CHAPTER 21

Michaela shudders in her sleep. The voice knocks at the back of her head.

“Stop it. You are not going anywhere. Your daughter needs you.” It’s her father’s voice.

“I cannot let you ruin yourself. I love you.”

He says to his wife who is sitting on the floor.

“But I love him. I am nothing without him.”

She wails.

Nate pulls Michaela closer. This has happened before. Nightmares. Some of us dream of them, the other live in it.

“Its okay. “ he whispers to her.

“Its okay darling. I’m here.”

The shudders subside as Michaela pulls him closer.
