Chapter 860 Chapter 860
“There’s a blanket in the basket.” Konner yelled. It was loud with the door open.
Uri forced his aves to move away from Oryn. He needed to focus.
“Get that door closed before I lose my supplies.”
That brought Uri out of his head. He needed to shift back to close the door.
Shifting back was easy. His brain was so foggy that he barely felt a thing. Grabbing the blanket, he wrapped it around himself. It was beyond chilly with the door open.
Once he had the door closed, the chopper tipped as they turned.
“Amari isn’t answering. I think she shifted and went after the shooter.”
Uri looked at Oryn, who, even in owl form, looked surprised. Tearing his gaze away from her, he moved closer to Konner so he didn’t have to yell as loud. “Can you try to get a look?”
Konner nodded. “We can’t have any human kills here until the house is cleared.”
Uri knew he should agree with that, but right now, he wasn’t feeling any warm emotions toward someone who had tried to shoot Oryn out of the sky.
“See if you can see anything. There’s a break in the trees.” Konner tipped the chopper. Oryn slid along the smooth floor.
Uri moved over, closed the door, and then looked through the window at the ground. He found the spot Konner was talking about. The sun rising was providing just enough light that, with the help of his owl’s sight, he could see the ground. “Can you get a bit lower?”
“Hang on.”
Uri put his arm out so Oryn wouldn’t slide and hit the door. The way she looked at him told him she was just as surprised about the recent discovery as he was.
She shocked him by hopping up to perch on his arm. He grit his teeth through the pinch of her talons. He knew she was being careful, or his arm would be dripping blood by now. She looked out the window. He lifted his arm and looked at the ground. Oryn was doing the same, and in that form, she would see something before he did.
When she shrieked, he looked at Konner. “She sees her.”
Moving, he let her get off his arm. Uri looked at Konner. “I’ll shift and go down to help.
Konner nodded but kept his eyes straight ahead. “Nola is headed that way with your vehicle. They have those from the house in custody.” He glanced at him. “I need to land and wait for the woman. Eaton says she’s strong enough to move on her own, but that’s likely adrenalin.”
Uri nodded.
“Raymond has a private plane coming to get Kenric and his people., but we need to clean this sight a.s.a.p.”
“Okay. Hold it level so I don’t slide out while I shift.”
“You got it.”
Uri turned back to Oryn. “Once he lands, get to the nearest vehicle.” He felt like he should say more but now wasn’t exactly the time while he was naked in a helicopter and they weren’t alone.
He opened the door and moved back to shift. As soon as he took the blanket off, Oryn flew out the door. “Dammit.”
Konner looked around. “Are you going after her?”
Uri nodded. “I don’t have a choice.” And he didn’t. His owl was coming out and going whether Uri wanted to or not. It was better to work with him than jump out of the chopper with skin still on the outside instead of feathers.
