Chapter 499 Chapter 499

Chapter 499 Chapter 499
Tripp’s cat was going crazy inside him, “cool it, I have to focus,” he whispered. He couldn’t see the Jeep yet, but he could hear it. He wasn’t taking his eyes off her until this was over. She stood there right now, her hands on her hips, the zip ties hanging from one wrist. He still wasn’t sure what she planned to do, just standing there like ‘here I am’, and it was driving him to distraction.

Taking a deep breath, he exhaled slowly and relaxed into his position. He had the dart gun in his hand, but his weapon with the real ammo was sitting beside his hand in case he needed it instead. As long as it was just one person in that vehicle, things should go according to plan. Unfortunately, experience told him things rarely came off without a hitch.

When Amari put her hands behind her back and slumped her body like she was completely without strength, he knew the driver was close enough. She walked along, dragging her foot behind her like she was injured. Tripp grinned, she was a smart one, and he was impressed. Right now, she looked like she was completely helpless, but the poor unsuspecting sap driving into their trap didn’t know that.  Even tied, she’d proven she was never helpless. He heard the vehicle come to a stop and flicked his eyes quickly toward it to check if it was more than one. He didn’t see another person in it.

“Help me,” Amari whined; the tone even made Tripp look back at her.

“How the hell did you get down here?”

Tripp followed him with the sight on the weapon, keeping it lined up with his neck with each step he took. He was a big son of a bitch, and he hoped one dart was going take him down in time.

When he reached Amari, she leaned into his body, Tripp had to bit back a snarl with the man being near her, “I don’t know how you got down here, but someone’s getting their ass kicked.” Amari slumped into him like her legs had just given out. “Shit.” The idiot leaned down to pick her up, but before he could, she launched herself, landing on his back, and wrapped her arms and legs around him. He broke her fall when they hit the ground.

Tripp was now on his knees, prepared to run down there when she rolled to her back and got the big man in a sleeper hold. Jesus, did she watch wrestling matches much? He wasn’t even sure if he could do what she had that efficiently.

The man was struggling, trying to break her hold on his body, he couldn’t get his arms out of the grip with her legs to reach the arm wrapped around his neck. Tripp stood there for a few seconds, trying to decide if he should wait it out or do something. His cat made his opinion known, the big one was probably crushing her. Without further hesitation, he shot a dart into his leg and then a second one. He kept the gun aimed at him and waited until he slumped in her arms.

Amari dropped her head back at an awkward angle and looked up at him, she didn’t look happy. Releasing him, she shoved him off her.

Tripp grabbed their bags and went down the hill, sliding most of the way.

“I had it under control.” She gave him a hard look as she came over and jerked the coat out from under his arm.

“I did it for his safety, not yours.” He went over and bent down and checked his pulse, “if he struggled too much you could have snapped his neck.”

Amari went over to the Jeep and leaned in the opened the door. “I know how to do it; I wouldn’t have killed him.”

The growl in her tone made his cat sit up and pay attention. Standing up, he picked up the bags and went over and opened the back of the Jeep, and tossed them in. “He’ll be out a long while now.” Slamming the tailgate, he looked at the man lying on the ground. He was going to be a heavy one. “Anything in there?”

She climbed into the vehicle and leaned down. “Phone and,” she held her hand out the door and rattled a key in her hand, “motel key.”  When she smiled at him, he forgot what he was going to say. That sexy smile could stop traffic he was sure of it. Amari hopped back out, “you can have a chat with him while I grab a shower.”

Tripp’s cat nudged him to speak, “uh, let’s hope we can get him in the room without being seen.”

Amari looked down at him, then grimaced, “he’s going to be heavy.”

Smirking, Tripp went over to stand by his head, “maybe next time we should ask them to climb in the backseat before we knock them out.”

She laughed and went over to his feet, “does that method work for you usually?”

Hefting him up, Tripp grunted from the weight of him, “no. Those ones up there were the easiest I’ve ever had,” they shuffled toward the Jeep. “Although this crazy blonde chick screeching at them and stabbing one of them is probably why they gave up without a fight.”

She smirked but made no comment.

Getting him in the backseat was not fun, he almost hit the ground a few times. By the time he was in, and the door closed, both of them were panting like they’d just done a five-mile sprint.

“Okay,” Tripp pulled his beanie off and jammed it into his pocket. “What’s the ownership on this say?” He looked in the driver’s door, “pretty worn if it’s a rental.”

“You think we can get information from his ownership?” She went around to the passenger side.

“Unless you want to take him out and frisk him for a wallet, we can hope.”

Amari climbed in and sat in the seat, then closed the door. “Let’s go find this motel.” She smiled at him as he climbed in. “Shower, food, then phone calls?”

Tripp closed the door and then looked over at her. Of course, she probably needed to call her family. She looked so happy right now, he wasn’t going to chance saying something to piss her off. Turning the key, he looked around them, “I should be able to get this turned around if we go up a bit further.

When they got to the motel, he was calling Kenzo and telling him to send transport for her and the heavy bastard in the backseat. The sooner he got things back to normal, the better off he was going to be. Yeah, she was cute and smart as fuck, but she was so off-limits, it wasn’t funny. Crazy blonde chick. He smirked, it was true and because he wasn’t masochistic enough, he really liked her. The last thing he needed in his life right now were attachments, especially a cute, blonde, lethal Alpha female.
