Chapter 42
Luke Thompson felt like jumping for joy when his son called him on the phone to deliver the information he had been waiting on all day. Not only were his suspicions confirmed, but he also got to know that his quarry had offered to surrender himself in exchange for Eric. Knowing that his lifelong dream was about to come true gave him an instant hardon, and he rubbed his erect shaft absently as he left his office to check on his prisoner personally.
He had watched on his computer monitor as the infrared camera caught the young man changing from human to a giant wolf. Luke had always thought that werewolves were supposed to look like the kinds he had seen on TV in Hollywood movies that were a combination of wolves and humans in one body. But this one—this one was different. He changed into a wolf so swiftly that the transformation was difficult to decipher even when he played back the recording and slowed it down. He had replayed that clip multiple times just to see how that real-life magic had occurred.
Imagine the U.S. military force being able to transform into these beings at will on the battlefields. It would change the face of warfare forever and put America in a class of its own. Imagine having secret ops members that could become wolves and then transform to humans again when the need arose…phenomenal!
When he got to the door leading to where the prisoner was being held, he punched in a code to deactivate the electric firewall on the door and unlock it too. The night vision goggles he wore gave him perfect sight in the nearly pitch-black room. The werewolf was now in human form and lay motionless on the floor, but Luke wasn’t fooled. He knew that these species had great strength and they were capable of moving at lightning speed. Although the werewolf was injured, Luke knew that his prisoner still possessed the power to attack him and tear him apart in a matter of seconds.
“The Alpha has agreed to surrender himself in exchange for your freedom,” he announced to Eric who appeared to be asleep. “I hope that makes you happy.”
No response.
“Did you hear what I said?”
Silence.
“Well, then. I just thought I should let you know that you will be leaving here soon,” Luke continued. “If you try anything stupid like jumping me or attempting to harm my staff when they come here to get you, then the deal is off. We’ll kill you, kill your family and still capture the Alpha. So, think carefully before you make your next move.”
Eric neither responded nor moved, and his lack of interest infuriated Luke. He had been hoping to get a reaction from the wounded werewolf, but the young chap seemed determined not to give him that satisfaction.
“Very well,” Luke said and slowly backed out of the room, his eyes pinned on Eric.
Once he left the room, Eric slowly raised himself to a sitting position, resting his back on the cold wall behind him. He wondered what his clan were planning—did they indeed agree to trade Gary for him? It seemed unlikely but how else would they secure his freedom without giving this lunatic scientist what he wanted?
He sighed and closed his eyes. This shouldn’t be happening, he thought miserably. This felt like a bad dream that he couldn’t wait to wake up from.
