Chapter 563 Chapter 563
Blaise looked at her phone and then put it back to her ear again. “That’s the plan? Why not take him to the Alliance or—” she stopped, they couldn’t do that, they still had no idea who they could or couldn’t trust. She glanced over to see Devin watching her, if she wasn’t mistaken, he looked apologetic.
“We bounced ideas around, but your place is the only one that’s completely off the grid.”
She scowled, there was a reason for that. It was her place, and she liked the privacy and simplicity of it. It was where she went when she needed to be alone and battle her demons.
“We need someone to watch him at all times, and with all the information leaks, we can’t risk taking him anywhere else right now—if Tomas gets him, it’s game over. We can’t send him anywhere else we have other, because it will freak out any that were rescued when they see him.”
Blaise dropped into the chair and looked out the window. There was no hiding the guards now, three of them were in plain sight.
“Fine, but I’ll need—”
“Your truck is on the way to you.”
She quirked an eyebrow and wondered who jacked her ride because she knew the only existing keys were in her run pack.
“Uri is bringing it. He’ll be your overwatch until you get home too, so keep that in mind when you want to drive faster than he can fly.”
The surveillance team leader was bringing her truck and was going to be her escort. It made sense, Griffin was an important key to ending all the torment.
“Don’t worry, his owl can haul ass,” Kenzo assured her.
She blew out a breath. “How did the ops go?” She’d almost forgotten about them. The snow had stopped where they were, but she didn’t know if that was the same everywhere.
He chuckled, “it got a little hairy, hitting so many with smaller teams, but all were a success. Bad guys are in pens with Raymond and—” he huffed out a breath, “I don’t have all the numbers right now, but a lot were liberated.”
She grinned, “that’s great. Sorry I missed it.” Nothing was more gratifying than freeing their kind that had been imprisoned for so many years. She glanced at Griffin. He had been too.
“I hear you had your own adventures.”
She watched Griffin nod to something Blair said and then lean across the table and tap the map. “It’s been interesting.”
“Mmm, I heard about the half-breed—”
“Griffin.” She corrected. “I think he’s done enough to warrant his name being used.”
Kenzo cleared his throat, “right. You’re right. Just keep your tranq gun handy at all times, Tripp told me how big he gets.”
“Yeah. He busted us out of a metal can.”
“If he shifts—”
“I know, boss. I don’t know if he will fully; wouldn’t he have by now?” His animal was close enough.
“Anything is possible. The research team has been gathering data, and many that were held or medicated only do partially, but being careful is never wrong.”
“Got it.” She leaned back and looked at the ceiling, “when will Uri be here?”
“I’ll check,” he chuckled, “looking forward to a few days at home.”
“Teams are heading home now?”
“While the information your—Griffin gave us is gone through. I’m told it’s a lot.” He clicked his teeth together, “I only hope it gets us close to someone in charge.”
She opened her eyes and sat forward. “We can only hope.” She looked at Griffin again, “he’s got his own hit list, boss.”
Kenzo laughed, “I have no doubt his life couldn’t have been good at all. Three hours. Uri will be there in three hours. Grab a nap, so you can get there with as few stops as possible.”
She nodded, “will do, boss.”
“I know it’s a big ask, Blaise; everyone appreciates it.”
“Don’t worry about me, boss, I’m aces.”
“Always are.” He cleared his throat, “just between you and I, the king and Raymond have been working on a new unofficial location for Alliance operations.”
“Really? That’s great. No rate and—”
“We can get down to business without all the cloak and dagger shit. Message me when you’re leaving.”
“Yup.” She hung up without waiting to see if he had any more to say. She was anything but aces right now. She had to take the most sought-after man that ever existed in their world to her private home—and do what then? It wasn’t like she had a mansion or even five rooms. She had three. A kitchen, bathroom, and main area, which was her bedroom, den, and whatever else she needed. Might as well have stayed smushed in the tin can with the man.
She glanced at him, the man that was a very large bear inside and her mate.
Her mate. She didn’t even know what to do about that mess. Currently, she was just trying to outrun it. She knew it was impossible, but still had to try. Once they were stuck in her ride alone, it would be harder to do. She couldn’t even think about being confined at her place with him. All she could hope for right now was they would find somewhere safe for him to be.
