Chapter 166 : Let's Have a Child

Chapter 166 Let's Have a Child

On the way back, Astrid stared out the window in a daze.

While driving, Silas kept watching her.

Her phone had been quiet for several days.

Oliver had finally stopped harassing Astrid like a crazy person.

The corners of Silas's eyes couldn't help but curve down slightly.

No one knew how anxious he had been those past few days. Although he knew Astrid couldn't possibly fall for that jerk Oliver, they had been together for three years after all.

Thinking about missing out on three years with Astrid, his heart felt stuffy and uncomfortable.

As the car passed through a busy area, he spoke up, his voice deep and rich, asking,

"We didn't get to eat at the wedding. You must be hungry, right?"

Astrid's face showed neither sadness nor joy. She shifted her gaze from the side window to the front of the car and shook her head gently.

Silas drove on, his fingertips lightly tapping the steering wheel. After a while, he said,

"I'm hungry."

"Should we go get something to eat?"

Silas's deep, narrow eyes lit up, looking at her expectantly like a pet dog seeking its owner's approval.

Astrid nodded without changing her expression.

Seeing her agree, Silas smiled slightly.

This was a famous restaurant in Cypress Bay, known for its nice atmosphere and creative dishes.

When they reached the parking lot, Silas handed the keys to the valet, walked around to the passenger side, opened the door for Astrid, and took her hand as they walked into the restaurant.

"Hello, Mr. Montgomery. Your room has been reserved for you." The staff recognized Silas and enthusiastically led the way.

The elegant private room offered a view of the Cypress Bay river and the beautiful, bustling buildings on both sides.

Places like this rarely had availability.

The staff pulled out a chair, but Silas also pulled out a chair, gesturing to Astrid, "Sit here."

Then Silas sat down next to her, took the menu, and placed it in front of Astrid.

"See what you'd like to eat."

"You order. I'm fine with anything." Astrid's eyes swept over the menu, but none of the dishes appealed to her.

Silas took back the menu, ordered a few items, and the staff closed the door and left.

"It's raining." Astrid looked at the raindrops hitting the window, quickly forming lines. The view outside became hazy with mist, turning somewhat blurry.

She didn't notice when all the dishes arrived.

Silas took a phone call, then turned back to see her face growing darker. He grabbed her hand and held it in his palm.

Feeling the burning warmth from his palm, tears burst from Astrid's eyes, and her body couldn't help but lean into his embrace.

It started as silent sobbing, then her shoulders began to shake slightly.

The tears wouldn't stop. Astrid kept wiping them away, but more kept coming.

"Astrid," Silas called out her name with heartache.

Astrid buried her face in his chest, letting the sadness run wild. The emotions she had suppressed these past days were like a broken dam, flooding out with force.

Garth's sudden death had left her whole world shrouded in darkness. Facing the schemes of Autumn, Rolf, and others, she had forced herself to stay strong.

No one knew that her mental defenses had already collapsed.

Facing those unfair treatments and baseless accusations, she was so fragile, at everyone's mercy.

She didn't want to be like this, but she had no choice.

Whenever it was late at night, thinking about how Garth, who cared for her as Lillian did, would never come back, her eyes would become empty, and her body would feel heavy.

Even when Isabella made that scene at the wedding, she barely had any emotional reaction.

Arthur and Catherine stood by Isabella's side, watching her nervously with fear.

Watching the three of them together as a family, a chill spread from Astrid's feet through her entire body.

In this warm private room, she didn't know why she could no longer control her emotions.

"Astrid," Silas called softly again, holding her in his arms, not knowing what to do.

"I feel so much pain inside." Astrid sobbed out these words, then couldn't make any more sounds.

Only when Astrid had cried herself tired, her body soft against him, did Silas gently move his stiff body.

The table full of delicious food remained untouched.

All these days, she had been so quiet, but she had been suppressing her emotions all along.

"Let's go home." Without waiting for her response, Silas picked her up and carried her out under everyone's gaze, his expression calm and composed.

Diamond Ridge Estates.

Silas carried her out of the car and upstairs.

"Let's have a child." Astrid's hands circled Silas's waist, her voice muffled with a nasal tone.

"Silas, maybe if we have a child, I won't feel so lonely."

Silas's arms holding her suddenly tightened.

"Have you thought this through?" Silas's voice was hoarse.

Astrid didn't say anything more.

Silas lowered his head, kissing slowly down from her cheek.

Her tears tasted salty, her lips were a bit cold, and her body was somewhat tense.

Under Silas's initiative, she soon responded.

Their clothes quickly scattered across the floor, and the intimate atmosphere lingered in the room for a long time.

Only when Astrid was exhausted, lying on the bed as soft as water, unable to even lift her hands, did Silas finally let her go.

As dawn broke, Silas didn't sleep long before leaving for work.

Astrid slept until the afternoon. Finding no one beside her, she vaguely remembered Silas kissing her forehead before leaving.

While she was still dazed, the phone rang.

Someone from the dark web told her that the black gang's place of origin abroad and the city where Lillian studied were the same, purely by coincidence.

According to their information, Lillian had indeed died of illness.

Before her death, she hadn't shown any unusual behavior.

"Besides my mother, what about my father? Have you found anything?" Astrid asked, unwilling to give up.

"Sorry, no." The other party answered quickly and directly.

Astrid put down her phone dejectedly, her mind racing with thoughts.

Could it be that Lillian really reconnected with Arthur and Catherine years later, and that's why she couldn't let it go, worried herself sick, leading to her declining health?

But from the images in those old belongings and from her memories, Lillian wasn't that kind of person.

She loved humming tunes while tending to flowers and plants, dancing with Arthur when she was happy. Astrid still remembered how Lillian often took her to amusement parks when she was little.

Lillian had been so bright and cheerful, loving life. How could she have died in depression?

Astrid thought again about that gemstone and Byron, whose behavior was also suspicious. Could someone be deliberately covering something up?

Where was that gemstone?
