Chapter 20

VANESSA

My heart just sank in an ocean of warmth. At the end of the day he was right. I was expecting Alec to jump to my proposal, but I can't change who he is. He is a young wolf, and our mind sets are different. I don't think I can accept him as my king, so I am going back to my times and finding someone.

"Thank you for your honesty, and you are correct. I value that. I need to protect my kingdom, and if my mate is so stuck in his time. I think I need to find a willing partner. I will take your request to walk me to my room Blake" He had stood up, and taken Drew out of my hands, and gave me a hand so I could stand up.

"Do you think I am being unreasonable?" I turned to him, trying to find the answer before he said anything.

"My Queen told me. Do you feel like you are?" I sighed trying to find the answer to his questions.

"My heart aches as he is my mate, but I don't have a choice. No one can take my spot, as we will all be doomed. My son is the rightful heir to the throne. But even if my heart wants him, my mind tells me he is wrong for me. His heart lays within me, but not within my people. We have war coming, and I am fighting the wrong war. I can't lose anyone due to lust."

"It seems as if you have your answer, you need to let him go" He moved his arm out, allowing me to lead the way. He was right, and I think I was too blinded by the fact that I wanted a mate bond, to feel it. Yet, it is not right for either of us. We continued to walk back.

"My Queen if I may, I’d like to offer myself to be your king." I stopped in my tracks, and I looked at him. He was dead serious.

"Why do you think you're worthy to rule a kingdom, lord?"

"I am a leader who believes in my people and makes sure they live fearlessly. I am someone who wants to get their hands dirty and do my own dishes. Vanessa, I can give you the kind of love you desire, and fight with you. Not against you" Was being with me that much of a business ordeal.

"Where is your mate?"

"She died in the human war, however had to be rejected due to her status." Great, I always hated when those did that. It was too soon to think about it all, but it was usually the father’s job.

"There are proper procedures in order to be considered. Jump through those hoops as the new age says" He couldn't help but laugh.

"As you wish, but I hope you consider" I walked over to him and rested my hand on his cheek. I needed some space with my son before the choice was made. So, I planned to do no work for the next 5 days.

"We shall see my lord." He smiled towards me, and maybe it would be a good king.

"My lord, I need you to alert my Beta and advisor that I shall now be bothering me for a while." He kissed my hand still placed on my cheek before he removed it. Nodded and walked into my building. I followed him as he laid Drew down on my bed.

"Is there anything I can do for you before I depart my queen? I shook my head, as he bowed and exited the room. I watched as he exited. Okay hormones need to calm down, it's not helping my state.

"Alright Drew, I need you to learn how to dodge" He looked at me panicking.

"I am not going to be rough with you, just remember that you can use your wolf instincts. Close your eyes. I want you to think about your surroundings. Feel the trees and their movements. Listen to the birds. So, when an attack comes, you know which directions" I studied his posture, he was sort of ready.

"Mommy, I can't do it. I can't focus." He looked at me scared.

"Do it again, I won't hurt you. But not everyone is going to be that nice. They want to hurt you. Think about me if someone was attacking me." I saw his eyes turn red, and that showed me I was his motivation. He nodded, indicating he was ready.

I had stroked my hand to his feet, and he jumped up, swiping at my face. I went to tackle his body; he swiftly moved to the side and used his feet to kick me in the throat.

"That was amazing, my sweet angel. I am so proud of you." He jumped in happiness and darted his way to me. He hugged me. He was stronger, and he will only get stronger.

"Vanessa Steele, you did not request for suitors to come and ask for your hand in marriage. You better be joking" My father’s voice had frightened me. Great, it has to be this tall. I turned to face him.

"Father, I need a king. Since my mate won't step up without going on dates and trying to find a connection. I need someone to step up" Regardless of my position. He was my dad.

"This is not how it's supposed to be done, as you made a law that forbids it unless your mate is dead or rejected. Is that what you're planning on doing?" I rolled my eyes at him but didn't stop me from catching wondering eyes from behind a tree. Well he was going to find out eventually.

