Chapter 910 Chapter 910
Ena stood by the van and watched Foster walking back. She still couldn’t believe they’d found the clan. In past years, they’d only had ten members go missing, but they were so well hidden that over twenty of them were still here. Six of them were young kids, and one was a baby. It was wonderful to see. They were lacking in better power and appliances, but compared to her clan, they were way ahead.
Foster had spent most of the day talking to Zain on the phone. Rayne had also called him. Ena felt like she needed to do her part, so she got a list of things needed and told her story at least ten times so this clan would understand how much the Alliance does.
Dinner had been in a big house that belonged to Ezra, the alpha. Hazel was his mate. They had met at a gathering with another like clan almost twenty years ago. She made sure to get the details of that clan for Foster to share with Zain. The clan was in Tennessee. Whether or not they were still there, Hazel hadn’t been sure, but she hoped so because there were a lot of unmated members, and she hoped they would find their mates. She was going to have to find out if small gatherings were allowed. If some of her clan had mates out there, then someday they might have a decent-sized clan again.
Foster had said his teammate Amari would be happy knowing there were more clans like hers out there, making her wonder if that clan’s numbers were dwindling.
The weirdest thing happened when Foster mentioned Amari or Gia, even when he spoke to one of the women of this clan. Ena felt anger. After the third time it happened, she realized it was something entirely different. Her animal didn’t like him near other females. She kept sending images of Ena biting him throughout the day. Foster smiled as he got closer. She automatically returned it. She was going to have to ask him about the biting that her animal was so insistent on. Maybe he had some idea about it.
He stopped. “This representative gig is exhausting.” He sighed. “I might be tired of talking.” He gave her a silly look. “That’s never happened to me before.”
“It’s a good kind of exhaustion, isn’t it?”
He nodded. “We found a clan of twenty-four today.”
“Twenty-six, don’t forget about the girls we already found.”
“Right.” He smiled. “Walker is already headed this way and—” He pointed. “—there’s an actual road that way with the end barricaded. Ezra says my van will like it better.”
“Are we leaving tomorrow?”
He nodded. “Everyone that needed to be contacted has been.” Foster looked around. “Their buildings are in good shape, and health-wise, everyone seems okay.” He turned back to her. “So, we get to leave tomorrow.”
“Are we going anywhere else?”
He shook his head. “No. Jesse said Savan’s brother and Betty’s niece will be there in two days. He thought you might want to be there for that.”
She nodded. “I do.”
“After that, we may need to transport some others.”
“We?”
He scoffed. “I’m not leaving you behind again. It didn’t go well the last time.” He went around to the back of the van and opened the doors. She followed him. He pulled some of the totes out and then put the seat back down.
“What are you doing?”
“I occasionally sleep in my seat, but about six months ago, I found out I could put these seats down, so I do. Then I toss a bed topper on it and actually sleep laying all the way down.” He grinned at her over his shoulder. “I need real rest because I know Betty is going to have a paintbrush in my hand as soon as we drive in.” He pulled out a bag that was long and round. “It’s big enough to share.”
Ena smiled. “I’m just happy the roof doesn’t leak.”
