Chapter 611 Chapter 611
Blaise looked at the control panel again and tried to remember what all the buttons were for. She glanced at the monitors and then back down. Hopefully, they always had someone to run it because it was too techy for her.
“I’m going to go hunt down Nate.” Fallan got up. “Double-check how he wants the lights to work.”
“Lights?” Griffin looked over Blaise’s shoulder at the panel.
“Yeah. The red lights we have hooked up in every room of this place,” she motioned in the air, “if there’s a breach outside or one of the rogues trip the alarm, every red light will start flashing.”
“Like a silent alarm.” Blaise nodded. That was a smart idea. She almost wanted some Tomas puppet to try it, so she could see if the security protocol all the team leaders and Raymond Hardy had set up worked as well as she hoped it would.
“I’ll be right back.” Fallan went out and closed the door. The lock clicked behind her.
“I don’t know what any of these buttons do.” Griffin went over and hovered his big hand over the panel.
Blaise snorted. “Same. Let’s make sure someone else is always in here.”
He turned around and then winked at her. “Already done. I requested four that can rotate to run this room.”
“Good.” She shook both hands out from her body. “I’m already ten steps deeper in it than I’m comfortable with.”
“You’re doing great.” He grinned at her. “I’m not in a cage. I’m with you. All the rest is background noise.”
They were locked in the surveillance room, alone. She reached over and grabbed the front of his jeans and tugged him closer. “You’re okay with staying here, right? I know we haven’t talked about it much, and I’m still shocked they asked us to do this.”
“You. They asked you. I’m just a perk.” He smiled down at her.
“Yes, you are.” She grinned back at him. “A big perk.” She rubbed her hands over his chest and wished they had time to go off somewhere private for a while.
“Behave.” He growled. “She said she’d be right back.”
“The door buzzes before it unlocks.” She didn’t know when this playful side to her had developed, but it was better than going out and killing things when ghosts haunted her.
Leaning down, he nuzzled against her mate mark, and every damn time he did that, it sent a shiver through her. Lifting his head, he kept her body against his, but she could tell by the look in his eyes that he was ducking his own demons right now. “Are you good staying here?”
His expression lightened slightly. “I feel pretty safe here.”
She glanced at the monitors. “It is solid.”
“I’ll be okay here if you have to go out and do your thing.”
“My thing?”
He nodded. “Yeah, toss knives into people and shoot them.”
Blaise chuckled. “Oh, that thing.” She bit her lip. “I have to talk to Kenzo about that, I still want to go out with the team.”
“I don’t see them stopping you.” He motioned to the screen. “I can oversee here when you’re out.” He leaned down and nipped her lip. “Just as long as it’s short trips.”
She could see the emotion in his eyes change. “Settle down. We don’t need a bear in here with all this equipment.”
“I’m good.”
The lock buzzed, and they stepped away from each other like guilty teens. Devin stuck his head in the door. “Fallan told me where to find you.” He glanced at the screens and then pointed, “Cassius needs to talk to whoever is in charge.”
Blaise looked at the screen to see one of the rogues standing outside the gate. She hadn’t seen them often, not in their animal form. She looked back at the prince. “You want some backup while you do?”
He shook his head. “I’m not in charge of the factory. You are.”
“Oh. Uh,” she looked over at Griffin; he gave her a slight nod. “Okay, I’ll make sure Leyton is on overwatch while I do.”
“Which means?” The prince gave her a blank look.
“He’s on the roof with a rifle.” Griffin supplied for him.
“Perfect.” He opened the door further. “Let’s not keep him standing out there for long.
She looked at Griffin again. “You coming?” She pointed out the door. “You can stay inside with our prince.” She stepped out the door. “You two side by side out in the open is a no-no.”
“I’ll stay here where I can see it on the monitors.”
“Okay.” He’d be safest in here.
“Are you good?” He gave her a brief appraisal.
“I’m aces, Grif. Just learning the new steps is all.”
“Eyes wide, beautiful.”
She felt her cheeks heat. “Always.”
