Chapter 355 Chapter 355
For the whole ride in Tripp’s vehicle, Terah had been nervous. She sat in the back watching out the windows, afraid at any moment that someone would come after her again. That fear was the only reason she got on the helicopter with Konner. She was trusting him to keep the large thing in the air. In front of her were so many switches and things all lit up, she didn’t know how he knew what each of them was for.
He gave her something called a headset to put on and currently it was trying to squish her head, but it was better than the loud noise the machine-made. Terah didn’t know where to look, by her feet was glass, beside her as well, her stomach did funny things when she looked down to see how far in the air they were. She could feel the vibration of the machine in her chest, it felt like it was humming through her entire body. Terah couldn’t wait to feel the ground beneath her feet again.
“How are you doing?”
She turned and looked at him, he sounded like he was inside her ears with this thing on her head. “I don’t think our kind were meant to fly.”
He smirked at her, “you get used to the feeling.” Motioning to the window beside her, he pointed, “I’m going to circle around, so you can see all of the Sanctuary.”
“We are there now?” She gripped the side of her seat, trying not to show how scared she was.
“We’re coming up on it in a minute.” His gaze moved over her face for a second, before he looked back in front of them. She didn’t know what he watched, there was nothing there but air. It seemed to her they were even too high for the snow to fall up here, which was silly, it came from the sky.
Turning, she looked out the window, careful not to put her body too close to the glass. Below them, as far as she could see were trees. She liked trees; she had been surprised to find each kind tasted different. Rayne had explained it when she found her licking the bark of the many kinds at their campground, it had taken Terah a while to understand. Like there were different types of people, and shifters, each had their own scent, as the trees did.
“You’ll see one of the rivers that run onto the land shortly.”
She listened to his voice in her ears and sat straighter, looking for the river. Swimming in the river had been fun. “There is more than one?”
“There are two larger ones that run through. We use that water for our in-ground pools, to keep the water fresh.”
Turning, she looked over at him, to see he was watching the air in front of them still. “In-ground pools?”
He glanced at her and then looked down at the things in front of him. “We have a few that are in the houses and a bigger one for the young ones.”
Excitement filled her; she couldn’t wait to meet the others that were like her. She had spent so many years thinking she was the last female of her kind. To know there were more after all this time, made her want to laugh and cry at the same time, which made no sense.
“When we clear this ridge, you’ll see the lake.”
Leaning closer to the window, she looked down. The motion of the trees beneath her didn’t bother as much this time. She suspected it was because of seeing the lake she would swim in.
“The whole Sanctuary is fenced in from the point.” He turned the helicopter, making it hard for her to see this fence. “No one gets on the property without us knowing.”
She didn’t take her eyes off the land below. As the lake started to appear beneath them, her heart sped up. It was much bigger than the one at the campground. They flew over something that looked like a big swimming pool.
“That’s the fishery.” He cleared his throat, “and no you can’t swim in there.”
She grinned, even though he wouldn’t see it because she was now leaning, her face almost pressing against the cool glass. When he turned to follow the lake, she noticed several buildings below. They were close together with one large one in the middle. “How do you make all the buildings? I see no roads.”
“There are a few narrow roads in, you can’t see them because of the trees from here.”
Terah turned to see he was focusing on what he was doing and not looking at her or the area beneath them.
“My clan owns a construction company, so the building is not an issue.”
“I don’t have any money.” She hadn’t meant to say it out loud, but it was true, she had nothing that was her own. Her stomach felt like it was rolling inside her as he took the helicopter closer to the ground.
“Once we find out which clan you’re from, you may have a lot more than you think.”
He turned it as it went down. She gripped the seat tight, afraid to talk and disturb him as he did this. There were so many trees around them, that she didn’t want to distract him from getting them back onto the ground.
