Chapter 17 - Look who’s back?

KRIS:

It's been two months since I last saw Lucian. It was as if all traces of him and Valentine disappeared into thin air. I'd almost convinced myself that they never existed and his episode in my life was just a dream.

I even thought he was an angel so maybe he's gone back to wherever angels reside.

I'd gone to his house countless times but each time, the place was always locked. I'd also called but was never able to reach him.

The only indications that he was truly in my life were the silver chain with a diamond heart-shaped pendant that he gave me on my birthday which was always around my neck, the sketch of him I somehow framed that's on my nightstand, and his shirt that I always wore to bed.

Does this make me pathetic? Well maybe. But do I care? No!

My time with Lucian might have been short or even imagined but it was the best time of my life.

He might have been a bossy asshole occasionally but he cared for me like he was born to do it.

I never really appreciated it but now he was gone and my life felt colourless. Not even Paige could add the colour back in.

Somehow, Jake and I became closer. You could even call us best friends. I literally spent all my free time with him and we were really cool.

So far, he still hadn't asked about Lucian and I was grateful for that. Though he'd tried to get me to go on dates with him, I wasn't just interested.

It was Friday and I was at school attending the last class of the day and sincerely, I was counting the minutes till I'll be out of the damn classroom.

Thoughts of taking a nap crossed my mind but I wouldn't want the closing bell to wake me so I decided against it.

It was an English class and I was trying hard to listen to the teacher's rambling.

Yeah... that's what it was because I couldn't get my head around what she was explaining.

I checked the wristwatch on my hand to know how long I'll endure the intense boredom but I was disappointed. She still had up to thirty minutes.

Deciding I could no longer keep up, I dropped my head to the desk and as expected, sleep gladly embraced me.

The sound of the closing bell woke me from my slumber. Raising my head, I rubbed my sleepy eyes. I looked around to see students scampering to get out of the class. Not ready to join them, I waited till they were all out before I trudged out.

Jake was taking me home. He'd been driving me to and from school since he noticed I'd been coming alone.

He should be waiting for me already. Or so I thought.

Rushing outside, I looked across the parking lot in search of Jake's Mustang. My eyes scanned everywhere till they landed on someone.

Soul searching silver eyes stared back at me.

I didn't need to take him in. But, he was wearing black ripped jeans, a black v-neck shirt and a black leather jacket. For someone that had been missing, he looked really good with strands of his jet-black hair falling on his face. He was resting on the hood of a black Bugatti.

I'd never actually seen him with that car. But then fuck him.

The intensity of his stare made my heart hammer.

Only he could do that to me.

The first thing on my mind was to run across the driveway and jump on him. I was almost going to execute that but I stopped myself.

He doesn't deserve my warm welcome. I told myself.

He fucking stood me up on our date night and made me sick with worry for two months. He cut all means of contacting him away and here he is staring at me like he did nothing wrong. I mentally raged on.

Deciding to ignore him, I started walking towards Jake's car.

LUCIAN:

The moment she laid eyes on me, I knew what was coming.

Anger.

First, her eyes lit up with happiness then it slowly died down to anger. Just as expected.

I didn't mean to abandon her but then, when the bastard that brought you to the world decided to go rest in hell at such an unfortunate time, there is nothing you can do about it especially when he's left a whole lot of responsibilities behind.

Not that I was complaining. He got what he deserved.

My dad had been a bastard since I was born. It only began to sink in when I lost the only person that loved me dearly.

Growing up with him, my cheerful demeanor faded away and his cold one took over. The only difference between us was that I cared about those I love.

Still watching her, she made her way towards me but then, she abruptly turned and started walking towards Jake's car.

I knew he was with her the whole time I was gone. I would never leave her with him unprotected. So I had men watch her every move though she wasn't aware.

Still watching her, she was halfway across the parking lot before I got to her and lifted her to my shoulders. She yelped in surprise.

Led by her anger, she tried struggling with me but after realizing it was useless, she stopped.

Getting to my car, I dropped her on the hood and caged her there with my arms wrapped tightly around her waist.

She was so furious she tried unleashing it on me but I slammed my lips to hers.

I know, I'm a bastard and I was only fueling her anger but I didn't really care.

I missed her sassy mouth.

She gave in and kissed me back but she suddenly pulled away as expected and I let her.

"You can't just walk back into my life and act like everything is alright. You fucking abandoned me.” She yelled in anger.

"I missed you.” That was all I could say. I wasn't about to tell her I lost my dad. That will be too much information.

"Good for you. I don't miss you.” She rolled her cute eyes and turned away from me.

"Look me in the eye and tell me that again.” I brought her face to look into my eyes.

"I…I …" her eyes widened, cheeks reddening as she stammered.

"That's what I thought.” I smirked.

"I hate you.” She muttered looking away from me.

"No. You don't.” I whispered in her ear.

Before she could understand what was happening, I lifted her from the hood and Carried her to the passenger seat. I strapped on her seat belt amidst her struggles before jogging around to get in.

I got into the car and stared at her. She was fuming with anger.

"Lucian let…"

She knows not to call me that but she's decided to be stubborn.

I placed a hand under her chin firmly and seared my lips to hers, kissing her hard till she moaned before I let go.

Her face was flushed as she turned to look outside the window.

The drive was silent till she noticed I wasn't going to her place.

"Where are you taking me? Did you hit your head somewhere, making you forget the way to my place?” She asked without looking at me.

"You're coming home with me.”

Her head snapped to my direction so fast that I almost thought she snapped her neck.

"You can't be serious. Stop the car.”

"If I don't, what are you gonna do?” I knew she was minutes away from exploding but I loved pulling her strings.

Her shoulders slumped in defeat but her face set into a defiant look.

Getting home, I got out of the car, walked over to her side and opened the door for her. She refused to step out.

Come on babe. You know this won't stop me.

I rolled my eyes before undoing her seat belt and lifting her in my arms. I smacked her ass and she hit my back with her small fists making me chuckle. It didn't deter my movements.

I carried her and walked briskly into the house. Climbing the stairs, I got to my room and dropped her at the foot of the bed before proceeding to lock the door.

Turning to face her, I saw her staring at me with wide eyes and mouth hanging open.

I smirked, walking towards her. Trying to get away from me, she moved backwards but fell on the bed.

I got to her in no time and lifted her from the bed with arms around her waist. She instinctively wrapped her legs around me.

"Will you forgive me?" I asked, nuzzling her neck.

"You haven't exactly said you were sorry.” She wrapped her arms around my neck and stared at me as if challenging me.

"You'll be the death of me.” I growled but she only rolled her eyes.

"I…I'm….” I exhaled. "I'm sorry I left you hanging.”

The words sounded so strange coming from me. Until that moment, I'd only said those words to one person since I was born.

My mom.

"Is that all you have to say?” She glared at me.

Argh...

"Baby, it won't happen again.” I growled.

"Okay. I'll take that for now.”

What the fuck does she mean by for now?

I stared at her emotionlessly.

"Angel, you need to know I'm mad at you. You made me so worried. I was at the brink of believing you never existed.”

I chuckled at that, while wondering what else she conjured in her silly head.

I leaned in to kiss her, whispering against her lips, "I'm never leaving you again."
