Chapter 98: Flirting

Wellington's game plan was to chill here for a bit, mess around with them for an hour or so, and then bounce.

The scene at the makeshift camp in the apocalypse was a hot mess. If the bosses decided to do a headcount outta nowhere, he'd be screwed. Plus, with tens of thousands of people crammed in there, it was like sitting on a ticking time bomb. No one could promise it wouldn't blow up.

Even though the 30,000-strong refugee camp folks didn't have weapons, who could say some nutjob wouldn't start something?

Sarah was sitting next to Wellington and noticed he looked kinda down, which was weird. Wellington was usually the chillest, most laid-back dude in the company. When he saw people slacking, he'd just shrug it off. He liked to roam around the office, and if you didn't know him, you'd think he was just a flirt trying to hit on the girls.

But Sarah knew Wellington was just bored out of his mind.

Thalia ran everything in the company. Since it was a new gig, they'd gone over a month without any real work. Not just the design team, but everyone was just lounging around with nothing to do.

Sarah knew Thalia was a tough cookie. Even though she was young, she had big dreams. It wouldn't be long before everyone was swamped with work, unlike the current chill vibe.

The bar's music was so loud you had to yell into each other's ears to be heard. Sarah hesitated for a sec, then scooted closer to Wellington, leaned in, and shouted, "Mr. Guise, what's so funny?"

With Sarah's scent, her lips so close, and her flushed face, especially her innocent look, Wellington couldn't help but sigh. Fresh grads were different; they didn't have the charm of older women, but they were still super attractive. In a place full of girls, Wellington felt overwhelmed. Maybe this was a guy's ultimate happiness?

"I just thought of something funny, so I laughed."

Sarah was momentarily stunned by the electric feeling, her face turning as red as an apple. Luckily, with the booze, no one noticed. Places like this were perfect for getting closer. She boldly leaned in more and said, "Mr. Guise, is something bothering you? You don't seem very happy."

Wellington smiled and said, "Nah, just not used to this scene."

Don't think Wellington was lying. His college life was pretty boring. His parents busted their butts to send him to college, which wasn't easy. As a kid from the sticks, he didn't have extra cash to hit up places like this. After finally graduating, his job wasn't great. His paycheck went to food and sending money back home to help his parents. Where would he get the extra cash to come to places like this?

This was his first time in a bar, and Wellington's seriousness was just an act.

Wellington didn't know much about the people in the company. He only knew a bit about Sarah. Now, through casual chat, he naturally learned more about her. But Wellington had no bad intentions, so he just listened and then changed the topic.

Checking his watch, it was already eleven. Most of the girls were sweating from dancing, sipping cold cocktails, and chatting again.

Such a lively youth was definitely a sight to see in this bar. Wellington could feel that if looks could kill, he'd be dead by now. Some bold guys couldn't resist coming over to chat them up.

Wellington scratched his nose, feeling a bit helpless. He couldn't control these dudes. If they had the guts to chat someone up, more power to them.

The bar was packed with all sorts of folks. With over thirty young and cute girls in the mix, it was like a magnet for attention. Guys were throwing out lines like, "Can I buy you a drink? Got plans tonight? I know a nice hotel."

Wellington could only shake his head in admiration. These guys had guts, no doubt about it.

One particularly bold dude got a swift beatdown from one of the more fiery girls in the company, all under a barrage of disdainful looks.

Sarah giggled next to him and said, "Giselle's got a blue belt in Taekwondo. She can handle these clowns no problem. She's like our company’s guardian angel. Otherwise, we'd never dare come to places like this."

Wellington chuckled. He never would've guessed that slender Giselle Montague was a Taekwondo blue belt. Just goes to show, you can't judge a book by its cover.

After that guy's example, the rest of the would-be suitors got a bit more polite. But the girls, fresh out of school, weren't biting. They enjoyed the attention but weren't about to drink or dance with anyone. Plus, their bosses were right there. Flirting with a guy would be career suicide.

The guys left awkwardly, but then a burly dude with a mean look sauntered over from a nearby table. He slammed his big hand on their table and sneered, "I don't do small talk, but I like pure girls like you." He pointed at Thalia and a few of the prettiest girls, saying, "You, come drink with us."

Giselle, still fired up from dealing with the last guy, couldn't hold back. She stepped up to the burly dude and snapped, "What do you take us for? I'm a blue belt in Taekwondo."

The burly guy sneered, "Blue belt? Pathetic!" He grabbed Giselle by the neck and lifted her with one hand. No matter how much she struggled, she couldn't budge him. The strength difference was clear.

Seeing the burly guy about to toss Giselle, Wellington knew he couldn't just stand by.

He stood up and said calmly, "Bullying a woman? Real classy." He walked up to the burly guy, patted his shoulder, and said, "Let's talk this out. No need for violence. You just want them to drink with you, right? We can discuss this. I'm their boss. Talk to me. Let's chat on the side?"

The burly guy disdainfully put Giselle down, looked at Wellington, and said, "At least you know what's good for you!"

Wellington turned back and gave the nervous girls a reassuring smile, saying, "Don't worry, everyone. I'll go talk to them. Maybe they'll change their minds in a bit? With me handling it, I'm sure I can persuade them."

He made a funny face, clenched his fist, and made a cheering gesture, then followed the burly guy to their table.

Wellington was already fed up with the management and needed to blow off some steam. Now, someone had come to him. Plus, it was a chance to play the hero. How could he pass that up? Looking at the burly guys at the table, Wellington even started to feel sorry for them.
