Chapter 920 Chapter 920
Webb had to hand it to the leaders here at the factory. When something needed to be handled, it was done so very quickly. Tripp and Amari were en route, along with Calum and Shaelan. He didn’t know why, but just hearing that Calum Dante was coming made him feel like things were more under control.
He stepped back and looked at the cot and the items he’d set on top of it. He glanced around. It wasn’t very warm in this space, but if this Grifter guy had been a rogue all these years, he could probably weather a bit of dampness.
Kobie and Blair came into the garage. He was carrying a small table, and she had a fold-up chair. They went into the cell with him.
“Is Raymond sending others?” He worried about Jo and Julia. They'd been through enough. They didn’t need to be freaked out about crazy psychos getting into the factory.
“Devin said Pasha, Calder, and Keaton were on the way.” Kobie opened the chair and set it beside the table. “We’re going to take one of the couple's rooms. Do we just write the number down in that book?”
Webb nodded. “Grab a red tag for the door handle. Blaise and I came up with that when the teens started arriving.”
“All right.” She looked at Blair. “I’ll go do that and get our bags from the car.”
Blair nodded and then stood there with his hands on his hips. “This is cozy.”
Webb shrugged. “It’s a just-in-case cell. I didn’t think it would be used.” He looked at the door. “Is Noah staying, too?”
Blair nodded. “Devin asked if we could, so we can go out and patrol.”
That made Webb feel better. More was better. “We haven’t set up any permanent residents here for extra security. Not with everyone being needed everywhere else.”
“Well, Devin and Rayne are the future of our kind, so I’m willing to stay and make sure no one gets near here that shouldn’t.”
“Tripp and Amari are coming.”
Blair snorted. “Why does that make me feel better?”
Webb grinned. “Deacon suggested them. He told Devin we’d need a little bit of out-of-control to handle this.”
“We have Noah, too. He may not be out of control. He’s more intense-deadly-focus.” Blair gave the space one more brief look and then stepped out of the cage. “Is Griffin here?”
“No. He’s still at the safe house with his mother.” Webb turned and walked out of the space. He debated on closing the door but decided to leave it open. “Akira seems like a capable kid.”
Blair snorted. “She's hard to keep track of.”
Webb shrugged. “Maybe she should train for the surveillance team. They’re hard to find a trace of.”
Blair nodded. “I suggested that to Nolyn. She’s assessing their strengths and stuff and suggesting which they should train for.”
“I wonder what Tia will do.” He went over and picked up his clipboard. He still needed to finalize some orders, but needed Blaise to add things.
“Whatever she wants. She could take down a giant with just the words out of her mouth.”
Webb laughed. “Noah get over her being here yet?”
Blair shrugged. “He hasn’t said anything, but that doesn’t mean a thing with him.”
They went out into the hall. “I wonder if we should warn Paxton.”
“The kid from Konner’s clan?”
Webb nodded. “He keeps looking at Tia like she’s his favorite candy.”
“How old is he?”
“Sixteen.”
Blair stopped and blew out a breath. “I barely remember that age now.” He shook his head. “He'll be getting all the feels coursing through his body and shifting soon on top of it—” He frowned. “I think. I don’t know how it goes with Water Clan.”
“He should maybe know that Tia is Noah’s sister.”
Blair snorted. “She will chew him up and spit him out.” She scowled. “He better keep his distance from Akira. I mean, she’s got a mean streak in her that would probably scar him for life, but I’d still have to kill him.”
Webb laughed. “The teen training program is going to be a good source of entertainment.”
“You’re only saying that because none of your relatives are in it.”
Webb nodded. “That’s right. Mine are at home where I don’t have to watch after them.”
“Big family?”
Webb shrugged. “Big enough.”
Blair clapped him on the shoulder. “I feel your pain, man, trust me.”
Both stopped and watched Wynter and Fallan walking to the front doors.
