Chapter 10 Is she immune?

Chapter 10 Is she immune?
A few moments later, Evyths found herself bound to a bed in a dark room, the cold steel restraints biting into her skin. The air smelled old and damp.

Evyths looked down at herself and realized she was alive and unclothed. Her eyes quickly darted around the room, landing on the door. She noticed the prince’s broad back, his red cape draped over it. Beside him stood another man whom Evyths didn’t recognize.

From their demeanor, it was clear they were engaged in a deep conversation. Evyths tried to lift her body, but she felt weak, and the chains clanked lightly. Yet, the men didn’t seem to notice.

Despite her predicament, Evyths remained calm, a dozen thoughts racing through her mind.

“What happened?” she asked herself.

Suddenly, the prince glanced in her direction out of the corner of his eye. She was awake. He immediately patted his companion, and their conversation ended.

Valerio walked over to her, their eyes meeting. A half-condescending smile spread across his lips.

“I— I didn't die? I'm alive?” Evyths asked, her worry and confusion bubbling over. At the same time, she realized there was no way to cover herself. She felt embarrassed, but Valerio showed no signs of caring.

“I told you before, I don’t kill my pets,” his deep voice resonated through the room as he sat beside her. “You look… terrible…” he added, his tone sly and provoking.

Evyths scoffed softly, unsure how to respond to his menacing yet oddly relieving words, especially his last statement.

Considering how things had turned out and his behavior back in the meeting hall, he seemed oddly calm and… fulfilled, she thought.

“How do you feel?” he asked.

“S-sore, your highness,” she breathed, her voice steady while Valerio watched her closely, following the movement of her green eyes. “But… why the chains, your highness? I would never leave or harm anyone—”

“Says someone who tried to escape my grasp,” he replied, and Evyths fell silent.

“Anyway, I have two rules for uou,” he said, her ears focusing on the movement of his lips and the hint of fangs.

Goosebumps spread across her skin, and she felt the chill in the air, her nipples hardening. Despite that, Evyths was curious about what he had to say.

“Firstly, you are not allowed to leave the castle under any circumstances—no matter how much pain you might be in. Secondly, you will actively participate and willingly serve Ravencroft’s cause to produce the antidote. Do you understand?” he asked, a dark smirk revealing his fangs.

Fear washed over Evyths; she understood the implications of his words, and her chances of survival seemed nonexistent.

She was nothing to him.
She was merely a test subject—just like her pack members, he regarded her with no care at all.

Accepting her fate in the vampire’s castle was not a struggle, but Valerio's intentions towards her were questionable.

As Valerio attempted to leave, Evyths curled up and spoke again, “Pl- please, what did you do to me? Why have I not died? Why am I... NAKED?”

Valerio paused, taking a moment to breathe. He turned to face her, his dark, majestic features glowing even in the dim light.

“Are you really sure you want to know, Eva?” A cunning yet authoritative smile rested on his lips.

Evyths slowly nodded, uncertain if this was one of his usual tricks.

“Okay,” he replied, surveying the room before continuing. He moved closer to her, standing at the edge of the bed as he picked up a half-broken mirror.

He touched the surface, and it glowed strangely. Evyths could see everything that happened from the moment she passed out.

Flashback begins:

“Is she dead?” one person asked, his eyes widening as they all watched, including Prince Valerio.

“We are yet to find out,” the prince replied.

“And what if she dies? That would mean breaching the treaty,” someone reminded.

“Wait and watch. If she doesn’t make it, then let us prepare for war or fabricate a lie—though that’s totally out of my nature. I’m not a coward,” Valerio stated offhandedly.

Meanwhile, Evyths remained unconscious, leaving the bloodthirsty demons lost in their thoughts—muddled and curious.

After a few moments of waiting, Evyths began to twitch, her body throbbing as if she were under a hex.

Gradually, her features started to darken, her skin turning to silver. Her clothes tore apart, and her body began to shift as fur developed and her tender fingers transformed into sharp, black claws.

“Your highness, she’s transforming, and this is not a blood moon…” one cried out in awe, his eyes wide.

Valerio, too, was astonished. He had never seen anything like it before. She was an omega, not an alpha. Throughout his years of intense research and experience, he knew that alpha werewolves were the ones who transformed effortlessly.

“I knew it. Kaya was right…” Valerio whispered to himself as he witnessed Evyths’ full transformation as an omega.

She was silver, glowing, strong, and fierce.

Howling—a mix of pain and satisfaction—her wolf grappled with the chains, tearing the iron apart.

All the vampires floated in the air while the guards held out their pikes, ready to attack—except for Valerio.

He raised a finger, signaling for the men to stand down.

He stood directly in front of her, unfazed yet baffled.

As if she recognized him, as if he calmed the storm within her, she stood. Her growling subsided.

“You are not in danger, Eva. You are safe. As I promised the Alpha King, no harm will come to you… I give you my word,” Valerio said to her.

At first, she was resistant, but then her intensity and chaos began to fade. Evyths transformed back to her normal self.

She lay on the cold floor, shivering in the chill of the room that felt like a morgue—naked, exhausted, and unconscious.

“Does that mean she is… immune?” a question rang out.

“Everyone, leave!” Valerio ordered, and they all vanished into thin air.

Valerio lifted her up, carrying her in his arms. When Vance attempted to help the prince, he refused to let Evyths go to Vance or anyone else.

The prince vanished with her, appearing in a cold, dark room that he hoped would be safe for her—at least until she fully recovered.

Flashback ends.

\---

When Evyths watched everything through the mirror Valerio had brought closer to her, she could hardly believe it.

“I… transformed? I have a wolf?” she asked, her voice trembling with shock.

This was something that had never happened in her 21 years of existence.

Even Ryker and Selene had mocked her, making her the object of jest when they pushed her into the forest to hunt.

As the supposed Luna, she should have been able to hunt, but instead, she was almost eaten by a beast until Ryker tore it apart. For that entire Luna month, he humiliated her until it became a haunting melody in her ears.

Now that she had transformed, what could this mean for Evyths?

“Just like you, I was baffled. You’re not as useless as I thought. One thing piqued my interest: if you didn’t die from the enhanced wolfbane I poisoned you with, could it mean that you are immune? Fully resistant to its deadly toxins?” he asked her. For a moment, she found herself lost in an abyss of confusion.
