Chapter 740 Chapter 740
Oaklyn sat there and looked around at the others coming and going. Her wolf was right there. She wasn’t used to being around so many shifters, especially different clans in one space. So far everyone she met she liked. They weren’t how she pictured them being. They may be out there looking after their kind and ending the injustices being done, but they were fun and friendly.
She watched Kobie and Blair come in. He was a bit of a comedian, but she thought they were a perfect couple. She wondered how they had found each other and if it was smooth sailing from the start. They seemed in synch with each other, and she envied them. Turning, she looked at where Zain sat with his friends Foster and Webb. Life was too complicated for her and for Zain as well, so there wasn’t going to be any smooth sailing for them.
When she turned back, Kobie was smiling as she walked toward her.
“How are you doing?” She perched on the end of the table.
“I’m good.” She grinned. “It’s a lot to get used to. So many others around.”
Kobie nodded. “Mmm, I was used to my clan and now it’s rooms full of people all the time.” She smiled. “You get used to it and appreciate the quiet more when it happens.”
Oaklyn nodded. “I don’t know if I’ll be around it as much as you.” She tilted her head. “From what Zain has told me you have a house full of clan and children.”
Kobie laughed. “We managed to get some of the other buildings done before winter, but yes, it’s going to be crowded until Spring.”
“I don’t know what that’s like. Being surrounded all the time.”
Kobie winced. “There are times I wish for silence.”
“I can imagine.”
They both watched Calum and Shaelan come into the cafeteria, walking in step with the other.
“I think Calum’s mate is wonderful,” Oaklyn said it quietly, not wanting to broadcast the conversation to a room full of others with impeccable hearing.
“She is. They’re the power couple.” Kobie shrugged. “It’s how Blair and I think of them. She’s all over helping people and he’s everywhere getting things done before most of us know they need to be done.”
“I would be dead if it weren’t for Mister Dante.” She said softly.
Kobie gave her a surprised look. “Really? So you’re another one he’s helped.”
“Yes indeed.”
She nodded. “Good. I’m glad. What you and Zain are going to do is what’s going to make us succeed when we go into that party.”
Oaklyn rolled her eyes. “We just have to figure out how to act rich and blend in.”
Kobie shrugged. “Why blend in? Be a spectacle and awe everyone.”
She studied her for a moment. “That’s an option.”
Noah and Griffin walked and stopped by Calum and Shaelan.
“What’s his story.” She motioned. “Noah. He’s carrying some heavy energy.”
Kobie sighed. “Yeah. His story is a nightmare most of us wouldn’t survive. But he did, he reconnected with his mate. Without Griffin and Noah, we wouldn’t be able to go to this party and get to Aiden Tomas.”
“Really?” Oaklyn sized the two men up. “I’m glad he’s a survivor.”
The cafeteria doors at the other end flew open and Blaise ran into the room. She veered when she saw Griffin and ran in his direction.
“Cassius just radioed. A vehicle is approaching.” The room went silent, and everyone looked at her. “Two inside, one has green hair he said.” She shook her head and then started jogging out of the room.
“Oh my.” Kobie got up.
“No.” Shaelan started after Blaise.
Oaklyn got up, she didn’t know the significance of that, but everyone else in the room seemed to. She turned and saw Zain looked as confused as she felt. He made eye contact with her and motioned to the door everyone was going out. She nodded and followed to see what was going on.
They were in synch on some things, she realized as they walked toward the door. It wasn’t something she’d ever been, but it felt nice—even if it were only for a short time.
