Chapter 771 Chapter 771
“I’ve got her. She’s at a window on the top floor.” Beck reported.
Bear turned around and looked at the house. He didn’t have a view of that side.
“Does she look distressed?” Quinn asked.
“No, she’s—hold on. She keeps making these motions with her hands over and over.”
Bear looked at the ground, trying to picture what she could be doing.
“Get a video and send it to me,” Eaton said quietly.
“Calla’s mother is deaf. They use sign language.” Zain was still on the call.
Bear hadn’t known that. How would a shifter handle not being able to hear? He knew he couldn’t.
“It’s all three houses. Gideon checked them all.” Luka said calmly.
“They have the whole cul-de-sac.” Eaton glanced out of the van and looked at Bear. “So those guys hanging out by the entrance are keeping watch.”
“This is a lot bigger than we anticipated,” Beck said. “Does anyone know sign language?”
“Send it to me. Carina does.” Raymond Hardy’s deep voice vibrated through the earpiece.
Bear stood there staring at the street. His animal wanted to rush down it, go to the cul-de-sac, and get their mate.
“Carina is looking at it now,” Raymond said in a flat tone. “Do we have a way to signal her, so she knows we received it?”
“I can set up something to reflect, but how will she know it’s us?”
“Beck, one tap means yes, two means no. She’ll know it.” It was Amari.
How many others were listening in?
“She’s telling you not to go in. If we go in, there are more locations they’ll signal and shut down. There is still a deceiver in Alliance.” A woman said. Bear could only assume it was Carina.
“Shit,” Luka growled. “Now what?”
“Signal the one flash. Wait thirty seconds and do it again until she lets you know she got it.” Eaton was out of the van.
“On it,” Beck said.
Bear moved toward her. “What now?”
She glanced at him and then shook her head. “We’ll set up watches all around it until we can get more backup here.”
Bear nodded. “We need to get a phone or something to her.”
Eaton turned and looked down the street. “That’s risky. We can’t get any closer until we know if they have some sort of perimeter alarms set up.” She put her hands on her hips. “We’re just going to have to trust Calla for now to get more information.”
Bear’s animal didn’t like it at all. They were just going to stand here, wait, and hope she was safe and didn’t get caught. That wasn’t a good plan. He looked around. “It’s too busy out here. If she’s going to do anything, it will be out back of this area.”
“I agree.” She motioned to the van and then touched her ear. “We’re going to drive out back and look for places to lay low. I want eyes on where Beck saw her at all times. If she’s going to signal us, she might only have a brief window to do it.”
“I’ll take the first watch,” Beck said. “Gideon is going to fly around and look for other spots where we can stay out of sight.”
“We’ll keep eyes on the sky.” Eaton climbed into the van.
Bear hurried over and got in the back. He looked at Dane. He was staring intently at the screen of his laptop. “What are you doing?”
He gave him the briefest look ever. “Scanning for frequencies to see if I can figure out how they signal the other locations.”
“Can you block it if you find it?” He just wanted to go in there and get her out of there.
“Won’t know until I find it.” He leaned closer, his fingers flying over the keyboard.
Eaton glanced in the mirror at him. “We can’t go in until we figure that out.”
Bear nodded. That was great and not the answer he was looking for. His cat moved through him, and he had to clench his jaw and relay they were on an indefinite hold. Bear squeezed his fists tight and stared out the window. He’d burn all the buildings to the ground if anything happened to her.