“Wynter is escorting Fallan to install the cameras in town,” Webb explained.
“I think she’ll be safe. If anyone interferes, Wynter will likely beat them with whatever is handy.”
Webb couldn’t argue with that. “Do you ever look at one of ours and wonder what their mate will be like?” He had no idea why he said that out loud.
“No, but with Wynter’s, he’s going to have to have balls of steel.” Blair snorted. “What about you? What type of woman do you see yourself with?”
Webb immediately thought of Rhogue. “I don’t know.” He turned to him. “How do you know when they are meant to be your mate?”
Blair snorted. “Well, your animal will do stupid shit. You will say and do stupid shit and be unsure about everything.” He smiled. “It’s magical.”
Webb grinned, even though he didn’t feel like it.
“Speaking of mates, there’s mine. I’ll see you later.” He walked away.
Webb looked at the clipboard in his hand. Stupid shit didn’t really give him a clear picture. As far as he knew, he hadn’t done that, though. Unless searching the endless forest area was classified as stupid shit, because he’d done that for a month hoping to see her. Since he had seen her and that mark on her neck, he’d been unfocused and falling behind in the tasks he had to do.
Sighing, he turned and went toward the communication room. It was the easiest way to track down Blaise. He was looking forward to seeing Gia tomorrow. That would be nice. Maybe they could go for a run together. He liked running with her. She didn’t leave him behind and run full speed ahead like most of his team did.
While he was in the communications room, he was going to look up and see which clan Calder and Keaton were from. Pasha, Calum, Tripp, Amari, and Shaelan were all feline types, so there were going to be no large bear speed runs with any of them.
“Webb.”
He turned to see Blaise coming toward him.
“Can you set up two rooms with two beds side by side? Or one of the four bunk rooms? Cassius is bringing the four young, unmated women to stay here, where it’s safe.”
He was glad that was happening. “What about the young kids?”
She shook her head. “They’re staying at the main house. It will be guarded by all the men who are doing patrol, so they’ll be safe there.”
“They should have a plan to evacuate the kids here in case something goes down.”
She nodded. “I’ll suggest that. Double on basic supplies. We might have to stop shipments if this takes too long.”
Webb didn’t need to ask what ‘this’ entailed. If this Pike person were a threat to the shifter community, he would be handled like all of Aiden Tomas’ people. “The Alliance may need to buy a prison soon.”
Blaise snorted. “Raymond doesn’t keep more than a dozen at any location.”
Webb hadn’t thought of that. “What about Aiden Tomas? Where is he?”
Blaise shrugged. “Only a few know, and it's better that way.”
He couldn’t argue with that. “I’ll go get a room set up. Do you want me to put the usual stuff in it?” They always left towels and toiletries in the rooms.
“Yeah. Add anything you can think of. These girls have been through it. They deserve some nice treatment.”
He nodded. Before he could turn to do that, the main door opened, and Cassius came in. Behind him were three young women that he’d seen a few times when he picked up supplies.
The one was tall. Her complexion told him she wasn’t a teen anymore. She had dirty blond hair that reminded him of wavy ramen noodles. Of course, that thought had his stomach remind him that he hadn’t finished his food. Beside her, the girl was much shorter with dark hair that was a fluffy pixie cut. He only knew the name of the hairstyle because his sister had it. Standing behind them was another who had long blonde hair so long that he figured she’d sit on it every time she sat down. That was why he preferred his close-to-the-scalp cut; no work was involved.
When they stepped in, Rhogue followed them. He frowned. There were supposed to be four unmated women coming. Why was she here?
Cassius went over and spoke to her while Kobie talked to the other three. Was Cassius her mate? He didn’t remember seeing a mark on his neck. Then again, he really wasn’t in the habit of looking at other men’s necks.
Rhogue was carrying a bag. She went over to the others, who were all carrying bags. She was staying. Webb gave them one last look before he headed down the hall.
Something wasn’t adding up.
