Between Triumphs

Eva’s phone had been buzzing non-stop since they returned to the suite. She sat cross-legged on the plush couch, her laptop open in front of her and her phone glued to her ear. Her face was lit up with joy as she juggled calls from colleagues, investors, and business partners, all congratulating her on the groundbreaking deal with Sterling Biotech.

“Thank you, Richard. Yes, it’s a huge step for Novamed. I couldn’t have done it without the team. Let’s set up a meeting next week to discuss our next moves,” she said, her voice filled with energy.

Finn leaned against the wall, sipping a bottle of water and watching her with an easy smile. Her excitement was infectious, radiating from her in waves. Even though the moment had nothing to do with him, he couldn’t help but feel proud. This was Eva in her element: confident, capable, and unstoppable.

Another call came in before Eva could even take a breath. She quickly switched lines. “Hi, Susan! Yes, I’m still processing it. It’s surreal. Oh, the next steps? Absolutely, I’ll shoot over a timeline later today.”

Finn chuckled softly as he watched her. Her eyes sparkled with happiness, her cheeks flushed from the adrenaline of success. He could’ve sworn she was glowing. She looked unstoppable, her energy commanding, and yet there was something deeply human about the way she swiped at a loose strand of hair while scribbling frantic notes in her planner.

For the next hour, she bounced between calls, answering emails, and jotting down updates. Even as the sun began to set over the Arabian Gulf, casting golden light across their suite, Eva showed no signs of slowing down.

Finally, the calls slowed, and Eva set her phone down with a deep sigh, leaning back against the couch. She stretched her arms over her head, a satisfied grin spreading across her face. “Finally, a moment to breathe.”

Finn smiled and walked over, sitting beside her. “You’re a rockstar, Eva. Watching you handle all that? It’s like seeing a master at work.”

Her smile softened, and she tilted her head toward him. “You really think so?”

“I know so,” Finn said, his voice warm.

“I’ve never seen anyone do what you just did. It’s like you were commanding an entire army through that phone.”

Eva laughed lightly, leaning back against the cushions. “It’s been a crazy day. I don’t even know how to feel right now. Relieved, excited, overwhelmed… all of it. I can’t believe it’s finally done.”

Her voice softened, and she glanced at Finn. “I couldn’t have gotten through this trip without you, you know. You’ve been so patient while I’ve been… well, not exactly present.”

Finn’s smile widened. “You’re giving me way too much credit. All I did was sit here and stay out of your way.”

“Don’t sell yourself short,” she said, her expression growing earnest.

“Having you here… it kept me sane. You’ve been my rock.”

Finn hesitated for a moment, then reached for her hand. His touch was warm and steady, and his gaze locked onto hers, as if he was gathering the courage to say what was on his mind.

“Eva, you’ve done so much for me on this trip,” he began, his voice quieter now, almost shy. “You brought me here to Dubai, showed me this incredible city, and gave us memories I’ll never forget. I’ve been thinking about how I could do something for you in return.”

Eva raised an eyebrow, curiosity flickering across her face. “Finn, you didn’t have to do anything. Just being here with me means everything.”

“I know. But I wanted to,” he said, his voice gaining strength but still laced with humility. His thumb brushed against her hand as he spoke, and his smile turned slightly self-deprecating.

“Look, I’m not a billionaire heiress, and I don’t have the kind of money to match this.” He gestured around the luxurious suite with a playful smirk. “But I’ve put together something I think you’ll love. It’s not extravagant, but it’s… me.”

Eva tilted her head, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. For the first time all day, she let herself pause and truly take him in. The way he leaned toward her, his hazel eyes so full of sincerity it made her heart ache. Finn had always had this way of grounding her, of reminding her there was more to life than endless striving. “Okay,” she said softly. “Now you’ve got me intrigued. What is it?”

“Not so fast,” he said, his grin widening, though a faint blush crept into his cheeks. “You’ll find out soon. Just trust me, okay?”

She laughed, the tension of the day finally melting away.

“I do trust you. But don’t make me wait too long.”

“You won’t,” he promised.
