he took her hand and headed out.
"Come with me somewhere."
Jeffrey watched Silas and Astrid leave sweetly and gave Calista a smug snort.
Knowing she was in the wrong, Calista didn't stick around and left, too.
Silas took Astrid to a bridal design center filled with beautiful wedding dresses and gowns.
"I've already had someone pick wedding dates. Today, we'll look at the venue design and schedule. If you get tired, you can rest on the side. We'll try on dresses when they arrive." Silas explained.
"So soon?" Astrid looked at him in disbelief. "Isn't this too rushed?"
Silas gripped her hand tighter.
"If you hadn't been hesitating before, I would've held the wedding already. The staff have been ready to work overtime at any moment. You don't need to worry about any of this - I'll arrange everything." Silas's gaze on Astrid grew more intense.
She knew what that meant.
"Besides, if we wait too long, it won't be comfortable for you." Silas's voice softened as he said this.
Astrid raised an eyebrow and asked in surprise, "How did you know? Did you really go home just now?"
She'd kept the hospital test results in a small pocket in her bag. She hadn't figured out how to tell Silas yet, or even whether she should keep the baby.
So she'd carefully hidden the results.
The bag had been with her these past few days, but when Calista rushed her away earlier, she only realized she'd forgotten it after they arrived at the Montgomery Group.
"If I hadn't discovered it by accident, how long were you planning to hide it?" Silas held her hand and gently kissed the back of it. "Were you planning to run away with my child?"
Astrid lowered her head, avoiding his gaze, though her face flushed pink.
Before this, she had been hesitant, had thought about giving up. But every time she thought that way, his face would appear in her mind.
Now, she didn't need to struggle anymore.
"No," Astrid answered softly.
"Mr. Montgomery, the wedding dress you designed has arrived. Would you two like to take a look?" A staff member prompted from the side.
"You designed it?" Astrid felt like she'd been hit with so many surprises from Silas today that her head was spinning.
"Yes, Mr. Montgomery notified us two months ago. To handmake the wedding dress, a hundred of us worked overtime for a month and a half to finish it." The staff member enthusiastically added a few more words.
Hearing this, Astrid's heart grew softer and softer.
They were already married, yet only now did they have the feeling of a couple in love.
This feeling was wonderful, unique, and utterly intoxicating.
After trying on the wedding dress, Astrid looked at herself in the mirror - so beautiful. She couldn't help but think again that whatever Silas did, he did it perfectly.
The staff's compliments didn't stop from the moment they arrived until they left.
After learning Astrid was pregnant, Silas postponed all his work for a week. He took her to the hospital for another checkup and called in interior designers to design children's rooms based on both boys' and girls' preferences.
Astrid didn't need to worry about anything. Every day, she watched Silas moving around, arranging everything perfectly.
One month later.
Silas held the wedding. The venue was decorated with extreme luxury and precision.
The guests included not only business elites from Cypress Bay, but also many political leaders.
While Astrid was resting in the lounge, she suddenly had someone call Silas back. Her hand on her belly, she called to him excitedly.
"Honey, I felt it - the baby seems to be moving inside!"
Silas quickly bent down, pressing against her belly with excitement and care, listening carefully before speaking.
"Don't bully your mom, or I'll teach you a lesson when you're born."
