CHARLOTTE'S POV:-
In the morning, I stepped out of the bathroom and found Benjamin lying on the bed. He was staring at the ceiling while humming that one song he used to humm all the time. Taking a deep breath, I walked into the closet. I wore my clothes for the day and as I walked back out, I found him standing in front of the closet.
"Don't you have anything else to do?" I asked, annoyed to see his face every single morning. Benjamin pulled something out of his blazer and slammed it in front of me.
"I am asking you for the very last time, Charlotte. Are you signing these papers or…" I didn't let him complete his sentence.
"Or what?" I screamed at him angrily.
For a moment, he was stunned at my sudden reaction as I had never screamed at him like this before. "I am sick and tired of the games you are playing with me. I am not a doll. I have a heart, a brain and a conscience. And none of those three wants to do anything with you. Why don't you just leave me like you did before? I have given you everything you wanted." I added, walking toward the dresser to brush my hair.
"So you won't sign the marriage certificate?" Shamelessly, he asked again as if those words really didn't show him what I actually thought of him. It was true, my heart was still stupid, wanting to be with someone who betrayed me not just once.
"You can ask me a hundred times and there is nothing in this world that can change my mind. I am never signing these papers. You can't have me back." I stated as clearly as I could. My mind and my conscience were on the same page about the matter.
I heard him chuckle from behind me as he walked toward me. "We'll see about that!" He confidently stated, making me nervous. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and dialled Joe's number. Rolling my eyes at him, I tried to push him away when suddenly he grabbed my hand and pulled me to his chest.
"What is wrong with you, you psycho? Let me go." I yelled at him angrily. He growled, making me startle all of the sudden.
"Show her, Joe!" He ordered Joe on the phone. He had actually turned on the video camera. With a confused look on my face, I looked at the screen. That's when Joe turned the camera toward someone I was least expecting.
Andrew was surrounded by a bunch of thugs who were beating him. He was covered with blood and bruises. "Andy? Andrew! What are you doing there?" I tried to question Andrew but he was not in the shape to answer me.
"Benjamin! What are you doing? This isn't fair. You are bringing someone to our fight that has nothing to do with either of us." I screamed at Benjamin angrily, pulling his collar.
He just smiled shamelessly and the thugs stopped. I took a sigh of relief. But that relief didn't last long. The next moment, I saw them going for the bats and hockeys that were lying on the ground. "Wait! What are they up to? What are they gonna do?" I asked, staring at Benjamin's face.
The calmed look on his face made me angrier. And that smirk on his face terrorized me. "They are gonna beat your little boyfriend until you have signed the certificate." Benjamin stated nonchalantly.
"Ben, no! You can't do this. This is wrong." I yelled at him, shaking my head. I never thought Benjamin could go this far to twist other people's lives the way he wanted them to be. In my face, to him, I was just a puppet and he wanted to be my puppeteer.
"They don't understand right and wrong, Tinkerbell. They only know the language that I speak. If you want him to live, you're gonna have to sign the certificate and become my wife again." I couldn't understand why he would be doing this.
He was the one who had kicked me out of his life. And after everything he made me go through, he wanted me back in his life again. "In fact, I have a better idea. You and I will get married again traditionally. I can't forget the fact that you are strictly religious and you wouldn't accept a single signature on a paper." My heart dropped in the pit of my stomach as he said those words.
"Don't worry about me, Charl. Just don't give up." My eyes started to water up as I heard Andrew trying to give me strength despite the situation he was in.
The thugs raised their arms to begin hitting Andrew again. "Just stop it! I'll do it." I screamed at Benjamin as I fell on my knees in front of Benjamin. Never in my life had I thought that I would be blackmailed by that man again.
"Joe! Once we get married, set him free." Benjamin ordered Joe and hung up.
"I am waiting for you in my car. It's parked outside the building. Come quick. We will go shopping. Then we will get married. If you try to pull any stupid stunts, your boyfriend will lose his life." Benjamin growled at me as he walked away, leaving me in tears.
I hated myself for being born with such helplessness. For the sake of the man who gave me life, I wiped my tears and stood up on my feet. I walked out of the apartment building and went straight to where Benjamin had parked his car. I hopped into the car and he drove off.
He took me to the same boutique where I had gotten my wedding dress the very first time. The memories that were sweet years ago, had turned bitter and were piercing my heart as if they were a thousand needles. The wedding that was forced upon me. And I still tried to make everything work. Only to be disappointed at the end when he left me alone at the time when I needed him the most.
He chose a long choker dress for me that was backless. I didn't argue because the life of my savior depended on me. He saved me when I was all alone in the entire world. I couldn't turn my back on when he was the one in trouble.
I dressed up for Benjamin like a doll that he thought I actually was. He took me to the church that I hadn't visited in a long time. "Isn't this the same church you used to visit back when you were here?" Benjamin asked me as he pulled me toward the spot where the Padre was supposed to be.
Father John stepped out of his chambers and as soon as he saw me, his eyes filled with concern for me. "Welcome my children, what can I do for you?" Father John asked calmly. I stayed quiet because I didn't want to be trouble for Andrew anymore.
…….
Once the ceremony was over, Benjamin pulled me toward himself and leaned in. His lips were merely an inch away from mine when he smirked. "I would rather have it when we get home, Tinkerbell." He whispered seductively, making me shiver as his eyes turned dark with lust. Before he could pull me out of the church, I stopped and wrapped my arms above my chest.
Benjamin looked at me, and in annoyance, he raised one of his eyebrows. "You are forgetting something. I did whatever you asked me to do. Now free Andrew or I am not going anywhere with you." I growled at him, not caring one bit about the people who were staring at us as they walked past us.
Benjamin smirked mischievously at me as he pulled his phone out of his pocket. He dialled someone's number. I already knew it was Joe. "Free him, Joe. It's done." Merely five words he said after destroying my life. And he was still smiling. He stuffed his phone back into his pocket before he grabbed my wrist again and practically dragged me out of the church.
Once we got back to the apartment, I was locked inside that room again. As if I was some sort of animal for him. He kept me locked in like a mere pet he had gotten to keep him entertained. I pulled the dress off of me and wiped my makeup off of my face. I used to think that the worst decision of my life was to trust my brother and marry the man who destroyed everything in my life.
I was proved wrong the moment I decided to come back to that damn city that snatched everything from me. I fell on my knees and started crying at my fate. I had no idea who might have cursed my fate and why. I didn't remember doing anything wrong to anyone in my life. I just wanted to live a peaceful life and have a family. Was it too much to ask for, I often found myself asking that question.
