The drive back to the house was without words. Taggart knew the mood. His sister mood was like this some times. It was the kind that smart man know to say no words. His animal agree with him. Do no thing. Say no thing. Was best this way.
He think Deva no even put van in full stop before she get out. He watched her go into the house with no looking at him.
“She’s in a mood.”
He turned to see Asher behind him. “Ja. No good mood.”
Calum walked over to stand with Asher. “You’re all right?” He looked at Taggart’s head.
Touching the cut, he nodded. “I am good.” His hand was sticky with stuff Deva put on it. He look at the house again. “Deva is no happy.”
“Yeah, I sensed a little anger.”
Taggart sighed heavy. “Deva mad at me for getting my head bashed.” It was only word he could think to use.
Calum grinned. “I don’t think you had a choice.”
“No choice. I no see the two until they smack my head.”
“There’s another one of your team in the area?”
Taggart think Calum must know all. “Efem. He come to help with the hyena problem.”
“Oh?” Calum glanced at Asher for a moment. “He’s from the clan of the ones we’ve stumbled across?”
Taggart nod even with the pain in his head. “Ja. He talk to friend in clan that hides. He say many from he own clan and other clan the same left to help bad ambassador and friends across the sea. Efem come to find.” He shrugged. “End help they give.”
Calum nodded. “Devin will be thankful for the insight. Is Efem sticking around for a while?”
Taggart took a deep breath. The pain in his head was a big one. He needed to go for a run to heal it. “He stay to help and do what need to do. No more come over the sea for some time. Too much risk now. We wait for it to be quiet and forgot again.”
“Good.” Calum looked at the house. “Unless you want Shaelan to check your head, I suggest you shift and heal it.”
“Ja. I do that.” He try to think if he should go talk to Deva before he do it.
“You might want to let her cool down first.” Asher looked at him. “We were on the call with Tripp, and he said Deva wasn’t in a good place for a few minutes during it.”
Taggart want to smile but think maybe no the thing to do. “I think she want to shoot very much. He say her girly and the look she give him for that was no good for him.”
Asher chuckled. “Next to Amari, Deva is the other woman I’d never want pissed off.”
“I don’t know—” Calum gave him a look. “Your Journee is pretty reactive too.”
Asher nod his head. “That’s true, but Journee doesn’t like guns or blades, so she’s a little less lethal.”
Taggart laughed quietly. “Is no lady that is no lethal. That is what I know.”
“True enough.” Calum smiled.
“I go run now.” He looked around. “Is okay I go alone? I be fast.”
“Yeah. Just go for a quick one to fix your head.” Calum start to walk to house.
“Is no run to fix inside my head.” Taggart grinned at Asher and start to walk up hill.
Before he could get to the top, his phone ring. Taking it from his pocket, he looked at it. It was a message from Efem that say ALL TALK. That meant a call with all of the men. When the men grab him, Efem was on his phone with—if Taggart guess right he would say Lars. Now all his men know what happen. He sighed.
The phone rang when it was still in his hand. “Ja?”
“You good, Boss?” It was Dobry.
“I am good. Little cut on my head.”
“It is no little.” Efem say in the phone.
“I should no go with Jett.” Lars was beating himself up about not being near to Taggart.
“You had to go to help. Men need to be at the barn for Alliance.” Taggart looked at the bottom of the hill by house to see Deva and Calla standing together talking.
“Is good, Lars. Taggart’s Deva save him. I have no question that she shoot the man with gun pointed to boss.” Efem chuckled.
“You tell me about his Deva, ya?” Demir ask.
“Is Taggart’s mate,” Lars answered.
Taggart closed his eyes and rub his hand over them. He was no going to tell all the men until Deva good with him. He know her cat was okay with mate, but the lady no make up mind yet. They know now.
“Is many lady on teams for Alliance.” Rosh said in a whisper voice.
“Is so?” Kevan ask.
“Ya, is so,” Niklaus say. “I see ladies and work with Wynter. Is great warrior. I think she beat Roque in arm wrestle.”
“No. Is no true.” Roque laughed. “It is?”
Taggart smiled. It had been some long time since last all his men were in same place. Maybe soon, he think, they meet for fun talks again.
“What Taggart’s Deva like?” Kevan ask.
“She is tiny lady.” Lars say.
“Ya, tiny but nice to see.” Efem say to them.
“You no be talk about my mate.” Taggart tell men. “We have mission to do, ja?”
Efem started to talk in own language and Taggart blew out a breath.
“English, Efem. We need good English to stay here when is all done.”
“Ya. Sorry. Is true we take out this Aiden man soon?” Efem ask.
Taggart nodded. “Ja, Dobry and Demir watch now so we help Alliance team take him out.” He think of Shepard Addison. “We get king at same time.”
“Is good. We come to help Alliance, Boss. I am happy how it go in this country.” Niklaus say.
“Ja. Is good to be here. We make good life for families.”
The men all talk at the same time and it hurt Taggart’s head more.
“I go now. Shift and heal head.” Taggart look again at Deva. When he back, he need to talk to his beauty and see if she still angry for his head getting in way of gun that bash him.
