Chapter 40 Make you queen

Chapter 40 Make you queen
Lucian left.

Silence between Valerio and Evyths and unspoken words through their gazes were all that was heard.

“My king, did you need me?” she asked, her tone mixed with sarcasm and directness.
Valerio scoffed, unable to believe his ears and hide his displeasure.

“Eva, we have to talk,”

“About what, your majesty? The king of vampires doesn't need a hound in his court. I'm only your… servant, slave, plaything, test object, pup, and what have you,” she stated firmly, her voice shook with hurt and anger that she managed to hide a little.

“I know these things perfectly, you do not have to remind me over and over and over… again. At least, listen to what I have to say,” Valerio, who was now the king, stated calmly. The soldiers who lurked behind did not believe that the king would let Evyths speak with him after the slap she gave him openly.

“I understood that you are hurt,” he picked back up as his crow instantly flew away. Evyths hugged her arms, unable to look the king in the eye.

Was he telling a lie again?
Was he the same?
Was he angry?
Evyths could not tell but she knew certainly that she was angry with the king.

Evyths stared at him deeply, something about him changed.
He looked unfazed get unhappy. Been if he wasn't usually smiling or keeping a tolerable face, yet she could feel this one—his thoughts felt heavy.

“I… I got married today,” he let out like it meant nothing to him—truly it meant nothing to Valerio. The marriage was the clan’s arrangement, it was all for—”

“Influence?!” Evyths gently interrupted as Valerio paused, not knowing how to further the conversation.
Around her, she made him feel nervous and at a loss for words.

No one had ever made him feel that way except Evyths. A werewolf. An omega at that.

“I also understand the reasons behind your marriage… if it's true what I hear. I know that it is important and as king… you must protect your kingdom and put duty first.” she paused, mustering the courage to speak as if the situation did not cripple her or break her heart.

“I just needed you to tell me that you were… getting married to Lady Raven. At least, a heads-up could have… sufficed. It felt daunting knowing that you professed your love to me earlier and skipped this part. But, what do I know, I'm just a… hound, your majesty…”

He instantly drew closer to get, his hand on her face as Evyths quickly pulled away, looking from corner to corner.

“You’re trying to get me in trouble...” Evyths said under her breath as Valerio scoffed, unbothered.

“I couldn't help it,”

“I'm no longer angry at you. It was dumb to do so. I would very much like us to… act normal and keep a distance, your majesty.” she managed to say, my throat sore with words that she couldn't speak out loud. “You are married and I —”

“Don’t you dare ignore me…” he snapped, grabbing her wrist tightly. “Everyone in this palace knows that I'm in love with. I made you orgasm right before my subjects with just my fingers. They know that you are one I want…” he growled with a slight frown as Evyths whimpered softly.

“Your threats won't work, your majesty. I know what you are doing, King Valerio, I know your games to get me to say yes to you even if my head would be burned on a pike—” she stated firmly.

“I will always protect you,” he suppressed his groaning. He released, his lips twitching impatiently. He was feeling lost and crazily in love with Evyths, unable to hide his yearning for her.

It was glaring to every lurking eye that saw them.

“I know you, I know you always will, but I cannot keep walking behind your niece with my head staring at the ground every step I take—living in fear that I might just die the next minute. We both know that Lady Raven won't accept this,” she chimed in.

“She wouldn't, but she's not the king. She's imprisoned by me for the heinous acts that she has committed. In fact, I am using this marriage and war to my advantage when I realized that I cannot throw her while my clan and court members plead with me to keep her. It's not me, it’s my duty to the throne. I haven't forgotten my promises to you, Eva, I still intend to keep them…” he said with a flare of worry on his face.

The breeze blew evenly, their hair eagerly draping the sides of their faces slightly.

“Don’t make it a duty to love or protect me. This is not meant to be in the beginning, it was a stupid mistake that he made—”

“And I love… every… bit… of it,” he closed the distance between them again. Evyths swallowed hard, quivering at his singular touch on her arm. His fingers traced her shoulder and a smirk captured his lips.

Did the king truly understand the implications of what he was doing while everyone who lurked watched? Evyths debated in her mind, frustration and concern laced her face evenly.

“I have a plan,” he said in a very calm tone that only two of them could hear. “After the war is over, I would pass judgment on Lady Blackwin,” he stated proudly as Evyths’ brows knitted curiously. That expression and smirk looked familiar, it hinted at danger.

“What… is your final judgement?” Evyths asked, her tone broke.

“No one can kill the sorceress but I am gifted with immunity.” he leaned down towards her ear, his frosty skin grazed her cheek, a chill ran down her spine instantly, waking up something she tried to bury. “I will kill her and I will make you my queen…” Valerio said in a whisper as Evyths attempted to pull away but his hand held her back, pressing her gently against his chest whether she liked it or not.

She was scared that someone might just interrupt or say something to her, her breath hitched and her heart ran a race into the sky. The king was trouble and he knew it.

He enjoyed it. He loved his timid she became. He loved the innocence on her face. The little fear that danced on her skin. He loved everything.

“You can't... make me queen, your majesty…” she forcefully retorted in a whisper as her gaze caught Raven and Octavio from behind Valerio, staring at her.

She could see how furious and hurt Raven looked while Octavio looked betrayed.

When she tried to pull away forcefully, hinting at those who were behind,?watching.

“No matter what you do, Evyths, you can't run from. I know that they are here; Let. Them. See.” Valerio’s low possessive growl followed, making Evyths squint her eyes in embarrassment and shame.

“After I'm done talking to your little boyfriend, Lucian, who now plays the good and mannered vampire card sharing in your plight to strike a fire that cannot be there with me in the picture, we’ll go hunting like I promised, my queen…” he said, his baritone low, hungry and psychotic as he released, folding his lower lip swiftly.

“I’m going to get killed with the way you're… holding me and whispering evil things in my ear…” Evyths snapped under her breath, averting her gaze from Valerio who was enjoying the shoe if ownership, with a playful smirk on his lips.

“Believe it or not, I will make you my queen…” Valerio snapped with a satisfied grin while she ran inside, unable to process his words.

Had he gone mad?
