Chapter 120 Disown Me.

Chapter 120 Disown Me.
Asher's POV

“Over? We're… over?” Roman asked, his voice so sad that it broke my heart.

“No, silly.” I muttered after a moment of silence, glancing up at the ceiling. “I meant my career. It's over.”

I didn't wait for him to say another word as I walked out of the room, wiping my tears gently. I didn't know where I was going, but I just kept walking.

I needed to be away from here. To be away from everything.

But then I glanced up to see that I had walked right to my father's office. I hesitated for a second and then raised my hand to knock.

After seconds of debating whether I should or not, I knocked gently on the door, my heart pounding harshly in my chest.

Was this the right choice?

I turned to leave but then stopped in my tracks when the door pulled open.

He was my father anyway. What was there to fear?

“You're finally back.” Dad said as he glanced at me with raised brows and I hung my head.

“I didn't mean to bother.” I muttered as I turned to leave but he stopped me, a frown on his face when he noticed my expression.

“Were you crying?” He asked and I shook my head immediately. “Get inside. What happened?”

It was weird to see him act as if he cared, but I walked in anyway and leaned against the wall, my gaze still on the ground.

“Talk. What happened? What did Roman do to you?” He repeated as he sat behind his desk and I sighed.

“Roman didn't do anything to me. I just…” I paused for a second and then sighed. “I wanted to ask for your help.”

“My help? When have you ever asked for my help?” He asked in disbelief and I rolled my eyes.

“Isn't that enough to tell you that I'm desperate?” I whispered in despair, sighing when he cleared his throat.

“Go on.”

“With the help of Mom— I mean Roman's mom— Roman and I got drafted to the Seattle Kraken.” I started and his eyes widened.

“I knew you both were faking that fight—”

“That's not what's important, Dad.” I cut him off and he raised his brow at me.

“What else could be more important? You're not joining that team with Roman. I already have you signed with a different team. You should get ready.” He replied and my heart literally sank into my chest.

“You already had me signed to the NHL?” I asked in disbelief and he scoffed. “When? Why didn't you tell me?”

“Because you were hell-bent on not listening to Kieran.”

“Kieran was flirting with me and trying to separate Roman and me! How was I supposed to know he meant something so important?” I asked in desperation, wanting to pull at my hair because of this new information.

I ruined everything. Everything…

“Roman is no good for you anyway. I should have had him expelled when I had the chance. He doesn't deserve you.” Dad grunted and I scoffed in disbelief.

“And Sophia was good for you? Sophia deserved you?” I asked in anger, unable to stop myself and I watched as his eyes widened in shock.

“What did you just say?”

“You heard me right, Dad. I know about you and Sophia. I've also known.” I whispered as I leaned against the wall again and he stood up at once.

“Don't tell me Roman told you? That idiot—”

“Don't.” I cut him off with a scoff. “I've always known, Dad. Always. I found out before Roman did. Before mom did. Her earrings in your office? Her scent? And that day at the jewellery store… I saw you both kissing “ I confessed, since there was nothing else to hide and he stumbled back in shock.

“You all found pleasure in tricking me?” He asked, staring at me in disbelief and I couldn't help but snort.

“Trick you? You think it's something to be proud of? That my dad was cheating on my stepmom with her daughter? That you stood and watched while she nearly destroyed Roman's life?”

I stared at the man I called Dad, unable to believe he could utter such words shamelessly.

“I tried to stay respectful to you, you know.” I whispered with a soft, bitter chuckle. “Even when I knew what you did, I never complained. Not when you asked me to jump off a cliff. Not when you treated me like I wasn't your son.”

“None of this matters anymore.” He finally said after a moment of silence and I scoffed.

It didn't matter anymore? What about the betrayal I felt? The hurt? It didn't matter anymore?

“All that matters is that I'm doing the best I can as your father. And you will appreciate that.” He added with a slight cough as he placed a document in front of me.

“Your best was never actually enough, dad.” I whispered and his face twisted. “And maybe it's about time I stop caring.”

“What do you mean? I literally got you drafted!”

“Well, I've been blacklisted. I can't be the son you'll be proud of. So while you can, disown me. Deny ever knowing me.”

I made my way towards the door when his words stopped me in my tracks.

“Who would dare blacklist my son? What was your offence? Who dares?” He asked in anger and I chuckled softly in amusement.

“Well, your rival.” I mumbled softly with a soft sigh. “I was a fool, wasn't I…?”

Without waiting for him to say anything else, I walked out of his office. I felt quite lighter after talking to him, maybe because I finally got to let out everything in my heart.

All that was left to do was to cry. But I didn't know if I wanted to cry in Roman's arms or into my pillow.

Which would hurt less? The man that was leaving me soon or the fabric that would become my new companion?

I kept walking down the hallway and was about to turn down the corner when I noticed two figures standing there, arguing.

My eyes widened when I recognized them at once. Ethan and… Keith?

“You promised me that if I told you everything, you would let Asher be!” Ethan said, a look of worry on his face and my brows furrowed.

What was going on?

“Asher was being too much. It's his fault for getting himself into the mess he's in.” Keith replied with a nonchalance that had my heart pounding harshly.

“But you promised me! I stalked my own best friend and told you everything that was going on between them because you promised! You promised to leave them alone and also get me to the NHL! How could you blacklist him?”

My head rang as realization dawned upon me and I staggered back in horror.

My own best friend… sold me out…?
