Chapter 427 Chapter 427
“You two know each other?” Kobie glanced at Blair.
“We did when we were kids.” Blaise said and then shook her head, “when I heard an Emersyn was going to be on this trip, I thought, what if it’s her.” She motioned to her, “then I saw those huge emerald eyes and knew it was you.”
Emersyn put her hand over her mouth again and then nodded. “You work for the Alliance? Your family? Are they over here or still back there?”
“No, all of us are here now.” She shrugged, “we’ve been trying to get your family to come over, but they still won’t leave in case you came back. Maybe now they will.”
Emersyn made a sound of distress.
Noah’s cat didn’t like this talk at all, it was upsetting her. He cleared his throat and looked around, “if you’re going for a run, you should before it’s dark.”
Kobie nodded, “yeah, I don’t want to be standing here when it is.”
“We shouldn’t stay here too long,” Calum confirmed. He looked to Blaise, “you’ll go with them?”
She nodded, “absolutely.” She looked at Blair and then bowed her head to him briefly.
Noah breathed a quick sigh of relief; the upsetting talk of families was over for now. He watched the two women usher Emersyn toward the trees.
“Should I be bowing my head to you and Blair?” He heard her ask as they walked away.
Kobie’s chuckle was the only reply he heard.
Turning back, he saw Calum dialing his phone.
“So why did you need to rid of the girls?” Blair gave him a curious look.
Noah looked from one to the other and then at the trees. He’d wondered why he was anxious to send the women off on their own. He clenched his jaw, that Blaise woman had better keep a good watch on them.
“Hold on, Dev, let me turn down the volume and put it on speaker.” Calum’s words had Noah focused on him again.
“Sorry about the mayday message,” Devin said, “but I wasn’t sure what time you left and wanted to give Noah a heads up.”
Noah jerked back and looked at the phone. “Me?”
“Yeah, we’ve been stalling them for a long time, and they’re done waiting.”
Noah looked to see Blair had no idea what he was saying either. “Who?”
“Your family.” Devin sounded exasperated, “your mother particularly,” he cleared his throat, “she could rival my own on the scale of, you scare me.”
Noah shook his head, he vaguely remembered her, but what he did recall he thought Devin’s description was accurate.
“They’re going to be at Ed’s by the time you,” he mumbled something, “shortly after you get back.”
Noah’s knees almost gave out. “What?” He’d heard, but needed to clarify what he’d heard, “my parents are going to Ed’s? Now?” His heartbeat increased at the thought. How could he see them? How could he tell them about Carlene? He’d failed her and them.
“Noah?”
He blinked and looked at Blair, who made a point of looking at Noah’s arm.
Shaking his head, Noah realized his cat was picking up on his distress and was trying to come out again. Noah had never had issues controlling his cat like he was the last few days. “I’m fine.” He said in a quiet tone, “just…”
“Freaking out?” Blair crossed his arms and looked at him.
Noah nodded.
“They’re not angry, Noah,” Devin said, “just want to see you with their own eyes and want you to meet your siblings. The message says they’re leaving at the start of next week.”
Siblings? Noah’s chin jerked to look back at the phone. “My what?”
“You have a brother and sister you’ve never met.”
Noah’s knees gave out then made him drop to squat. Blair came over and put his hand on his shoulder. Noah nodded his head, he was fine. All of them knew it was a lie.
“Sorry to dump this on you, but I figured you’d need a few days to process before you saw them.”
“Understatement,” Blair said and leaned down. “You good?”
Noah shook his head and stood up slowly, pausing to rest his hands on his knees. He didn’t feel ill or the way he did normally, this was a genuine shock. “I have a brother and a sister.” He whispered.
Blair grinned, “I have nieces.”
Noah shrugged, yeah if anyone understood what he was feeling right now, it was Blair. “Uh, thanks, Devin.” He looked at Calum and wasn’t sure what he was thinking, “for the heads up.”
“Any other bombs you’d like to drop on us?” Calum sounded amused now.
“No, I think that’s it for now.” Devin’s tone was lighter as well, “I have more information about the ambassador issue, but it can wait until you guys get through this.”
“Oh yeah,” Blair put his hands on his hips and looked at the phone, “it’s going to be all laughs and giggles here.”
Devin did laugh at that, “I talked to Dad and Ed earlier about that clan,” he cleared his throat, “I guess it’s your clan…”
“I already have a clan,” Blair said quickly.
“Well, you need to decide what you’re doing with this one too, without an acting Alpha…”
“I know, they can’t be under the Alliance’s protection.” Blair finished.
“Let’s just get there and see what we’re looking at first.” Calum offered.
“Fuck,” Blair paced a few feet away, “my property can’t fit any more buildings without looking like a damn village.”
Calum grinned, “clan village isn’t just a coin phrase.”
Blair looked back and gave him a hard look, “you know what I mean.”
“Ed is looking into the land that runs to the East of it,” Devin said.
“He’s what?” Blair sighed, “shit.” He stepped back, his hands clasped on his head, and closed his eyes.
Noah realized that he wasn’t the only one facing hard times and trying circumstances. “Maybe they’ll all be males and Ed is hoping to balance out the excess females in his clan.”
Calum grinned when Blair opened his eyes and glared at him.
Devin chuckled. “Just get there safely and call me once you have things settled.”
“We will.” Calum glanced at the trees, “Blaise is already here.”
“Did you know she knew Emersyn as a child?” Noah had to know.
“I had no idea,” Devin said quietly.
“We’re going to have to let you go, Devin,” Calum was looking toward the trees.
Noah turned to see the women were coming back already. Emersyn was smiling and didn’t look too unsteady with her steps, so he conveyed to his cat that she was well. He, however, was still numb at the idea he had siblings he’d never met and was going to have to face his parents.
