Chapter 433 Chapter 433
Noah didn’t like the way he was feeling, the unknown had him tense and edgy. They were walking into this camp without a real plan in place. McKenna said she could walk them right to the door of the house that Lindon’s followers stayed in. She said that no one else would look twice because the dead false alpha always walked strangers into the camp. Noah wanted to believe it was going to be that simple, but he didn’t. Lindon had been missing for a while now and people would have noticed that.
He exchanged a quick glance with Blair, he wasn’t feeling this simple plan either. Calum was too hard to read to know if he was buying they could just stroll in.
“Won’t his men know?” Kobie whispered, breaking the silence in the group. “I mean, they must have tried to contact him, right?”
Blaise nodded, but the expression on her face said she didn’t care one way or another.
Noah’s cat was alert, poised for trouble and as hard as he tried to calm him, the animal wasn’t falling for it. That was the last thing he needed, for him to lose control in an already tense situation.
McKenna pointed to a hill to their right. “You can sit up there and watch what’s happening.” She glanced at Emersyn and then Kobie.
“No one will notice us sitting there?” Kobie gave her mate a quick look.
“No,” McKenna adjusted the pack on her back, “I could sit there for a month, and no one ever looks there.” She turned completely and looked at Blaise, “if you’re coming down with us, you’re going to have to lose the weapons,” she motioned to the gun strapped to Blaise’s leg, “no female would ever have a weapon.”
Blaise gave her a look as if she had just slapped her in the face. She turned to Calum.
“She’s right, they won’t look too hard at us, but an armed female,” he shrugged.
Heaving out a sigh, Blaise unstrapped the gun and turned to hand it to Blair, “I want it back as soon as we’re in.”
He took it and tucked it into the pack and then put it on his back.
She scowled as she looked down the hill in the direction they’d go. “I’m keeping my knives.” She undid the other strap on her hip and then lifted her shirt and then looped the leather around her waist. Yanking her shirt down, she adjusted her jacket so you couldn’t tell they were there. “So, what’s the plan? I’m being marched in as a new breeder?”
McKenna looked her up and down, “Lindon has brought other women in to help with the kids before.”
Blaise smirked and looked down at herself, “do I look like a nanny?”
“No, but neither did they.” McKenna turned and motioned, “we can see most of it from there, I’ll point out where we’re going,” she paused and looked at Blair, “do you have a hat?”
He gave her a confused look.
“Your hair, it’s bad enough you look like him,” she glanced at Noah, “I just don’t want the others panicking when they see you.”
“Why would they panic?” Kobie looked from Blair back to her, “wasn’t he the Alpha? They’d be used to him being there.”
McKenna shook her head, “Him coming back was never for good reasons.” She looked at Emersyn for a second, “he’d bring a child or take a girl, he never just visited without a reason.” She sighed in an exasperated way, and swung the pack off her back, “I don’t think you guys are getting it.” Opening the bag, she pulled out a black toque and tossed it at Blair, “wear that, there will be less crying and freaking out.”
Blair looked at it, his expression hard as he jammed it on his head.
Noah’s heart felt like it was in his throat now. They were walking into a version of the hell he’d been freed from. Turning, he went over to Emersyn. “You stay up there,” he pointed to the hill McKenna had pointed out, “and don’t come down until I signal you.”
She looked up at him, the fear in her eyes wasn’t hard to see, he was feeling it too. She nodded. “Aspyn...”
“Don’t worry, I’ll get your little girl, Em,” Blaise said in a tone that sent a shiver down Noah’s spine.
“Okay.” Emersyn nodded again. “Be safe.” She held his look for a few seconds, before turning to the others, “all of you.”
Kobie came over and stood beside her, “we’ll be fine.” She put her hand on Emersyn’s shoulder all while giving her mate a pointed look.
“Let’s do this.” Calum motioned for McKenna to lead the way.
