Chapter 82

A shiver moved through him. Wes set his fork down and stared at his plate. He blinked and then looked across the table at Leland. His expression told Wes that he was just as bewildered.

“What did you do, Aiysha?”

Wes looked at Mitch and then slowly at the woman he had hoped never to see again after her ill attempt to sway him to a darker magic eight years ago.

“Shoot. Looks like the girls figured it out.” Aiysha shrugged. “It was fun while it lasted. “She laughed as she pushed her chair back from the table and stood up. “I’ll let you gentlemen take care of the bill. Tata.” She smiled and then walked away.

Wes looked at Leland. “How the…”

“Oh, I think we’re in big trouble.”

He looked at Mitch, who was looking at his phone.

“What is it?” Leland patted his pockets.

Mitch turned the phone around. It was an emoji of a fist. “Kat sent this about seven hours ago.”

Wes’ eyes widened as he pulled out his phone and looked at the time. “I was supposed to have dinner with Ann tonight.”

“And—” Leland glanced at his phone. “—we were supposed to help the ladies do some workings outdoors.” He tapped the screen and then put the phone against his ear. Mitch did the same. Wes looked from one to the other. No one was speaking.

“Voicemail,” Lee said in a low tone.

Wes felt his pockets for keys. “How did we get here?” He stood up.

Leland got up and pulled out his wallet and dropped a bunch of bills on the table.

“I feel sick in my heart.” Mitch got up. “I need to go grab the supplies from my place.”

“And go where with them?” Leland pulled keys out of his pocket.

“To the warehouse.” Mitch cringed. “If they’re not there, then the park.”

Wes nodded. “Good. Yes.” He motioned to the door. “Let’s go find one of our cars.” His head was pounding almost as hard as his heart was.

“What did she do to us?” Mitch was hurrying toward the door.

“I can’t be certain, but I have the vague memory of ignoring Teegan all day,” Leland said quietly.

“How do we know they’re together?” Mitch held the door open.

Wes snorted. “All three of us came out of it at once.” He stepped outside and sucked in a deep breath of cool night air.

“We are in so much trouble,” Mitch mumbled.

Wes looked at the cars lining the street and didn’t see any he recognized.

“There’s mine.” Mitch rushed in that direction.

“Now I know we were under some spell.” Leland followed him. “We rode here with Mitch.”

Wes caught up. “Let’s just go get the things he wants and go find them.”

Leland pulled his phone out again and looked at it and then shook his head and put it back in his pocket. “This misstep warrants in-person groveling.”

Mitch went around to the driver’s door. “You think we’ll have to grovel?”

Wes sighed. “If we’re lucky, that’s all we’ll have to do.”

“Yes.” Leland opened the passenger’s door. “We’re supposed to be the teachers.”

Mitch closed the door and looked at them. “We left them alone in this.”

“Not by choice.” Wes got in and yanked the seatbelt across his body.

“Let’s hope they’re feeling reasonable.” Leland got in and closed the door.

“Reasonable.” Wes cringed. Somehow that word didn’t go with how he was picturing Ann right now. If he didn’t have to plead for forgiveness, he’d be hunting Aiysha down right now. Tonight was finally his chance to be close to Ann, and his evil witch ex had screwed it up. He was trying not to panic, but it was hard. What if they’d done this to them so they could do something to the women?

“They better be all right,” Leland said in a low tone.

“The gloves come off if they’re not,” Mitch swore softly and sped up.

Wes pulled out his phone. “I’m going to message Brother Kale and have him on standby.”

“Better have an ambulance on standby too. If anything happened to Teegan.” Leland glanced back at him. “They’re going to need one.” He turned and looked out the window.

Wes nodded but focused on typing. They didn’t know that Ann already knew about her power, at least, they better not. Who knew what information they’d shared with Aiysha. He clamped his teeth together. Ann would take care of the other two, that much he did know.
