Chapter 682 Chapter 682
Deva opened the door to go back out, and Terah came in.
“I have to wash the salt off. Then I will go see Willow.” She smiled at her and rushed toward the stairs.
Deva couldn’t believe they had reached them already. She looked around to see several of the others out on the deck. Going out, she saw Calum talking to a tall man. He had a clothe wrapped around his waist. She hadn’t stopped to think about the fact that they weren’t dressed in the water. Terah and Konner had worn suits, and she supposed that was for everyone else’s sake and not their modesty.
“I’ll go get the phones and things, Malik.” Konner paused by the door.
The man talking to Calum nodded. “I will wait here.” He looked around. “I have never been on the water before.” He smiled.
Konner chuckled and went inside.
Deva turned to see Taggart standing by the railing, talking to Amari and Calla. Her cat moved through her. The feelings she was having were jealousy. In all of her life, she couldn’t remember having felt that. It was silly to be jealous of them. They weren’t even the same clan. Her cat didn’t care about that part.
Before she could decide what she was doing, Tripp and Illias came out onto the deck. Amari immediately went over to her mate, and Deva blew out a breath. She didn’t need to be dealing with a jealous animal right now.
Taggart turned and looked at her. He cocked his head to the side and continued to stare at her.
“No way.” She whispered. There was no way he knew how her cat was feeling right now.
He said something to Calla and then started walking toward her. His expression told her he had questions. She bit her lip for a second. She didn’t know if she had answers for him.
Deva moved closer to the railing—further away from the others. Not that it would make a difference. Their kind had excellent hearing.
“You are okay?” He stood beside her, looking out at the water.
“I’m fine.”
He turned his head and gave her a steady look. “Ah. My cat think you cat is stressed.” His brows creased. “Is right word? Stressed?”
“Probably.” It was a better word than jealous, she thought. “She’s been a bit odd. Might be all the water.”
He smiled. “Mine no like when I jump in the water.”
“We agree there.” She gave him a hard look.
Taggart continued to look at her, his gaze moving over her face. “Our cats know. I think this is why more stress.”
She thought of playing dumb but knew neither of them would believe it. “Mine knows about us.”
“Our cats make simple, ja? No think too much, just be.”
“Too bad for them; we have much more important things to do than run off into the sunset together.” She blinked a few times, knowing that was a lame thing to say.
Taggart grinned. “Is good thing we on boat, so no running off into sunset happen.”
She smiled back. That was his way of calling her on the silly line.
Leaning down on the railing, he brought his face closer to hers. “There no mistake, Deva, you are most important to me.” His eyes held her own hostage. “I do what needed, but if is choice for me to make in our tasks, there is no question for me. The answer is you—for always.”
She stood there for a moment, looking back at him. She wanted to hug him for saying such a sweet thing. But also kick him in the shins for saying such a sweet thing. “Got it.” She whispered.
His lips twitched, but he didn’t smile. “I know is same for you, my beauty.” He leaned close enough that she could feel his breath against her cheek. “You come run to rescue Taggart after I jump in water.”
Pursing her lips, she leaned away. “I have a bad habit of saving people when they do stupid things.” She smirked and then turned away. “I’m going to talk to the man from the sea.” She walked away quickly before she kissed him. They needed to reach land soon. There were only so many places to go on this floating mansion to avoid being too close to him.
