Epilogue
Eight Months Later Iris was at Hugh's house, watching a movie with him when he suddenly got down on one knee and opened a small black box in front of her. Iris's hands flew to her face and she gasped. A small diamond ring rested in the box. Iris's eyes pooled with tears.
Hugh flashed his usual beautiful smile and said, "Iris, I don't imagine my life without you. There's not even a single day that goes by without thinking of you. You are there when I'm working in the factory, you are there when I'm peacefully sitting at home watching a movie, you are everywhere. I can’t see you going back home after spending only a few hours with me. It really hurts when you have to leave. Now I want you with me in this house, as my Queen. I want you as my wife. I want you for eternity."
Iris buried her face in her palms and sobbed.
"Iris?" Hugh said softly. Iris looked up at him with red eyes. Her fingers curled on her lips.
Hugh exhaled keeping up his smile. "Iris Holmes, will you marry me?"
Iris was speechless. She looked at his beautiful brown eyes and her heart kept pounding in her chest. It all looked like a dream to her.
"Please?" Hugh said, making a puppy face at her and Iris chuckled.
"Well, say something because my knee has started to hurt and it took two days for me to write this speech," Hugh said with a grin.
Iris laughed through tears and nodded. "Yes. Oh my god yes," she said and threw her arms across Hugh's neck.
He got on his toes and held her tight across his torso with his free hand. Then put the ring on her finger and kissed it. Hugh kept smiling shyly. He was over the moon. It was hard for him to contain his heart.
A month later they had a small ceremony in the Church where first Albert walked her till the entrance of the Church and then Graham walked her down the aisle and gave her away to Hugh.
They had written their own vows.
Hugh took Iris's hands and said, "Iris Holmes. You are the most amazing woman I've ever seen. I was totally drawn towards your innocent eyes the moment I saw you at the Christmas shop. I thought I'll never see you again. But when I saw you in the market again, I knew there was something special about you. I had to know you. I thought I'll never be able to love anyone ever again but with you..." He exhaled and Iris pursed her lips. She tried hard not to cry in front of everyone. "Well, with you everything changed. Iris, I vow to love you every day, every second. I vow to take care of you always. And I promise to keep loving you even in sickness. I love you so much."
Iris nodded softly and chuckled. She held back her tears, but Hugh's eyes got moist.
Iris tightened her grip on his fingers and buried her eyes in his and said, "Hugh Wilson. You have given me everything. You became my family the moment you stepped into my life and remained the same. You have filled the emptiness of my life with warmth, love, and your unbelievably gorgeous smile." Hugh chuckled. "You gave me the love, the respect that I never thought I deserved. I vow to always have your back; I vow to stand strongly by your side no matter what the challenges. I vow to always pull you up whenever you have a downfall and I vow to never leave you even in our worst times. I love you. I love you for eternity."
A teardrop rolled down Hugh's cheek. "For eternity," he whispered with a nod.
After the minister pronounced them man and wife, Iris took Hugh into her embrace and took his lips into hers. No one around them matters.
They were completely lost in the kiss.
Everyone clapped and cheered. Graham and Albert whistled, and Hugh slowly released Iris from his grasp feeling a little embarrassed. They both chuckled and touched their foreheads together. "I love you," Hugh whispered and kissed her forehead.
Since Iris was totally fascinated by Switzerland, Hugh surprised her by taking her there for their honeymoon. They finally opened a small restaurant in the village. They had decided that they were going to take this step seriously and had started saving up money.
Hugh took a loan and they finally got a place to open their dream restaurant in Avebury named “The Wilsons.” Mr. Davies had some influences, so it was easy to get a place. With their saved money they were able to get the required things. Their food became a hit in no time. People started waiting outside the restaurant to get a seat. Albert quit his job in Cafe and started working part-time in their restaurant and they also hired a full-time waiter.
Iris didn't sell her place. After all, it had a better view than Hugh's place. They would go there often and stay for a couple of days before going back to Hugh's house.
Life is uncertain. You bump into your soulmate when you're least expecting it. Iris was in despair until Hugh came into her life and loved her like no one ever could. Miracles do happen. Iris got what she deserved. A happy ending.
