Chapter 337 Chapter 337

Chapter 337 Chapter 337
Capping the bottle, he tapped the screen on his phone and brought up his office number. Reeves hardly slept, so chances of him being there already were high.  He hit dial.

“Tell me you’re on your way home.” That is how he answered the phone.

Konner grinned, “in the next day or so, why, what’s going on?”

“Lucus and Paxton pissed off Nolyn again and this time she might actually string them both up.”

Konner rubbed his hand over his brow. This wasn’t a new or occasional crisis. Lucus and Paxton were two young teens in their clan. “What did they do this time?” He looked over and watched the children running. It had been years since the boys were that size. Before he’d moved the clan to the land they were on now, both of their parents had disappeared. Lucus had been an infant and Paxton was two.  Now at fourteen and sixteen, they kept life interesting.

“They painted her door pink.” Reeves groaned, “I don’t even know where they got pink paint from or how they made pink paint.”

Konner cringed. Nolyn was in her early twenties and a child from his original clan group. Her mother had died after childbirth and her father had gone to mourn and never returned. She was a brilliant young woman and taught all the children, so upsetting her wasn’t going to end well. She was also very goth, and a pink door would definitely upset her. Konner smirked and blew out a breath, “okay, after they repaint her door black, you can tell them the docks need scrubbing.”

“Which docks?”

Konner grinned. “All of them.”  Not only did they have docks at three locations around the large lake, but they had an inland fishery that was surrounded by a complex dock and gate system to transfer fish to the lake to keep it well stocked. “Even the fishery.”

“Oh, yeah that’s going to chaff some knees.” Reeves laughed. “I remember doing that when I was about eighteen and thought I didn’t have to listen to you.”

Nodding, Konner turned to see the Prince and Princess walking along the open trail from the house. “Yes, you had a few years of rebellion after I found you.”

“And look at me now. Running the office and taking care of business while you’re away.”

“You have come a long way.” He cleared his throat, “Listen, I haven’t called Auntie yet—I’ll wait until she’s awake later, but we’re going to be adding another member to our clan.”

“What?” There was a clatter that sounded like a broken cup. “Shit, oh that burns. Hang on.”

Konner turned to see the children running toward Devin and Rayne, both smiled as they approached them. The prince and princess were doing a lot for the shifter world.

“Okay, sorry. You found someone?”

“Yes, well my team did a few weeks ago.” He looked out across the lake, “she was in rough shape so it’s going to…”

“But she’s okay, right?”

“I am just about to go and meet her, but as far as I know she’s physically recovering.”

“Jesus. Holy shit. Where did they find her?”

Konner stood up as the royal couple got closer. “She was born in captivity, Aiden Tomas had her.” He frowned; he didn’t even know if she had a last name. “I don’t have details yet, but her mother was pregnant when she was taken…”

“Oh my god.”

“Get the records out of the case in my office, carefully, and have them ready, once I have more information, I’ll text it to you and we can see if we can narrow down who’s group her mother was part of.”

“Right. I’ll uh, set them out on the table in your office,” he made a sound of annoyance, “because spilling shit on them out here would be bad.”

Konner nodded, “very bad.”  He cleared his throat and smiled back at Rayne. “I have to go. Keep this to yourself until I call Auntie.”

“Jesus, don’t wait too long, I might have a meltdown trying to keep this quiet.”

Konner laughed, “I have every confidence in you and Reeves?”

“Yeah?”

“Tell the boys I am not impressed.”

“Oh, I will definitely relay that message.”

“I’ll talk to you later.”

“Wait, Konner?”

He watched Devin squat down and talk to one of the children. They weren’t afraid of him, which made sense they saw him all the time. “Yes.”

“What’s her name? I mean, I just, does she have a name?” He could picture Reeves pacing around the office, as he did often when he got excited.

“Terah.” Konner looked out over the water again.

“Terah. Yeah, it gives me hope, you know, that there’s more of us out there still.”

Konner straightened his spine; he couldn’t get all emotional again. “There is and we’ll find them. I need to go now; the prince is taking me to meet her.”

“Holy shit. The prince. Yeah, okay. Go.” The line went quiet.

“Everything good?” Devin stopped a few feet from him.

Konner nodded, “yes, just a few of the boys in my clan are up to no good, again.”

“Teenagers?” He tucked his hands in his pockets and glanced over to where Rayne was sitting on the ground talking to a few of the young girls.

“Yes, fourteen and sixteen.”

Devin chuckled, “Oh I remember how Calum, Gage, and I were at that age.” He looked at him, “I’m surprised our parents didn’t kill us and try for something better behaved.”

Konner laughed, “they’re probably glad for it now.” He didn’t know Gage. “Calum is a very important cog in the Alliance’s wheel.”

Devin laughed, “Calum is like some kind of superstar in our world, half the time I don’t know whether to be impressed or annoyed.”

“I’ve only experienced the impressed part, myself.”

Devin nodded, “yeah, wait until you know him a few years, he gets his digs in when you least expect it.” He turned away from his mate, “Rayne’s going to stay here,” he motioned to the boat sitting out of the water at the other end of the beach. “I know you could probably swim there, but I don’t think I could keep up with you.”

Konner grinned, “I could pull the boat over.”

Devin shook his head, “as fun as that sounds, it’s kind of a kiddy ride since Terah got here and I don’t think it would portray adult prince all that well.”

Konner tucked his phone into his swim pack and did it back up. “I enjoy being over the water almost as much as in it.” He gave him a serious look, “and it would be bad to meet up with her in the water if she’s as aggressive as you say.”

Devin’s eyes went wide, “I didn’t think of that.” He shrugged, “makes sense though, I wouldn’t run up on wolves that I didn’t know.”