"I always follow the law's father, but it is your position to find the best suitor." I crossed my arms holding Drew close to me. I knew he didn't agree with me, but it was the only way.

"You've given me until my mark vanishes, and it's almost gone. So, go do it, and find me the best suitors." He had taken a deep breath.

"Are you sure this is what you want?" I hesitated, then I nodded "Alright, well there's been a few so far. But Blake is the only one I trust to take care of you and Drew. But I have to do everything fair. The questioning, the fighting, the pain tolerance. I will post it today." I nodded my head, as my father had walked away. I can still sense Alec, and he wasn't mad; he was disappointed. He wasn't going to approach, but I whispered knowing he was listening.

"I'm giving you more time to make your choice, but I am done fighting for you. If you're serious, you will fight for me.

ALPHA STEELE

As war was nearing, I knew everything had to be put back in order. I was in the war room, designing new plans to bring to the army.

"Alpha Steele, may I have a word with you." I had turned around to see Lord Blake, and he presented his arm to me.

"Blake, we are way past pleasantries. What can I do for you?" He walked up to me, with his back straight. He had on respectable clothing. He even bowed to me. It must be serious if he is doing this.

"Alpha Steele, I would like to make it known I want to be Queen Vanessa's King. I want to be Prince Drew's father figure if you'll have me in the trails to be deserving." I was shocked to hear his proposal. She had a mate, so I don't know why he was offering.

"Lord Blake, my daughter already has a mate." There had to be a reason why he was asking.

"She informed me that she was going to search elsewhere, as her mate doesn't want to be put right away. She has no time to spare, and I know you can trust I can take care of them" This was shocking news to me. She took a few days off already, so it was time for us to have a chat.

"Blake, thank you for coming to see me. I wasn't informed of trails, as I will speak to Vanessa. If what you're saying is true, just know you're top of my list." I gave him a smile, as he gave me an arm shake, and hugged me. He had exited, and now my mind was wondering. Everything was about what the kingdom needs, and not about her happiness. I remember the day my mate told me about an abandoned human. I told her she wouldn't survive in our world, but when she told me that she had the little girl. She placed her in my arms, I knew that she was meant to be mine. She had brown skin, hazel eyes that looked deep into your soul, and when she smiled at me the second, I held her. It was game over.

I watched her grow, and even before she became immortal, she had this fight in her. She was determined. She was different, and even when the other pups wanted nothing to do with her. I remember the exact words she told me.

"Don't worry daddy, one day they will be begging me to show them mercy when I take the throne"

She wasn't just any human girl; she was thee girl. And boy oh boy once she turned, she was right. But one thing that's always been her biggest flaw, is the hidden grudges. They cause her to think irrationally. This was one, as she didn't get her way. She jumped ship. Yet when her mind is set, it is set. After speaking with her, I couldn't talk her out of it. She is a grown adult; she needs to be able to make her own choices. I just hope that her choices don't get her killed. Blood will get spread soon.

ALEC

I watched her walk away, and I didn't chase after her. I am tired of trying to fit into her world when she makes no effort to try to join mine. All I wanted was just something that told me she was serious about me. If she wants to reject me, then so be it. I will no longer fight for something that she obviously doesn't want. I went into the old tavern to have a drink. This time I was up to finding something that distracts me. I looked around at all the single women, even rejected.

"What can I get you to drink Alpha?" The wench had come over with a pad, with nothing for the imagination.

"Whiskey on the rocks please?" She wrote it down before walking away. She was blonde, kind of short which isn't all that bad. But I like to be able to bend someone down and not hurt my knees in the process. She didn't have crazy curves, but she will. She returned back with my drink.

"Is there anything else I can get for you?'

Next thing you know we were inside my room, and our lips had connected. She was completely submissive, which wasn't exciting, but it'll do. She yanked my shirt over my head, and I let her. It wasn't long before our clothes were off. I don't do foreplay to those I just met. I grabbed her by the hair and bent her on her fours. She purred to the aggressiveness.
