Chapter 577 Chapter 577
Blaise typed the last few items she was going to need if they were to become road runners and stay off all radars. Hitting send, she sent it off to a guy named Zain. Calum assured her would get all of it and probably extras too. She didn’t know where they were going to go; the list of places hadn’t been given to her yet.
Tucking her phone back in her pocket, she looked around, there were more bodies in the kitchen, but Griffin wasn’t one of them. She glanced into the other room, he wasn’t there either. Panic filled her, even though she knew he wouldn’t take off. He was too important by too many to leave her sight. Her cat rolled through her, reminding her there were other reasons too. Blaise wasn’t ready to admit that to the animal inside her. She pushed through the door and stepped out onto the deck. Griffin stood near the end, leaning on the railing. Noah was beside him.
Noah inclined his head to her as he walked down the steps, “I can’t hear this.” He said quietly, “I’ll be in the shop with Jake if I’m needed.”
She watched him walk along a narrow drive and could see the large building on the other end of it. Turning back, she walked toward Griffin, “second thoughts?” She could only hope he had.
He glanced at her, shook his head, and then looked across the yard. “More like composing my thoughts to make sense when I speak to him.” He straightened up and faced her, “Do you know I’ve always had to watch every word I said to him, so I didn’t offend him?” He tapped his hand on the side of his head, “I have so much I want to say to that sick bastard, I don’t even know where to start.”
Blaise crossed her arms over her chest, “you don’t have any problems with words; you’ll figure it out.”
He smirked, “I hope your faith in my ability to talk isn’t misplaced.”
“See, just spew some of that fancy stuff at him, and he won’t know what to say.”
Griffin smiled at her, “I’ll do that.” He rubbed his hand over his injured shoulder, “thank you, by the way, for agreeing to drive me around for an unknown amount of time, I know you’d rather be helping your team.”
She leaned back against the railing and looked over at him, “I’m helping all the teams and every clan in the Alliance by keeping you whole,” she shrugged, “sure, I’ll miss out on kicking some teeth in, but it’s a fair trade.”
He stood there for a moment, searching her face, “what did they mean by having me close to see who they find at these various sites?”
Blaise shrugged, “I have no idea. I just do what I’m told. The clan coordinator team’s office guy is rounding up all the supplies and gear we’ll need. It could be remote, or we’ll be on the scene, we won’t know until they tell us, and they’re not likely to advertise it in advance.”
He looked around, “this place is nice. All the fresh air a body could want.”
Blaise nodded, “it is.” She motioned to the road, “but there are too many bodies in this area for my taste.”
“I guess you’re not big on the city life then.”
“No. Too many buildings, people, it smells bad, and there are not enough trees.”
“Griffin,” we turned to see Blair standing at the door, “they have all the surveillance guys on standby now.”
Griffin nodded, and Blair went back inside.
Blaise huffed out a breath and moved closer, she put her hand on his chest and looked up at him. “You know him better than anyone, say whatever you need to say to get all the parts moving so we can track every last one of them.”
“And then we ride off into the sunset.” He smirked and glanced around, “sunrise.” He yawned.
“You can nap on the road. Get in there and get us some action.”
“Yes, ‘mam.” He touched the side of her face with a gentle touch. “Just think of all the time we’ll have to talk.”
Blaise hissed out a breath, “go.” She stepped back so his hand would drop away.
When she returned, she moved to the counter area, across from where Griffin had sat down. She didn’t know how he could sit there. She’d have to pace and move around if it were her making such an important phone call.
“Is everyone on the line?” Calum leaned on the table over a phone.
“They are.” Illias answered, “I have all of them muted, so they can listen and not be heard.” He chuckled, “I like that power.”
Calum shook his head, “just be ready to reroute calls when the surveillance teams start reporting back.”
“I’m on it,” Illias said.
Griffin lifted his hand, “I don’t know Aiden’s number…”
Illias snorted, “I have all the numbers. Just tell me when you pick up the phone and I’ll do the rest.”
“Okay.” Griffin looked at the other phone sitting on the table. He didn’t turn and look at anyone else, just lifted his eyes and held Blaise’s look for a moment. She nodded her head, telling him to go ahead.
It was such a sappy thing, that something like that made her feel important. He was in a room with Alpha’s and important people and yet looked to her for that last boost of confidence to make the call.
Griffin exhaled a deep breath and picked up the phone. “I have the phone.” He said quietly.
“Great. Hang on two seconds,” we could all hear the keys tapping in the background as Illias did whatever magic he did.
